Presentation: Academic Essay Writing Experience and Study Skills

This presentation reflects on a student's experience with academic essay writing, specifically focusing on the process of completing Task A1, which involved comparing the education systems of the UK and India, identifying similarities, and exploring potential improvements to the Indian system. The presentation is structured into introduction, body, and conclusion, detailing the skills gained, such as independent thinking and improved grammar, and the impact of study skill classes on communication and creativity. Introduction
The presentation is about my experience on the process of completing Task A1 that was about
comparing the education system in UK and Indian, similarities of the education system in India
and in UK and ways of improving the education system in India.
The presentation will also cover the challenges that I faced during the process of writing
academic essays. The presentation will be structured in three parts the introduction, body and
the conclusion.

Experience after undertaking academic essay
I have written several academic essays concerning various topics.
Writing an academic essay has given me great experience as a writer. Academic
essays have taught me to think independently as a writer.
Academic essays have helped me to improve on my grammar as it has made me
improve on how I construct my sentences and the way I base my arguments.
According to Aldrich (2012), a writer of the academic essay aims at convincing
the reader of a particular idea and producing evidence about it.

Experiences on writing this essay
 Writing an academic essay in the UK has impacted me with relevant knowledge
and skills required in writing. For instance, I have gained experience in
presenting an argument and communicating it effectively.
 In previous essays, I was not able to incite and provide references for my work
but for now, can cite and give references for where I have researched my work
from.
 According to Raham, Wang et al 2018 to write a good essay in any field of study
you must take time to think about the topic and basis of the argument to develop
a reasonable basis about the topic of discussion.

Importance of study skill classes
 Study skill classes have helped me enhance my communication skills. It has
helped in being able to talk with my audience better and in a clear way.
 I have also improved my creativity and imagination. Through learning the skills
on writing being able to engage my mind and all senses in the process of writing.
 Through learning the skills of writing can argue accordingly and respect my
audience without being biased based on race, gender or ethnicity.
 According to Grand (2017), effective writing is a pathway for effective
communication. You cannot write effectively without connecting the words to
your heart and brain.
How feedback has helped me improve in writing.
 Feedback from peers and tutors has helped me too in doing my revision and
practice in writing an academic essay. Feedback has made me a better writer.
 Feedback creates a sense of ownership to the writer about his/her work.

Reflection on the academic essay
On the process of writing the essay, I was able to communicate vividly about the
topic of discussion. I made a clear comparison of the two systems.
According to Gimenez (2019), practical writing communicates the message to the
person who is reading in a clear manner.
I was pleased by my ability to communicate to the audience about the issue and
felt happy that I was able to meet my objective to the audience.
According to Ver der Sanden and Mejinam et al. (2008)effective communication
help the writer to pass the message effortless and effective.

Action plan
 If I was to do this essay again, I could concentrate more on my grammar. I could
pay more attention to spelling mistakes, punctuation and sentence
construction.
 I have Identified a software that would help me improve my grammar. This
software runs through the work and identifies all the typos since it easy to miss
your own typos.
 The main area of weakness identified by my peers and the tutor in the essay
was grammatical errors in the sentences.
 I would be more keen while constructing my sentences, also I would always put
my work to the grammary before submitting it.
 According to Muslin (2014), the use of correct grammar in writing is essential in
communicating effectively. A writer should use exact words to avoid distorting
the message.

Conclusion
From the above discussion writing, an academic essay has improved my grammar
and vocabulary that I can use to communicate effectively.
I have benefited from attending the study skill writing classes through the
following ways.
It has improved my creativity and imagination.
Can argue accordingly and respect my audience.
Despite having benefited from attending study skills classes am still experiencing
some difficulties in grammar which am still working on them
