INTRODUCTION
Academic skills refer to those skills that help individuals in succeeding in their academic
life. This report aims at discussing academic skills and personal development plan can help
individuals in developing academic skills. With help of personal development plan individuals
can also develop professional skills. This report will later also discuss about effective referencing
techniques.
Task 1
Personal and professional development
Personal and professional development refers to a process through which individuals get
involved in a process that involve learning and through which individuals can meet desired goals
and objectives. This means that through personal and professional development individuals
develop skills and knowledge that is aimed at contributing in their desired goal achievements
(WHY IS PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IMPORTANT?, 2020).
Value of short-term goals
Short term goals are those that are developed to be achieved within a short time span.
This time is maximum of 1 year and short-term goals play a very important role in attainment of
long term and ultimate professional goals of individuals. Other than this, short-term goals are
also important as they contribute in avoiding procrastination, and individuals become more clear
and concise towards attainment of their goals in long terms. Achieving short-term goals also

years. Mid-term goals are those that link short-term goals and long-term goals. This means that
through medium-term goals individual can achieve significant success and what they want to
become. Value of the medium term goals is that individuals find enough time to work on their
