Introduction
Personal development plays an essential role in the overall growth and
development of an individual, it is considered to be a life long process involving
enhancement of the skills and capabilities analysing their aim in the life and according
implementing the plan to achieve those goals and objectives effectively. For an
individual to be successful in the academic life the personal and professional plan plays
an essential role in enhancement of overall personality of a person. Effective balance
between the personal and professional plan helps the individual to achieve desired
goals and objectives. These also helps in analysing the different skills and capabilities
of an individual. This report highlights the detailed analysis of the personal and
professional development along with the value of short-term goals and value of the
medium-term goals. In addition to this the value of the long-term goals and the value of
the personal development plan is also highlighted in this report.
Definition of the concept of personal and professional development
The personal development plan is defined as the set of required goals and
objectives created by the individual in order to be successful in their personal academic
career effectively, it is basically the self reflection or the improvement plan created by
the individual (Senyshyn and Smith, 2019). There are number of personal goals and
objectives that is needed to attained by the individual in order to ensure their personal
growth,l the personal development is considered to be a lifelong process where the
individual learn throughout their life. The personal development plan is one of the
essential plan or the statement prepared by the students mainly including their personal
skills. Whereas the professional development plan is a essential statement created by
the individual including their career related strategy which helps them to gain career
related opportunities (Alatas, 2018). The professional development plan includes the list
of action needed to be considered by the individual in order to achieve career goals
effectively. In overall growth and development of the individual both personal and
professional plan plays an essential role as effectively development of the both personal
and professional plan will help the students to have clarity of the actions that are

needed to be followed by him in order to achieve their goals and also it will help him in
gaining competitive advantage in the marketplace effectively.
Description and discussion of the value of short term goals

Short-term goals are the kinds of type of goals that are needed to be achieved by
the individual in the coming near future which can basically means today, this week or
can be this month also. This type of goals are generally small objectives set by the
individual in order to motivate themselves and also to prepare themselves for the long
term goals. The short term goals are set for a limited period of time leading towards
personality development of the individual effectively, these type of goals helps the
individual to analyse what can be done by the individual right away effectively (Bridges
and Bridges, 2019). These type of goals also helps in managing the time effectively and
efficiently. The determined time period for the short-term plan is basically 6 months.
These type of goals will be short small also will be completed in the shorter time but
completing them will help the individual to effectively move towards achieving the bigger
goals and objectives also. Once the short term goals are achieved the individual will get
the confidence to move towards accomplishing medium term goals. Some of the
examples of the short term goals are highlighted below:
Improving time management skills: The short term goal is to improve time
management skills which will help in completing my work on time and also managing it
effectively. This will help in achieving target goals also.
Enhance oral communication: another goals in to enhance oral communication
skills which will allow in effectively transfer my ideas to others and avoid any kind of
misunderstanding.
Learn to manage stress: The short term goal is to learn to manage stress
which is very important in order to work smoothly avoiding any kind of mistakes (Haslip
and Donaldson, 2021).

Once the short term goals are achieved the individual moves towards achieving
the medium term goals, the medium term goals are the type of goals which take a little
longer in the accomplishment. The medium term goals are generally achieved in the
next two weeks or may be in a months, these type of goals are generally comes
between short term goals that are attained by the individual and long term goals that
individual plan to attain after achieving the medium term goals effectively. The value of
the medium term goals is that it allows the individual to evaluate one's progress and
also analysing whether a individual is still moving towards achieving the long term goals
also whether the plan or actions considered are needed to changed or not by the
individual effectively. The medium term goals are shorter than the long term goals but
helps the individual to gain confidence and prepare themselves for the long term goals.
One of the major reason of achieving the medium term objectives is that it helps the
individual to gain confidence to move towards setting the long term goals and objectives
effectively (Libby, 2020). The medium term goals plays an essential role in enhancing
the overall performance of the individual and also achieving medium term goals
effectively. Some of the examples of medium term goals are highlighted below:
Develop problem solving skills: The goal is to develop the problem solving
skills which will helps in analysing the situation and solve it effectively, effective problem
solving skills will help in overcoming the problem and achieving desired goals.
Achieving effective leadership skills and qualities: The another medium term
goals is to achieve effective leadership skills and qualities which will help in leading and
influencing the team members towards achieving desired goals and objectives. This skill
will help in leading the team effectively and efficiently and will also be helpful in the
career development.
Gaining management experience: Another medium term goals is gaining
management experience, this will help in managing and handling things in the
management effectively, it will also help in carrying out various thing smoothly without
any mistakes (Manson and Cordovés, 2018).

Long term goals are very important for the purpose of having a successful career. It is
sometime that a individual is willing to achieve in the future course of time period
(Sreen, Purbey and Sadarangani, 2018). These are usually for a longer time period as
compared to the present short and medium terms goals that have to be achieved in
relatively shorter time period. Career lasts for whole working life of a individual it is
related to the type of education that is required by a individual for the purpose of
achieving the laid long term goals.
Importance: These goals are very important for the purpose of self improvement. It is
providing something for which a individual is Striving and can help them in remaining
focussed towards shaping the direction of their careers (Ogbeiwi, 2018). In case of the
professional development of a individual short and medium terms goals are assisting to
achieve the laid long term goals. It takes a long time period to set up long run goals by a
individual as it is related with the way there is requirement of effort, time and planning to
achieve such laid goals. These goals are set up for the purpose of maximisation of the
present skill sets of individual in the process of throe future professional development.
In present scenario there are three major long term goals that are identified which
includes:1) Getting a university degree: The goal is to work towards achieving the
university degree. It will help in completion of the post graduation process. In this
the main focus will be to attend all the classroom lectures (Ionescu, 2017). If
there is working simultaneously going on with degree learning process than there
can be use of degree apprenticeship for this long term goals.2) Learning a new language: It is also a long run goal where the main objective is
to learn a new different language as compared to the present known languages.
It is going to help in improving the present skill sets and future professional
development.
3) Enhancing emotional intelligence skill: for a individual having higher
emotional intelligence skill will help in maintaining of interpersonal relationships
to fit in various groups (Mujika and et.al., 2018). People with higher emotional

managing of the stress effectively.

The personal development plan is a type of well written plan prepared by the
individual in order to analyse their personal skills and capabilities, it also helps in
creating an detailed action plan for the purpose of self enhancement, growth and
development effectively. It is process of evaluating the personal skills, achievements,
performance, learning in relation to the personal learning effectively (Melles, 2019). The
effective personal development plan helps in the overall personal development of the
individual, each individual has their own personal goals and objectives that are needed
to be attained by them in order to continue to enhance themselves in their career
development, the effective personal development plan helps in analysing the one's
goals, interest, ability and capabilities which will help in achieving desired goals and
objectives. The main value of the personal development plan includes that it helps the
individual to effectively plan a career change or also help in enhancing the current skills
which are essential for the overall development. With the effective personal
development plan individual will be able to learn something new and develop
themselves in their career path. This plan will also help individual to have a well defined
goals to work for and work towards effectively (Schoenfeld, 2020).

It is concluded from the above discussed aspects that there are various different
goals that are identified by a individual in the course of their learning process. It is very
important to identify such goals at per the associated time duration of each goal. It will
lead towards achievement of higher effectiveness and efficiency in the course of
