INTRODUCTION
Academic skills refers to the habits and talents which benefits the pursuits at the
academic level such as learning, research, report writing and presentations. It basically includes
analysis, communication, social planning, technical skills and studying as well. There are
majorly five academic skills which includes time management, prioritisation, research, analysis,
cooperative learning and delegation as well(Prahmana., 2017). These skills are important
because it contribute in terms of increasing the productivity level. There are certain academic
credentials which are required to enter into the workforce and there are also many skills which
are transferable at the workplace. The present report will cover discussion about academic skills
and studying with confidence
MAIN BODY
Academic skills and studying with confidence
According to Richard Cleeve(2021), academic writing skills are fundamental to most
university courses. There are certain academic skills which are required for students from the
perspective of higher education. Academic skills are very significant at the academic level which
gives motivation for students in order to become learners into efficient manner. Academic skills
basically gives confidence level in order to proper engagement in courses of English-speaking
which are not valuable outside the classroom. For studying with confidence level, there are
certain skills which are required to develop within the classroom. There are five ways which help
help into this context of building skills in each of the categories and it is defined into the
following manner:
Discourse at academic level : asking and responding to questions: There are many
educators who ask from the day student for practising within the class for presentation
and there is requirement of proper skill (Prieur and et.al., 2016). Through asking the
students can be prepared for questions into the proper feedback for speakers where an
individual can translate the action into proper task of listening. When presentation has
finished there is requirement of conducting question and answer session which provides
feedback to the speakers that in which manner they can better deal with these challenging
questions.

Text strategies of academic level:inferred meaning in texts: When an individual has
the ability to do inferences which is very significant skill of academic reading. It not only
help in terms of understanding the text but also gives motivation to students for looking
for deeper meaning and read between the lines. For the purpose of inferencing, students
can use pictures, videos where students have the opportunity to infer the photo meaning.
When students have practised it on various ways then move towards the texts of short
level.
Strategies at academic level: effective notes writing: For the purpose of effective
learning it is important that to take notes into effective manner for the students. With
support of videos of short level like TED talks where students can take notes at the time
of watching (To prepare your students for higher education with support of five
academic skills).After that within the pairs and combination of notes of different students
can contribute in terms of recreating the video in a detailed manner. The tasks into
extension of further manner can be included with having the groups summarise their
notes into a tweet.
Composition: developing a coherent argument: Within the higher education,
producing the arguments into coherent manner is an important skill for learners and it can
be practice d into the classroom. From the perspective of learners, the arguments which
are into the written form is from the opinion section of the newspaper and sections need
to be cut(Ruge and McCormack., 2017). Reorganising the text and and once they get
correct then analyse the components which makes it coherent. After having the proper
discussion of students they can be written in their own arguments of coherent manner on
different kinds of topics which interest them. Then it is required to recite the arguments
with their subordinates and also gives feedback that in which manner the arguments are
logical.
Comprehension: finding out particular ideas in texts and academic lectures: Within
the classroom, at the time of activities of class reading , students should have the habit of
highlighting or underlining the text into appropriate manner which they think that it
supports for the answer an also discusses them at the time of feedback session after the
activity (Sasser and et.al., 2015). It has been observed that students should be
encouraged for not highlighting the big parts of text but instead of that they have to give

them a word limit. Learners can read the content into careful manner through reducing
the amount of underlined words in order to identify key phrases and words.
According to Kohli (2020), the key for students successful academic performance is that they
have look both from the expectations of students and staff as well. Academic skills is basically
defined as the core skill where presentation skills, academic writing and references are included.
Which are underpin complex skills like reflective practices and critical thinking.
There are different qualities of academics which includes positive attitude towards study,
passion towards the selected course, ability to think into independent manner and also ability to
perform work. It basically provides confidence level to students towards the study. For
achieving success into positive manner, it is necessary that there should be higher level of
confidence into students(Academic skills and studying with confidence).Within the learning
environment, it is important to build the confidence level within students because when a student
loses its self-esteem then they lose the motivation level as well within the process of learning and
studying. At the academic level, when student has lower level of confidence then they mostly
suffer in terms of their grade patterns as well and also sometimes they give up on their dreams,
hopes and plans as well(Song and Kim., 2015). Self confidence is the parameter which considers
as an ability to judge personal as well as social standing along with the respect to an environment
which can be influenced by several factors such as dedication level, upbringing, work
environment etc.
There are certain strategies which can be used at academic level in order to increase the
confidence level into positive manner and it is defined into the following manner:
Practice self-acceptance: For increasing the confidence level of students there is
requirement to do practice of self-acceptance which is alright about themselves where
they can look about their strengths and achievements as well that will put into a plan
which is into this context that addresses the weakness of themselves. It also support into
the context of self confidence maintenance that provides will power for learning of
students.
Amendment making at personal level : For analysing the specific goals and objectives,
they have to maintain their self confidence and esteem which brings changes at the
academic level. There are different kinds of amendments which will make them happy

and better about themselves such as social life(Umaru and Umma., 2015).It is necessary
to ensure that amendments are break down into sections of smaller level which can be
managed into effective manner.
Emphasise on achievements: For increasing the confidence level it is necessary that to
realise they have lot of things in their life which does not matter that what their
achievements are and also matters that what these achievements are. So they have to
prepare list about it and also add with all these things which they are proud of.
It has been required that students to emphasise on favourable and positive thoughts which will
aid to raise their self-confidence.
Rewards and support: The self-esteem can be build through giving rewards and
appreciations to themselves (Ziadat and Ziyadat., 2016). From the perspective of students
rewards are very valuable as it really matters into this context of development of
confidence and increasing the self-esteem as well.
Seeking positive experience: Students need to experience positive attitude for increasing
the confidence level and also they need to spend time with those people who like them
what are in useful. It basically surrounds with the great gratitude or experience and also
minimises those things which are constantly adverse.
CONCLUSION
The above stated report concludes that academic skills are very important in this
competitive world. It is important to have a proper level of confidence so that they can learn into
efficient manner and also can achieve their goals within the set period of time. It has been
concluded that there are certain categories of academic skills which are required to be learnt into
appropriate manner. It has been determined that a good level of confidence also enhances the self
esteem of a student which will result into proper development of an individual into effective
manner. It has been observed that having the academic skills and higher level of confidence
brings the opportunity for a student to enhance their career into positive manner. So its important
for a student to develop these skills so that they can easily stand out into this competitive market
at the professional level.
