INTRODUCTION
Academic skills refer development of skills which are basically problem solving,
analytical skills, good communication and creativity. These are important for students to become
graduate successfully by gaining knowledge and developing skills (Putwai, Sander and Larkin,
2013). It is a continuous process which goes on throughout the time a student study in a
university. This portfolio covers a reflection about various services provided by the university in
shaping their future. In covers development of effective skills, confidence gap between male and
female international graduate students, impact of EAP study on academic experiences,
management of adolescent depression and many more.
MAIN BODY
Q1. Development of effective study skills and self confidence in academically able young adolescents
I went to the university to become a person with many skills which can help me making a career.
Study skills can be developed by going through the information which are related to the subject study
(Stebleton and Soria, 2013). These skills comprise of reading, concentration techniques and making
notes which can be used further. On the other hand, self-confidence is a positive factor which reflects the
power and abilities of an individual. There is direct connection between these two above-mentioned
elements and study skills help building self-confidence which can be within a person forever. Young
adolescents have the curiosity of learning new things which can be through effective classes, seminars
and sessions. Also, there can be special classes for developing god study skills.
Q2. Students perceptions of their information literacy skills
I as a student have participated in the surveys conducted by various international universities in
order to understand the element of confidence between male and female (MacPhee, Farro and Canetto,
2013). According to the results of those research, it is observed that female is slightly confident than their
male counterparts. Furthermore, some more studies and research have been conducted which show that in
the male dominating world, girls are at better position when it comes to developing skills related to study.
According to me, there have been number of incidents which show that girls tend to have better literacy
skills because of their high confidence and learning capabilities.
Q3. Impact of EAP study on academic experiences of international post graduate students in Australia
Document Page
EAP programs are conducted by universities to give numerous opportunities by studying overseas
universities. From my own experience, international post graduate students have greater satisfaction about
such course. Australia is a country with good opportunities in education and jobs therefore, the students
who attended EAP course have developed good learning and study skills. Together with this, they have
become more creative and experienced in their own field and chosen subjects. Academic experiences are
important for better understanding of demands which are there in the society. It is useful in obtaining
information regarding variety of discipline which may help I getting access to a lot of educations matters
which are beneficial for an international student. Furthermore, a EAP student is better at using
communication skills and other improvements.
Q4. Influence of personality on the students’ confidence in their academic abilities
Confidence in a student is compared and seen with personality traits and grades. According to the
results obtained from surveys conducted on the students, confidence is reflected in the personality which
comes from within in a natural manner (Cottrell, 2019). This helps in enhancing the reading and writing
skills which ultimately leads to perfection. There are other elements as well such as conscientiousness,
extraversion and perfectionist in the current subject and learning. A positive personality can be the
outcome of number of factors which may be related to educational or personal. A person with strong
personality is assumed to have greater confidence in generating academic abilities by which the whole
graduation can be better and make the students competent enough to take.
Q5. Perception or confidence? Self concept, self-efficiency and achievement in Mathematics
Mathematics is a subject which is based on lots of calculation and equations which help in
resolving various numerical questions. It is completely based on perceptions of different individuals who
made it complex by adding some topics which are not relevant for practical world. I have this opinion that
self-confidence should be there to study this subject as it is not easily understandable and requires
practice to become self-efficient. This is the only way through which a student can learn the formulas
which helps in building confidence but ultimately the perceptions and reasons behind formulation of any
topic requires consistency.
Q6. Student confidence or overconfidence in the research process
Research is a critical examination of data or information collected through various sources for
obtaining results. Confidence is useful in giving the right outcomes which can provide the desirable
choices to be made for the best. However, with the high study skills and abilities, there may be some

circumstances in which students may feel overconfident about their work which is going to give negative
and undesirable outcomes that is not according to the need (Greenwood and et. al., 2014).
Q7. Development of information literacy skills in pre-registration nurses
There are many methods through which the necessary information to the nurses are given. Some
of these methods are practical sessions, digital classes through project, and many more. Information
literacy skills is required for becoming eligible to apply for nursing course. This is the first step for this
course.
Q8. Adolescent depression
Depression is an issue related to psychology of human which is a mental problem that may occur
due to numerous reasons. The pressure in universities due to high level competition is the outcome behind
this.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been concluded that study skills and abilities should be there in the
students by which they can be excellent in all the subjects that are being taught in the university. These
are developed over the time and which applied in the career for getting jobs and earn income. Also, there
should be effective management of depression which a student goes through. Together with this, there
should be seminars and classes to build confidence in students.
