Discuss: how are you going to overcome your weaknesses and minimise the threats?
(approx 100 words)
Event planning is a thriving industry in the UK. A large number of young professionals are entering this
industry due to its immense scope. However, there are certain weaknesses which may impact on my
performance as an event manager. I lack experience and have little knowledge of the industry. In order to
overcome this weakness I will participate in different industrial events and industrial training. Currently, there
is lot of competition in the event management industry. Therefore, it is important to stand out from the crowd
to gain a good job after the course. I will overcome my lack of communication skills by participating in various
public speaking activities. I will try to enrol in courses which can improve my communication and management
skills.

Introduction
Being part of the European Union, UK has enjoyed various free trade agreements and work permit. However,
the changes in the law will bring various transformational changes in the business and the trade of the
country. The report will investigate the impacts of EU on the event planning industry.
Discussion point 1: The Impact of Referendum on Recruitment on Events Management
With the EU referendum, several changes will occur in the trade and commerce among the companies in the
UK. Before the referendum, the companies can recruit any candidate from any country in the European Union.
However, with this referendum, the business organizations of the UK will only have to limit their search in the
UK. Different companies and the business organizations in the UK use the local event planning companies in
the UK for the organization of the events and functions.
When the companies were in the European Union, there was a higher source of talent pool and the companies
can select more talented guys at a low cost. When there is availability of high number of candidates for the
same skills, the relative remuneration of the candidates will decrease. It will be beneficial for the companies.
The Applicability of Migration Laws on the non-EU workers
There will also be different laws related to migration of the workers from one country to another
country. The referendum will bring changes for the EU nationals working in the UK. There are several migrants
from the EU who are currently working for the UK companies at different roles. The referendum will lead to
the exile of these workers from the UK. These workers will fall under the UK immigration rules and they may
be exiled from the country. The current system is inclined towards skilled workers who possess a certain level
of English. For the UK companies, the selection of the non-UK resident workers will be a very selective process.
There will be significant consideration regarding the technicality, seniority, rate of pay and their residence
before the allocation of the job role.
Conclusion
Conclusively, it can be stated that the UK referendum for exit from the EU will have significant impact
on the event management and the planning industry. The companies will have to face several positive and
negative consequences due to this referendum. There will be scarcity of the highly-skilled and low-skilled
professionals in the company. There will be certain changes in the employment laws and the remuneration
structure. The organization will also face issues related to the employment scarcity. There will also be certain
changes in the employment laws. The country can repeal the employment laws or continue them which can
impact on the human resource practices of the companies in the HR industries.
On the other hand, there will be issues related to work permit for the non-residents of the EU. They
have to take special permit wherein they must possess some skill and significant amount of knowledge of the
English language.

Week 3: Written analysis of Data
Analysing data
Based on the graph looked at in the tutorial, first discuss, and then plan how to write an analytical
paragraph about your graph. You might want to include the following information:
1. A description your data (What is it? Where does it come from? What area is it focussing on?):
2. A summary on what the data shows in general
3. One or two areas of the data looked at in detail and an explanation of why you think they are
significant
4. The important trends and differences/comparisons in the areas you have chosen
5. Possible explanations for what the data is showing (remember to reference wider research to
back your ideas up)
6. A recommendation for further action that could arise from this data.
Individually write your data analysis as a paragraph (approx. 300 words). Remember to refer to the
graph/chart using correct OSCOLA or Harvard style in-text citation.
The above is the graphical representation of the data regarding the attractiveness of the decision of
the exit of Britain from the EU. A survey is conducted with different research participants to examine
the attractiveness of the decision. The graph also shed light on the perception of the people
regarding the impact of the decision on people from different countries. The survey participants give
their opinion regarding the impact of the EU exit decision on the attractiveness of the country. The
data shows that the decision of the exit will positively impact on the image and the attractiveness of
the country. According to the people’s perception, the overall impact will be positive except it will
negatively impact on the people’s perception in the UK. According to the data, about 24% of research
participants believe that the decision will tarnish the image of the country in EU countries. Other than
that, about 12% people believe that there will be very strong negative impact of the decision on the
image of the UK. It can be critiqued that the survey has rightly pointed out that the perception of the
people will be negative, once Britain will exit from EU. The people of EU will believe that Britain has
broken the alliance for its selfish reasons.
Other than that, globally also the people will consider that the decision of the exit from EU will
negatively impact on the image and perception of the country. UK should take some actions to uplift
its image and in the global upfront.

read and understand a text, tell your group about it, and make notes.
Write (in note form) the key ideas for the 3 different texts:
Text A:
In-text citation or OSCOLA footnote (Law):
Key ideas: There will be a number of pros and cons of Brexit on the event planning industry. The most
significant disadvantages are skills shortage, high competition, uncertainty in economy. On the other
hand, the benefits are opportunity to quickly adapt to the industrial changes, working with the companies
and industries outside EU (Houghton, 2016).
Text B:

There will be significant issues in the event industry, with the introduction of the referendum in the EU. The
companies will have significant issues regarding the human resources in the Event planning industry. Currently,
there is abundance of talent available for the event planning industry. However, with the exit certain migration
and other laws will be applicable on the people. It will negatively impact on the event planning industry. The
organizations will have to work hard to recruit the talented people within the organization. There will also be
increase in competition and the uncertainty in the economy. It is not yet decided how the referendum will
impact on the economy. However, with sudden changes, there will be fluctuation in the economy. The country
might change the employment laws which will impact on the HRM of the country. The human resource policies
and procedures are influenced by the employment laws of the country. These laws may change with the exit of
the country from the EU. Currently, the employment laws of EU are applicable in the country. However, with
the exit, there will be confusion whether these laws will still be applicable on the business organizations in the
country. The migration laws will be strict as the primary objective of the referendum is to reduce the migration
in the country. (Dhingra et al., 2016)

