INTRODUCTION
Personal and professional development is a process of developing our self in our role for
accomplishing goals (Pugh and Broome, 2020). This present study is going to discuss reasons as
why we need to be an effective student in business management in higher education and how it
can help us out in accomplishing academic goals. It will further discuss importance of
communication, time management, team working and other skills that have been learned in
module in personal development and career growth. SWOT analysis tool, Gibbs reflective model
and 5 trait personality tool plays a vital role in personal development and learning.

allow for summarise for education, skills, and also experience about the successfully sell for
ability to working as potential employee. Along with this CV employers are usually ask for
making the cover letter. CV is important because this document which gives the chance of show
prospective employer and best for getting (Kohan and et.al., 2020). This can also help for skills,
experience and shows about the rights person for the job. This also led them for working and
make sure for having the employers so it should be essential to get it right.

provide evidence of education and experiences. This might be also likely for primarily about the

REFLECTIVE STATEMENT
Reflection on being an effective student of business management in higher education
I want to share my feelings and my views on effectiveness of student of business management in
higher education and ways in which it can help us out in improving learning and becoming
successful.
Description: I want to explain some reasons as why students need to study in business
management and in this context, I can say that business management degree can provide
academic knowledge as well as skills by which we can take advantages of global career
opportunities. Some other advantages of being an effectiveness student of business management
is: improved skills. It helps us out in improving management skills that we all require in the
future while searching for an effective employment opportunity. This business management
course increased number of my skills such as: communication, critical thinking, problem solving,
project management and presentation (Byun and et.al., 2018). I believe that all these skills would
help me out in the future while performing my job roles.
Feelings: In addition, I want to share my personal views or feelings that I have regarding
business management. I feel that by being an effective student of business management, we can
improve employability. It gives us number of employment opportunities and we can get job in
field of human resource, management, retail, fiancé, consultancy and marketing. In addition, I
also believe that business management degree helps us out to gain in depth knowledge and
understanding of core elements of business management. It gives the great introduction into the

world of business. It let us know about market trends that is beneficial for performing our given
job roles in the future.
Evaluation: On the basis of self-evaluation and personal experience by learning as a
student of business management, I can say that business management degree gives use
professional experience. Along with professional experience, it develops our personality that is
beneficial in our personal life as well. By being as a business management student, I learned
importance of working in a team, an ability to adapt changing needs and factors. I came to know
how important it is for all of us to adapt changes and working accordingly (Farashahi and
Tajeddin, 2018). Covid-19 was the main example that has changed our ways of living and
performing functions but in this business management degree, we are taught some better ways of
performing functions in adverse situations and ways by which we can be calm. Overall, I can say
that this degree is important and vital for us.
Analysis: On the basis of my personal experience, I can say that becoming an effective
student in business management is important but we have to strive hard for this. Initially, I was
facing some problems due to lack of some skills. I was lacking in time management, problem
solving and both these skills frustrated me to the great extent. But peers support and tutors’
guidance made me able in solving these problems and becoming a successful student and
accomplishing academic goals.
Conclusion: I can say that on the basis of above discussion and personal experience that
being an effective student of business management in higher education change us personally and
professionally. These changes lead us growth and development and help us out in accomplishing
our goals.
Action plan: As, I discussed that I am lacking behind in time management and by
developing professional development plan, I can improve this skill. For improving this skill, I
will prepare a time table by prioritizing tasks and my tutors told me that procrastination is main
barrier to this ability (Sahni, 2019). So, I will focus on decreasing this and by doing so, I can
increase this skill within 20-25 days.
So, on the basis of above discussion, I can clearly say that being an effective business
management study in higher study is important for our personal and professional development.

How acquisition of skills through completion of module would help in achieving personal and
future success
While studying in university, we learn number of new things and skills that is beneficial for us.
All those skills that we acquire while completing module and in higher education make us able in
accomplishing our goals and personal success. I want to discuss some skills that I acquire while
completing this module include:
Communication: Communication is one of the common and important skill that I have
learned by completing this module. I was given an opportunity to participate in seminars and
group discussion. Initially, it was difficult for me to talk in front of people but my tutors
encouraged me and it helped me out in improving this skill. When I participated in seminars and
gave speech on allotted topic then it boosted my confidence (Stepanova, Rozhkova and Grishina,
2020). So, in this regard, I can say that while studying and completing module, we learn number
of skills that can help us out in our future.
Problem solving: It is other main skill that also plays a vital role as this skill make us
able in completing our tasks without getting affected. There are number of factors that might
create barriers and we need to select one option among 2-3 options. Poor decision making skill
can create barriers in accomplishing goals. For becoming successful, we need to solve critical
problems and continuing working. This skill I learned when I was allotted a group task. While
working in a team, I learned some better ways of solving problem and at that time I found that
for solving problem and deciding the best option, we need to analyse every option in both
positive and negative manner. So, on this basis, I can say that this skill is linked with critical
analysis. I also believe that this skill would help me out in the future while working my job role.
Flexibility: It is an ability to adapt situations or changing needs. We live in an
environment where number of changes occur and we all need to adapt all these changes by which
we can continue our tasks without getting affected. One of the best example of changing
situation is: Covid-19 (Maxwell and Armellini, 2019). I can say that this situation changed every
field and education was the sector that also get affected. Initially, it became difficult for us to
adapt new ways of studying virtually but peers support and training helped us out in learning
better ways of studying virtually. With this changing situation, I came to know importance of
adapting changes and finding out better ways of performing functions as per the changing
situations.

