INTRODUCTION
Hospitality industry can be defined as a broad business industry that is major concern for
offering and providing effective services to the customers related with accommodation. By
satisfying more number of customers it is easy to gain top position in market. In the present
scenario, hospitality business involves wide category of fields that undertakes food & drink,
event planning, menu design and accommodation services to fulfil all neds of customers. Along
with this accommodation sector is the largest sector for tourism industry that attracts more
number of visitor or tourist to stay and view destination (Barlow, Roehrich and Wright, 2013).
The selected organisation for this report is Hotel Gotham that is located near 100 King street,
Manchester, UK. This study highlights on size and scale of accommodation services within
industry. Roles of housekeeping department and office department in the organisation. Role of
front office functions with a variety of accommodation services will also be included in this
report.

P6 Key roles of housekeeping department in hospitality industry
The housekeeping department of a hotel manage cleanliness, luxury, safe and hygienic
environment in internal premises of organisation. The main function of housekeeping department
is to generate home like friendly environment in organisation. So more number of customers are
attracted and satisfies from accommodation services of hotel Gotham (Buhalis and
Amaranggana, 2015). Some effective roles related with accommodation services of
housekeeping department is as follow:
Retain of employees- Executive housekeeper hold the charge of overseeing and
controlling all activities that relates with hotel and its functions. Along with this
housekeeper also ensure low turnover of employees that enhances employee satisfaction.

To arrange resources- In the present scenario, all task which are performed by
management must provide actual number of resources. This refers that housekeeper are
responsible to provide all resources that engage more number of persons to complete all
work within specified time period.
Training and development- The main role of housekeeping manager and other
authorities is to provide right training to all employees. Right training is concern for
employees and hotel management of Gotham that leads to increase overall productivity of
organisation. Right training also boost performance of employees so they are also
motivated to perform work in effective manner (Common, Flynn and Mellon, 2016).
Managing team work- All operations and functions which are performed by hotel is to
satisfy needs and wants of employees. But due to diverse workforce it is complex for
company that they perform organisational work with proper management. So Hotel
Gotham manage and satisfies needs of all employees appropriately through monitoring,
discussing and solving all issue that impacts on routine work of company.
P7 Importance of forecasting stock and other guest supplies to match supply with demand
Forecasting work as one of the most effective tool that is used by hospitality organisation
for determining future needs and demands of customers. With the proper forecast of market and
business environment it is easy for organisation to deal from upcoming challenges and
uncertainties. With linen stock it is identified that with right household products it is identified
that guest are satisfied in proper manner. Towels, soap, clean room, comfortable bed etc. are
some of the most important aspects for Hotel Gotham that leads to perform work in effective
manner. Importance of forecasting for hotel industry is as follow:
To maintain inventory level- With forecast of upcoming demand related with customers
hotel management ensure to gather and store only essential stock. So it reduces the overall
expenses of company that also increases profits for organisation. Consumable and non-
consumable items are also collected as per separate level (Davis and Murphy, 2016). This helps
to maintain inventory in proper manner like consumable items are perishable so it must be
maintain properly.
Enhancement in promotion management- Price and promotional strategy for an
organisation leads company to increase flow of products and services. This refers organisation

concern to perform work that increases promotion and advertisement of products to attract more
customers.
Increase in customer satisfaction level- Forecasting also work as an important process
that is used to perform work in minimum time period. It governs by forecasting overall tools it is
easy for management to complete task appropriately. Hotel Gotham arrange all services and
products as per customers needs that increases profitability and brand value for organisation
through maintaining stock as per decided level (Hamlet, 2013).
P8 Importance of interrelationship between housekeeping and other departments
With proper interrelation in housekeeping and other departments organisation play an
important role to maintain good quality services with guest that is mention as follow:
Relation with front office-The main focus to complete work is to manage all task with
involvement of front office as they are first person that interact with guest or visitor. So
housekeeping department follow the instructions of front office employee to perform work in
organised manner. Example- Process start with arrival of guest and last with leaving of visitors.
So both department coordinate with each other to perform task effectively.
Coordinate with food and beverage department- Hotel Gotham is well-known for its
accommodate services. So by coordinating with food and beverage department it is easy to
attract more number of customers by satisfying their food and drink needs. Along with this it
also ensure that food products play a crucial role in hospitality industry for satisfying needs of
customers (Hammond, 2015). Front office offer welcome drinks and starter to guest by
coordinate with food departments.
Events and conference- Hospitality industry consists various operations and functions to
perform organisational work with in appropriate manner. This undertakes tour and travels, food
& beverage, accommodation of guest etc. but due to globalisation aspects event as well as
conference are most important part. So front office collect all data related with particular event as
it helps them to transfer relevant and meaningful information to guest who come up to attend
conference and events.

P9 Importance of scheduling repair to reduce disruption of guest
Guest, visitor or tourist who visit a place are focused to experience a good trip so Hotel
Gotham perform all work with follow of proper schedule. So less number of guest are distributed
while performing repair or maintenance work (Niewiadomski, 2014).
Role of facilities manager- They are responsible to formulate right contract through
overseeing and making contract with all other staff that includes security, cleaning, catering and
parking. Manager of Hotel Gotham fix schedule to maintain work with different time of arrival
of guest and worker who repair the items.
Maintenance Engineer- While improving functions and operations of an organisation all
plans are scheduled as per maintenance of work due to which there is low breakdowns are
managed. It also refers that with repairing of equipment it is easy to work with technical staff.
Security manager- With implement and develop of security policies, procedures and
protocols it is easy for management to perform all task and operations within effective manner.
Guest and there things are responsibility of Hotel Gotham so security manager must ensure that
workers tools must not impacts on them.
Maintenance department
With proper maintenance and accommodation services it is easy for organisation to
enhance satisfaction level of customers. Hotel Gotham is more concern about performance of
there work that is leading individuals to manage work on daily basis. Maintenance include
proper functions of light, air-conditioner, lift and selection of right colours to utilise and attract
more number of individuals that leads to check and monitor all work in proper manner. For
example- management of Hotel Gotham provides all information and check its total equipments
are working with in proper manner (Noe and et. al., 2017). Housekeeping department also work
as an important tool because it check that organisation is not facing any maintenance issue by
interacting with guest.
P10 Importance of security in hospitality industry
Security department
In hospitality industry with proper management of security an organisation is able to gain
competitive edge by generating faith and trust among customers. Moreover, security is important

for both hotel premises and guest as both parties are exchanging share and information to work
with right equipments. This is also important for organisation to provide better security system
for satisfying guest by using less resources. From the perspective of Hotel Gotham company is
managing all work with formulate of right schedule. This results organisation is able to satisfy all
customers through offering better security system that provides to work with better approach. It
also impacts on sale of rooms and profitability of hotel (Rose, 2014). With this aspect
organisation take all effective initiatives to complete organisational work in minimum period.
Along with this Hotel Gotham also provides right information that is offered by guest to work
with right aspects as it helps to provide information that book to complete work in proper
manner. It also leads company to perform work by utilising right information that is provided by
guest. Along with this digital techniques leads individuals to book hotels online and it also helps
to perform work with secure and safe mode of payment to generate trust among individuals.
CONCLUSION
In the last, by the above report it is concluded that travellers and guest are most important
part for an organisation which is operating business in hospitality industry. As the growth and
success of business also depend on visitors as it increase number of revenue for organisation.
Moreover, to gain best travel experience customers and front office department perform
important role for generating better impression. Housekeeping department also manage and
complete organisation task through maintaining cleanliness and offering good quality services to
customer that satisfy needs of customers in proper manner.
