INTRODUCTION
Accommodation is defined as a building, room & lodging that gives shelter to an
individual to sleep and stay. Accommodation management is termed as a service that is related to
the accommodation service provided to the customers in a proper manner. It is important for the
hospitality sector to set specific standards for maintenance as well cleanliness in an effective
manner (Miscavage, 2018), The accommodation service is needed in both public and private
sector such as conference centres, hotels, hospitals and so on. Tourist industry is considered as
most emerging and growing sector which provide many job opportunities within the market.
There are different kind of set ups is open in hospitality industry in order to expand their
business activities and operation in a proper manner. Accommodation service is considered as an
integral part of hospitality industry which gives comprehensive service to their customers. In the
present report, Intercontinental hotels & resorts is chosen as a base company. It is a British
hospitality organisation which head office is in Denham, England. The organisation have
presence in more than 90 countries and have around 5,000 hotels worldwide. The present report
is divided into two parts, the first part discusses about different types of accommodation services
within the hospitality industry. Along with this, the role of front office department within
accommodation service is cover in the report. The second part discusses about the contribution
which housekeeping department did in order to provide better accommodation service.
Moreover, the significance of security and maintenance plays in the accommodation service is
describe in the report.

This department of hotel provide an adequate service to customers due to which it develop
positive mind-set that impact positively on brand image of a hotel. The given chart

Duties of housekeeping
There are various responsibilities as well as duties of housekeeping department which is
performed by them in a proper manner. These are as follows:
To check availability of goods such as toiletries, bedsheets in rooms before allotting room
to customers.
To make empty garbage bins from kitchen and rooms (Sanchez and Florez, 2018).
Clean and maintain refrigerators on continuous basis and to wash curtains is also the duty
of housekeeping.

Coordination with front office: The front office department update housekeeping
department about the availability of rooms so that they can clean rooms before guest is
coming (Durak and Çankaya, 2019). In relation to Intercontinental Hotel, it is not assign
room to guests till the rooms is cleaned by housekeeping department. Both front office &
housekeeping department communicate each other regarding room status so that they can
provide good services to customers
Coordination with security: Security plays an important role in every hotel and it
develop positive mind set of guests as well as employees. In relation to Intercontinental
hotel & resorts, its housekeeping department inform security if they find any changes.
Along with this, its managers ensures proper safety and security is given to customers that
leads to enhance in sales and profit of hotel.

Analyse the importance of communication between housekeeping and other departments
Communication is crucial in every segment of working area. No departments or
organisation can operate without use of communication. So, it is important for firms as well as
departments to communicate so that message and information is transferred and understand by
both receiver and sender (Gotlib, 2019). Departments need communication so that they
understand each other point of view and message which they want to indicate. Two way
communication is necessary for successfully managing and maintaining activities and
management. With assist of communication conflicts and errors are resolved in appropriate
manner. Thus, communication contribution is important when two or more than two parties are
involved. For effective result and positive outcomes communication is important.
Importance of technology/security in enterprises
Technology and use of security is important in service industry because customers and
client’s information are to be maintained in proper manner. It is important for organisation to
execute latest technology in order to provide secure and safe environment to its customer. They
focuses on providing safe environment to its guest for increasing good image as well as
reputation of hotel. It also helps in boosting profitability as well as future success and growth of
hotel. Technology and security are important at different aspects which are mentioned below-
Staff- Security is first priority of both employee as well as customers. Hotel industry
provides the security to its staff and employees by providing them with health insurance,
safety schemes, etc. Providing these schemes and facilities increases employee morale
and motivates them towards goals and objectives.
Guest- Customers are essentials in service industry because they act as important sources
to hotel industry. So, it is crucial to provide proper security and effective measures so that
customers and guest feels safe in hotel (Meeks, Jain and Herzer, 2019). Safety can be
provided them by giving protecting their debit and credit card information, personal
information so that misuse is not done by third party or competitors.
Hotel Security- Another core element of security is safeguarding the interest of people as
well as hotel. Hotel security is important so that theft, money laundering or irrelevant
activities does not affect the business growth overall development.

Assessment of role which maintenance plays in accommodation services
It is important for service industry to properly maintain and manages their management
system both online and offline. Maintenance is required and crucial in service industry at every
level because it deals with number of operations as well as functions. So, a proper maintenance
is essential to be considered for continuity of business (Hope, 2020). Thus hotel and services
should be well organised and managed so that customer’s requirements and needs are fulfilled in
appropriate manner. Maintenance requires huge cost, finance, proper resources and equipment
which are to be developed and managed in effective manner.
CONCLUSION
From the above study, it has been analysed that the major role play in hospitality industry is
accommodation services. There are various types of services such as hotels, motels, hostels
to the people as they choose according to their budget and convenience. Moreover, there are
different of ownership within the accommodation services which assist in providing better
service to customers. The grading system of hotel involves 1 star to 5 star along with their
examples. In addition to this, the role played by front office department in hotel and guest
house is analysed in the report. Furthermore, interrelationship among different departments
is describe & role that housekeeping department & perform in hotel. The importance of
technology and security in hotel assist in providing better service to guest that leads to
increase in sales and profit of hotels.
