INTRODUCTION
The personal and professional development helps in accomplishing the work life balance.
To be competent professionally, one needs to be aware of their own strength and weakness. This
awareness helps to be professionally competent. The objective once identified is broken down
into attainable short, medium and long term goals. The fragmentation of the goals into
achievable goals helps in effectively accomplishing it. Based on the identification of ultimate
goal then helps in identifying the skills which needs to be developed in order to achieve the
goal. The strengths so identified will help in achieving the opportunities lying in the corporate
world. The weakness so identified needs to be honed up in order to turn it into opportunity
(Chatham, 2016). The weakness is being worked upon so as the roadblock is eliminated in
achieving the ultimate goals. The aim of this report is to identify the skills which is needed for
my personal and professional development. As, my ultimate aim to have a good management
career in an multinational organisation. Lastly the PDP plan is made in order to develop an
action plan to eliminate my weakness and develop a skill set which will take closer to my
ultimate aim.
TASK 1
Concept of personal and professional development
The Personal and Professional development are synonymously related terms, as the
development of skills and talent results in the personal and workplace efficiency. The both terms
go hand in hand and results in the development of self while resulting in the personal
development and growth which contributes to achievement of workplace goals. To, remain
proficient one needs to develop the skill set which helps in satisfying the self growth needs and
directly resulting in accomplishment of professional goals. The organisation also give due
importance to career planning (Goodall, 2017). The career planning refers to planning the career
of an employee in relation to satisfy their self development, growth needs and helps in adding to
the capability of an organisation also.
Therefore, one needs to remain upgraded and plan the goals in order to satisfy the
personal and workplace objectives. To accomplish the goals they are broken down into SMART
(Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound) goals which makes it easily
achievable. The goals so set should not be vague should be clearly stated. They should be

measurable and relevant. To measure it properly the goals are broken down into short, medium
and long term. By fragmenting it makes easier to compare and measure the performance.

The Short term goals refers to the goals which needs to be achieved in a immediate week,
month or one year depending on urgency of ultimate goal. The immediate accomplishment of the
work needs setting of the objectives which will help in achieving the long term goals. The short
term goals bridge the gap to achieve the long term objective (Grinkevich, Kuskova and
Shabanova, 2020). The importance of short term goals cannot be undermined as this helps in
reaching to the ultimate big goals. The setting and measurement of short term goals is much
more easy rather than measuring long term goal. The identification of the short terms goals to be
achieved in context to personal and professional development are as follows;ď‚· To enrol in certificate course that will help in gaining the professional edge.ď‚· To improve the interpersonal skills.
ď‚· To improve the work-life balance.

The Medium term goals are the goals which needs to be achieved in greater time period
of short term but less than long term goals. The medium goals are set in accordance with the
short and long run objectives. They all differ in time period. It acts as the connecting pin between
the short term and long run objectives. Setting of the medium goals help in reaching the ultimate
goal more efficiently. The setting of medium goal helps in accomplishing the ultimate goals in
more planned and systematic way (Jackson, 2017). The instances of the medium term goals that
will help in achieving the ultimate long term goal area as follows;ď‚· To get the professional degree thus increasing the professional competence.ď‚· To engage in sport activity which will polish the team building skill.
ď‚· To get trained in the technical skill which will help in acquiring the proficient skill to
make the effective presentations, excel and specialised software etc.

The long term goals refers to setting the goals in accordance to achieve the ultimate goal.
These goals are set in for 3 to 5 year time frame depending on the main goal to achieve. The

accomplish ultimate goal is judged with the efficiency to accomplish the long term goals. After
setting the ultimate objective it is broken firstly into by identifying the long term goals (Lefera
and Swart, 2020). Then these long term goal act as the basis for setting the short and medium
term goals. The long term goals to be achieved are as follows;ď‚· To develop the entrepreneurial skill which will help to turn my business idea into reality.ď‚· Developing the leadership skill to motivate the workforce.ď‚· Gaining the experience from corporate world to develop the management skill.
The short, medium and long range goals are always interrelated and interdependent.
While setting goals the backward approach is selected as, firstly the long and medium goals are
set and then they are divided into short term goals. While accomplishing the forward approach is
being used as firstly the short, medium and then long range goals are being accomplished.
Personal & Professional Development Plan (PDP)
The personal and professional development plan is the actionable plan developed in order
to achieve the professional and personal objectives. This is the plan which helps in achieving the
career goals while satisfying the personal goals. It determines the competencies which are
necessary in order to achieve the goals so set and it involves the self analysis. The self analysis
helps in identifying the strengths and weakness and develops the plan to overcome the weakness
so identified (Lejeune and et. al., 2016). The self analysis is as follows which will help in
identifying the requisite strengths and weakness;
Strength: As per my analysis I identified that I am good at grasping new things. This will
help me always in learning new things. I analysed that I am good at listening, which helps in
properly understanding and analysing the facts. In order to be effective one needs to possess the
active listening skill. I am good at solving the conflicts. With my analysis, I found that I am
creative with my approach. I have that ability to analyse the situations from new perspective
apart from the set approach (Newman-Ford, 2018). The great problem solving skills helps in
analysing the situations better. In the corporate world, one needs to have the analytical and
problem solving skills which will help in gaining the professional edge.
Weakness: From the above analysis while setting the short and medium goals I analysed
that I sometimes extend my deadline. I understand the importance of time but needs to be more
punctual to complete the task within the set time-frame. I also lack the confidence while
interacting with new people. This hinders my idea while putting forward. This impacts my

personality also. The shivering and nervousness while interacting with large groups impacts my
personality negatively (Passmore and Sinclair, 2020). I analysed that I lack the sociability, which
shows my weakness in relationship building. In business world it is necessary to complete the
things on deadline and have the strong personality. It is necessary to have the confidence while
putting forward the new ideas.
This analysis helps in gaining the view related to the skill sets needs to be developed. The
PDP plan is made in order to identify the strategies in order to overcome the weakness. The
timeline is also specified which helps in effectively accomplishing the weakness into strengths.
This helps in grabbing the opportunities lying in the business world.

overcome this I will attend various
sessions which will help in overcoming
