1. Introduction
The personal and professional development involves various activities which
can be helpful in enhancing skills and competencies through which development can
be made. Personal and professional development is an ongoing process of skills and
competency development which helps in attracting various opportunities that can be
helpful in shaping career and attracting greater employment opportunities (Cowley
and Hyams-Ssekasi, 2018). This report is based on personal and professional
development. The study will discuss the benefits of personal and professional
development and will outline some examples of short-, medium- and long-term
goals. In order to achieve short-, medium- and long-term goals, a personal and
professional development plan will explain strategies through which skills and
competencies can be developed.
2. Definition of the concept of personal and professional
development
Personal and professional development is a continuous approach which is
used to determine the key skills and competencies that can shape career and attract
more opportunities. Personal and professional development is a continuous
approach which helps in enhancing the required skills. With the help of effective
personal and professional development, this can help in enhancing the performance
standards and support in meeting the desired standards and objectives. Personal
and professional development plan is the plan which supports in gaining knowledge
and enhancing the ability to perform the assigned work effectively.
Professional development is the approach of enhancing the knowledge and
quality of life through which the capabilities and potential of individual can be
enhanced and therefore, it supports in creating human capital and offering incline in
employment opportunities and development of professional skills (Gamble and et.al,
2020). Personal and professional development plays a crucial role in creating human
capital, offers opportunities for growth and enhances the skills and knowledge of
performing the assigned work effectively. However, personal and professional
development is helpful in making development in personality and career through
which better opportunities can be availed.

3. Description and discussion of the value of short term
goals identifying at least 3 personal examples
Short term goals are those goals which will be achieved in the near future.
These goals need to be achieved in the short period of time and acts as fundamental
base through which a path can be created for making the progress towards the
achievement of long-term goals. Short term goals are such goals through which the
required skills and knowledge can be enhanced. Short term goals offer supports in
pathway to success that can be helpful in attracting greater opportunities (Lejeune,
Beausaert and Raemdonck, 2021). The major focus of short-term goals is to break
these goals in shorter SMART objectives through which such objectives can be
achieved. Short term can be achieved with the help of dividing the planned
objectives in shorter objective through which progress can be ensured.
Short term goals are valuable as such goals supports in- setting benchmarks
that can be helpful in achieving long term objectives. Such goals are helpful in
creating specific and clear guideline through which objectives can be accomplished.
These goals are helpful in dividing long term goals through which the target can be
easily achieved. Therefore, such short-term goals are also supportive in bringing
clarity and sense of direct ion to meet the bigger picture.
The three examples of short-term goals which needs to be achieved are-
ļ‚· Get good grades in semester exams
ļ‚· To enhance communication skills
ļ‚· To work on my public speaking ability

Medium term goals are those objectives which lies between short term and
long-term goals. These goals are the bridge between short- and long-term objectives
which needs to be achieved (McGill, Heikkila and Lazarowicz, 2020). In order to
accomplish medium term goals, SMART objectives should be achieved through
which a pathway to success of long-term goals can be created and progress can be

made for personal and professional development. The completion and achievement
of medium-term goals will be helpful in motivating people through which they can
willingly work forward for the achievement of other objectives and reach milestones.
Medium term goals are interlinked with short- and long-term goals and connect each
other through developing skills, competencies and support in enhancing knowledge
through which all objectives can be accomplished.
Medium term goals are valuable as such goals support in understanding and
focusing of the interconnection between the short- and long-term goal and
encourages to maintain a competitive performance through which all desired

order to achieve a long-term goal, a person must divide tehri goals further into short-
and medium-term goals through which they can make steady progress towards
achievement of these desired and planned long term objectives (Osgerby, Marriott
and Gee, 2018). For achievement of the long-term goal, a person must indulge in
effective planning which will be helpful in creating a staircase towards the
achievement of organizational objectives. These types of objectives are more
complicated and takes longer period of time span. Short- and medium-term goals

acts as backbone for the company through which they can support in the
achievement of long-term objectives.
The value of long-term goals can be seen as these goals supports in shaping
the skills, career and supports them in staying motivated which will be helpful in
meeting their self-esteem and self-actualization needs (PĆ©rez Cavana and Lowe,
2018). These type of goals offers purpose for which a constant progress and effort is
made. These goals are helpful in offering a sense of direction.
The 3 examples of long-term goals which needs to be achieved are-

Personal and professional development plan is a blueprint of all strategies which
are formed to enhanced the identified shortcoming through which knowledge can be
increased, competencies and skills can be enhanced. With the help of this ongoing
approach, this will support in defining, assessing and developing qualities and
capabilities of people through which they can attract greater opportunities.
Personal and professional development plan bring various opportunities
through which a person can focus towards the accomplishment of these objectives
and can maintain the level of motivation trough which they can work towards the
achievement of short-, medium- and long-term objectives (PĆ©rez Cavana and Lowe,
2019). Personal and professional development plan brings a sense of direction and
purpose by planning and defining objectives which needs to be achieved.