Introduction
The UK is one of the most developed and advanced country in terms of commerce and industrial development.
Being part of the European Union, the country has enjoyed various free trade agreements and work permit.
However, the changes in the law will bring various transformational changes in the business and the trade of
the country. The referendum and the associated laws will bring various changes in the event planning industry.
The present essay will briefly discuss in detail the impact of EU referendum on the recruitment in the event
industry. The report will investigate the impacts of EU on the event planning industry. The divorce bill pay out
may course a significant changes in standard of living in UK.
The Impact of Referendum on Events Management
With the EU referendum, several changes will occur in the trade and commerce among the companies in the
UK. Before the referendum, the companies can recruit any candidate from any country in the European Union.
There only concern was that the person has adequate skills and talent. If the companies were unable to find
talented candidates in a certain a geographical location, they can search for the right candidates at different
locations. However, with this referendum, the business organisations of the UK will only have to limit their
search in the UK. The hotels and the event planning companies are maximum in the UK due to its heavy
industrialization. Different companies and the business organisations in the UK use the local event planning
companies in the UK for the organisation of the events and functions.
However, with the introduction of the referendum, the foreign companies and the companies in the EU
outside the UK will not choose the event planning companies of the UK. The companies will also find it difficult
to attain more business from other companies. In addition to it, the human resource requirements of the
company will also suffer. When the companies were in the European Union, there was a higher source of
talent pool and the companies can select more talented guys at a low cost. When there is availability of high
number of candidates for the same skills, the relative remuneration of the candidates will decrease. It will be
beneficial for the companies. Other than that, the employment law will have significant ramifications for the
UK business and HR managers. The most significant change will be regarding the employment laws. The UK
government can repeal or revise UK employment laws which are at present required to be implemented as the
UK is being a part of the EU. Currently, there are a significant amount of employment laws related to anti-
discrimination rights, family entitlements, collective obligation and the duties of agency workers. Brexit will
bring a significant amount of changes regarding health and employment laws. Other than that, there are also
certain different regulations related to unfair dismissal and the labour disputes.
There will also be certain different issues related to the job market with
the exit of Britain from the EU. Currently, most of the companies rely on the temporary workers and they are
more unlikely to get a permanent employee. It will also impact on the ability of the UK organisation’s ability to
access the skills they need for the management of the organisation. The referendum will impact on the

Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC) in the pension system of the organisation. The market
volatility will occur with the referendum which will impact on the defined benefits scheme of the organisation.
Other than that, it may have impact on financial health and the pension of the employees. The economic
volatility will also strongly impact on different aspects of a firm, which includes incentives, pension and
funding. The immigration policy will affect the immigration policy and the talent pipeline of the organisation. It
will affect the talent pipeline of the organisation. The UK may introduce changes related to flexibility to the
employers, work time regulations and the policy adjustments. The market volatility will increase and the firms
need to consider the impact of falling share prices and the currency fluctuations while deciding the
remuneration of the employees.
Conclusion
Conclusively, it can be stated that the UK referendum for exit from the EU will have significant impact
on the event management and the planning industry. The companies will have to face several positive and
negative consequences due to this referendum. There will be scarcity of the highly-skilled and low-skilled
professionals in the company. On the other hand, there will be issues related to work permit for the non-
residents of the EU. They have to take special permit wherein they must possess some skill and significant
amount of knowledge of the English language. (Clarke, Goodwin & Whiteley, 2017)

SECTION 2: REFLECTIVE WRITING
Summary (all students)
In both academic and professional settings you’ll often be asked to reflect on your learning and/or work
experience. Write a 300-word reflective summary (using Gibbs’ reflective model to help guide you) about your
experience of the Academic Skills module and what you have learned.
Your summary should include two paragraphs on:
Your experience of working with a (study) group in an academic context. You should include
something you learned from the post-presentation reflection here (150 words).
One key academic skill you have developed as a result of taking this module (150 words)
Remember to write in full sentences and use paragraphs
Title: Reflection
I worked as a part of the study group in the academic context while designing a presentation for
the subject. While creating the presentation, I learnt various skills. I learnt how to work collaboratively with
other team members. In addition to it, I learnt that there will always be conflicts when two or more people will
work together. However, I realized that it is important to negotiate and adjust with other team members. It is
important that the team members work with a team spirit and divide the task between. There should be clear
communication between different team members and they should learn that it is important to divide the tasks
clearly so that no issue occurs at a later stage.
While taking this module, I learnt the academic writing skills. Till now, I was unclear about the different aspects
of the academic writing and how it is different from other forms of the writing. I realized the importance of
referencing and why it is important to present evidence-based information to the audience. I also understand

the value of critical thinking ability in the academic style of writing. It is important to critically evaluate each
and every aspect of the academic pieces of writing before including it in research paper. The paper must be
checked for the validity and reliability. Moreover, it is important that the paper includes only reliable sources.
Sources such as Wikipedia and blog articles should not be included in academic pieces of writing.
