Introduction
Personal development is the life long process. It is a process of accessing the
individual skills and qualities and by considering objective and aim in life in order to
maximize the potential. Personal development helps the person in identifying the
skills and need to set the target to achieve employment skills, raising confidence and
leading higher quality of life. It helps in improving self awareness, self knowledge
and potential of the person. Personal development is important in individual life
because it helps in self- actualization process (Vetere and Stratton, 2016). Self-
actualization is the process of becoming everything which they want to become. This
report covers the concept of personal and professional development. Then
description and discussion on the value short term, medium term and long term
goals. And last it covers the discussion on the value of personal development plan.

1. Definition of the concept of personal and professional development.
Personal development is the process of defining the activities that develops
the individual capabilities and increase their potential. It also facilitates the employ
ability and enhance quality of work life and there is realization of dreams. Personal
development takes place at the time of life span. It is not limited to self help but also
it includes formal and informal activities for developing various roles. It also develops
the individual skills and their personality. Definition of the personal development is
the development of the person in an organized manner of behavior which makes him
distinctive from other people. There are various examples of personal development
goals which are confidence is the most important personal development skills which
is to be highlighted by everyone in the plan. Then next is listening actively- person
needs to listen to other person very actively to make proper conversation. They
helps in building good communication skills in himself. Then improving body
language- is the another task which is to made as by improving body language helps
in bringing confidence and individual can make proper communication (Turpin and
Shier, 2017).
Professional development is the process of used as a references that is used
as the variety of training and professional learning that helps the person in improving
its skill, competencies and effectiveness. Professional development is the type of

learning to earn professionally. Professional development for the educators are the
broad range of topics and formats. It refers to the tool, resources and training
process to improve the teaching quality and effectiveness of an individual. Methods
of professional development includes the reviewing case studies, technical and
mentoring assistance and coaching and consultation. These methods allows the
person in enhancing their knowledge and allow learning new techniques. Person
who take part in works or leadership programmed then they enhance their
qualitative, technique and analytical skills (Miao, 2016).
2. Description and discussion of the value of short term goals identifying at least 3
personal examples
Short term goals are the goals which a person needs to fulfils in the near
future. The near future can be in terms of today, a week , a month, or a year. It is
that which a person needs to accomplish as soon as possible. They can helps the
person in making big changes. The importance of making a short goals is that they
help the individual in in thinking how far they are away from their objective. They
might be small but they can help the person in completing big task and
achievements in the life and career. Short term goals minimise procrastination. And
they lay down a particular path of success and allows the person to focus on the one
thing at a time. This focus not only helps the person in staying motivated but also
helps in increasing productivity and achievement of long term goals more quickly.
They act as a milestone in the journey of an individual to reach on the long term
goals. It is said that to achieve long term goals person needs to break them into the
shorter goals. They helps in seeing the ultimate goals clearly and sets specific
guidelines to help in achievement of long term goals (Kubyshko, Kruk and Fedotov,
2018). There are certain short term goals which are mentioned below for example:
ï‚· Providing schedule of 15 minutes briefing to the staff.
ï‚· Communicate with the workers efficiently.
ï‚· Waste less time during the workplace environment.
ï‚· Improvement in body language with 2 months.
ï‚· Make good interaction within the colleagues to make good ethical behaviour
within a organisation and the working environment.

3. Description and discussion of the value of medium term goals identifying at least 3
personal examples
Medium term goals are those which takes more time to accomplish as
compared to the short term goals. They are the bridge time between normal routine
activities and long term activities. They are tough to identify and plan for. This may
take a longer time to achieve them and also they ca involve large amount of money.
They can be achieved in next 2 weeks or months or 4 years goals. They are said to
be medium term goals because they are not so short and not so long goals which
needs to be achieved. Medium term goals are made after individual have done
graduation, secured a job and started his career. These goals should be
accomplished in between three to five years. Its is founded that the best type of
goals are considered as mid term goals. Medium term goals is much tricky as
compared to the short term goals. Person keep the sum of money to keep it safe
which can be needed by him tomorrow. It is useful for the person or company to
check the progress report with the previous report because this gives an idea that
they are beneficial for the company or not (Kerr and Houge Mackenzie, 2020). The
examples of medium term goals is mention below:
ï‚· Managing of quality survey from the customers in every two months.
ï‚· Go on a dream trip.
ï‚· Buy a new house.
ï‚· Reinforcing my contact list by making contacts with my colleagues in office
and explore new things in next 12 months.
4. Description and discussion of the value of long term goals identifying at least 3
personal examples.
Long term goal are the goals which are achieved by the person in their future
period. The future period will be in number of years. As these are generally from 5to
10 years. Long term goals provide proper planning and time to execute in person's
life. They are not something a task which a individual can complete in a week or a
month. It can be completed after many years. But sometimes it takes various steps
to complete that long term goals. These smaller steps are considered as short term
goals. Long term goals are important for the individual career. This can be last for
the whole working life and they helps the person in educating what they need (Cook,
Hayden and Denitzio, 2016). Long term goals can be used to get the best job in the

future. Also, at the context of institution, long term goals can helps the organisation
in achieving the companies profitability and revenue. There are certain benefits of
long term goals which are that they give internal compass. When a person makes
certain goals based on the principles then he needs to use internal compass to make
decisions. Long term goals helps the individual in evaluating the values. This helps
them in regular understanding of the decisions they made and they try to make
efforts to fulfils them. Goals helps in setting specific goals and giving more purpose
in drive. When a person sets his goals then he is not only waking up at doing good
job but he may good at the better presenter and attaining proper direction (Johnson,
Robertson and Cooper, 2018). There are certain examples of long term goals which
are shown below:
ï‚· To become a branch manger in the organisation in next 4 years.
ï‚· To start my new business and make initiative to retain sustainable in the
market.
ï‚· To gain more skills like technique and analytical skills.
ï‚· Learn a foreign language to enhance my skills and knowledge so that I can
get more good job in any MNC company.
5. Description and discussion of the value of a Personal Development Plan.
Personal development plan is refers to the process of creation of an action
plan which is based on the values, reflection, planning, awareness and goal setting.
It can be in context of the career, relationship and self- improvement. The another
name of personal development plan (PDP) is the individual development plan (IDP).
This PDP involves various things like person's strength and competencies,
aspirations, education and training needs and time duration to complete that goal.
Personal development plan also involves the statement of person's career, his
opportunities, priorities, analysis of risk and alternative plans. There is the
importance of personal development plan is that development of PDP helps n
making difference between success and failure. Personal development plans are are
used for work as it helps in becoming more positive which improve the person's
behavior. The benefits of the PDP is that it allows the individual in looking towards
their strength and weaknesses and identifying the ways to improve those
weaknesses (Duboust and Knight, 2018). It helps a person into making of current
plan and build on the current skills. If the person needs to achieve something new

and achieve new heights in the career then he make personal development plan.
This helps them in going thorough the goal and work towards. This may helps in
keeping the person motivated and works in the direction of the goal. There is an

a number of year. Personal development plan is made of mine and there are some
improvements which I needs. As in the context of an organization. Person can have
