PERSONAL REFLECTION
I am a student at Suffolk University. I have joined this university for accomplishing a three-year
course. For the successful completion of this course, it was very essential for me to learn the
skills of Academic writing. Despite the huge efforts made by me for learning the academic
writing skills, I had faced a huge amount of difficulties. As I had just moved to Boston, the major
problem faced by me was related to the English speaking and writing, which form an essential
part for the completion of SSPC studies (Srikrai et al., 2016). I was lacking vocabulary which was
majorly the English academic writing vocabulary. I had been using the formal language since
long, due to which it became very difficult for me to make use of formal language for the
completion of my report. I was also facing difficulties in summarizing the articles and
paraphrasing of the essential information which was needed to be included in the articles and
other relevant material for academic writing (Hyland, 2016). The other major problem which
was faced by me was related to the finding of the appropriate and the related articles with
which my work could be referenced appropriately.
It is very essential for me to overcome these difficulties for ensuring that I gain a detailed
understanding of the concepts of academic writing and to successfully complete the SSPC
course. With the objective of overcoming these difficulties, I would connect with qualified
English teachers within the university who would help me in understanding the aspects of
academic writing (Alharbi, 2017). Also, I will also engage myself in reading books and articles,
which would help me in learning the required formal language.