Team working: It is an ability of working in a group or team. Some students prefer
working individually but it is important for all of us to have this skill. We were allotted some
group tasks and while working in a team, I found that team working gives us number of
advantages. When we work in a team then it increases our skills and knowledge to the great
extent. In an effective team, different perspective and behaviour of people work and they bring
innovative ideas of performing functions and solving problem. It helped me out in completing
group task in a successful manner (Oberle and Schonert-Reichl, 2017).
Presentation: At academic level, we all learn the best way of presenting our views. This
presentation skill plays a vital role as it can make us able in interacting and negotiating with
customers and stakeholders in the future while performing job roles. From this module, I learned
some better ways of presenting our topic and for that I was taught that for presentation, we need
to make some notes by making points on special an important topic. This strategy improved this
skill and I believe that this skill will develop me personally as it will improve my personality.
On the basis of above discussed skills, I can say that all these skills will make me able in
completing given tasks in the future and becoming a successful profession.
Academic and personal development models and its effectiveness in improving learning
There are number of models that can help us out in developing at academic level and
personally. We all need to make use of such models as they tell us better ways by which we can
improve skills and knowledge. One of the best academic and personal development model that
helped me out in becoming successful in higher education include:
Self-evaluation or SWOT: SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
This model encourages for discussing our personal strengths or skills that we possess. On the
basis of my experience, I found some skills that are my strengths such as:
Strengths
 I found that I am good in team working skill.
 An ability to adapt changing situations and working accordingly is my other strength.
 An ability to interact with different behavior of people in an effective manner shows my
communication skill and personal strength (Prokofyeva and et.al., 2020).
Weaknesses
 Difficulties in completing more than 2-3 tasks at the same time is my weakness.
 I found that I am lacking behind in decision making or problem solving skills.

Opportunities
 I have gained opportunity of getting an award of an effective business management
student.
 I can take advantages of getting an employment opportunity in my desired field in the
future on the basis of identified strengths.
Threats
 On the basis of weaknesses, I can say that poor time management can make me depressed
and barriers in accomplishing academic goals.
 Threat of increasing competition in academic sector is other main threat.
On the basis of above discussed all elements of SWOT analysis model, I can say that it can give
us a clear picture of where we stand. As a student, we can identify all those areas where we are
lacking behind and on the basis of identified areas, we can develop actions for accomplishing
goals. It is an invaluable tool for performing both internal as well as external strategic analysis.
In addition, I can say that it is one of the best model and evaluation strategy where we need to
pick out our weaknesses to overcome and increasing plus point. By identifying our personal
characteristics, we may find easier in achieving as well as expanding learning objectives within
workplace (Topor, D.R. and et.al., 2018). There are few limitations of this model such as: it does
not help us out in prioritizing issues as it just let us know about those areas where we are lacking
behind and where we are good. It does not provide solutions for decreasing weaknesses as we
need to develop strategies as per identified weaknesses. Overall, I can say that this model can
develop us as a student personally and professionally as well if we have knowledge about
making use of this model and developing action plan for decreasing weaknesses.
Effectiveness of the personal growth model as academic model for improving learning
The mind elevator’s personal growth model known as an effective academic model that can help
us out in improving learning. There are 5 main steps of this model that can be used or analyzed
for personal development such as:
Belief: It is stated that for improving our self personally, we all need to change our
beliefs and for this, we need to: change ways in which we perform functions, the way we think
and the way we perceive efforts. We also need to change all things that we believe are
instrumental as well as values that we adopt. Overall, I can say that this step encourages us to

think positively and focusing on only those things that are important for us for becoming
successful.
Plan: After changing beliefs and mindset, we need to make an effective plan by which
we can perform our functions as per the new mindset (Weigold and et.al., 2021). We all require
making an effective plan by which we can accomplish our goals. For this purpose, as a student,
we are encouraged to set goals, organizing information, tasks and time accordingly. We also
need to formulate strategies that can help us out in personal development and accomplishment of
academic goals.
Action: After making an effective plan, we require executing strategies. It is known as
one of the difficult task that we all need to do. After making plan, with peers and tutors support,
we need to execute plan in a systematic manner. For better execution, we also need to develop
habits that is beneficial for us. Overall, I can say that this model gives a systematic step that we
need to follow for personal development and by completing this step, we can measure our
effectiveness.
Result: Results can come in many form as it relies on the nature of our plan and actions.
some common forms in which we can get our results on the basis of executed strategies and
actions include: word product, improved score in education, academic results that shows
difference and others (Chun and et.al., 2021). Academic results are the best way of knowing our
development and growth. On the basis of difference and academic result, we can identify those
areas in which we need to make improvements. Along with this, we can get rewards from tutors.
Appreciation is also the best form of outcome or result that boost our confidence and let us know
about our development and growth.
Review
While this can examine that after receiving the result, this should be conducted within the
review to trigger about the growth model again. While having such things this might be essential
for working and improving many more concepts for which the evaluating and tracking about the
progress. Along with this also working assessing about the action what have been leading for
making the goals and objective. While this might play the important for re-designing to help each
other for achieving the goals faster. This could helpful for the academic and many other proper
submission for which the improvement and confidence that could be created. While having such

things this could helpful for the growth and development for which the purpose of the results ot
outcomes that can be created more better.
Overall, I can say that by performing all steps in a systematic manner, I can develop
myself personally and professionally.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it had been concluded that, business management in higher
education that can work and manage them for working within the growth and development.
Effectiveness of the personal growth and make sure for having some more estimated and
working within them for some better effective manner. While having such things the personal
model growth plan which help the academic for improving them for working and essential
concepts that could be outcomes.
