Reflection on Accountant Role and Skills at LinkedIn

We have selected LinkedIn which is a business and employment- oriented service entity and
having nature of business is internet industry.
Work environment in industry:
LinkedIn is one of the leading employments– oriented service industry and the working
environment and culture is fabulous. The company is a crossroad between our start up roots
and the MNC enterprises. The management of the entity is supportive and pay scale and other
amenities are high as compared to other entities. Further the work culture is most friendly,
innovative and open.
Role of an accountant in LinkedIn:
Being an accountant, we play very significant role in an organization. We as an accountant
performs various financial functions such as recording and analysis of transactions, dealing
with various stakeholders etc. We also ensure that financial accounts are maintained in
compliance with all laws and accepted accounting policies and procedures (S. Davis, 2019).
Further being an accountant, we also prepare financial reports, internal auditing and also
plays role of external business affiliation.
Role of new graduated student in industry:
As a new graduate student, we can work as a management trainee in the industry and we
should have at least basic and theoretical knowledge of accounting and finance. Being a new
graduated student, we have been deputed for some research projects and helped the senior
management to identify innovative way to resolve the issues in different manner. Further we
are awarded with such roles and responsibilities so that in future we can take the
responsibilities of managers. Further as a new graduated student, we are transferred to

different departments so that we can acquire various skills, can learn functions, polices and
staff responsibilities.
Skills and attributes required for an accountant and graduated student:
Being an accountant and a graduate student, we should have all technical knowledge related
to our job responsibilities and should have knowledge of accounting standards and
procedures, analytical skills related to financial reports and ratios. Apart from technical
knowledge, we should have strong ethics and integrity in our accounting and bookkeeping
services. Being an accountant, we should have interest to learn new things and to adapt
changes quickly. We should concentrate on accuracy and to meet deadlines so that
expectation of management can be meet. Further both the stakeholders should have
organization skills, sense of accountability and ability to work as a team.
Alignment of skills and attributes required for job responsibilities:
In my personal opinion and past experience gained, the skills and attributes required for
working in LinkedIn are aligned with my experience as an accountant. The management of
the entity is required to have all technical knowledge in the filed of accounting such as
accounting standards and guidelines, accounting policies, valuation techniques, financial
statement and ratio analysis techniques etc. which we have gained during the graduation
study, industrial training and various practical industry assignments (Rebecca Brace, 2018).
Further management also want to have a self- starter and to handle the job responsibilities
independently which we posses and learned from industrial training program.
Strategy to address for improvement in attributes required by employer:
As a professional accountant we should make the strategy for improvement in some
attributes which are required for job (Kate Lopaze). As a professional we should be updated
regarding amendments in laws and regulations and should attend seminars and training

program for updation of new laws and regulations (Mat Gavin, 2020). Further in current era,
we should enhance our IT skills by taking technical and software trainings so that duties can
be performed well in short duration and smoothly.
