Introduction
The company that has been chosen by me to work as an accountant is Deloitte, one of the
prominent companies amongst the Big Four firms in auditing and consulting related services.
The purpose of this write up is to reflect on the working environment of the entity.
Work Environment of Deloitte
The website of Deloitte suggests that the chief aspects to the execution of the company’s
strategy include diversity and inclusion. Hence, the workplace is an inclusive environment where
everyone can contribute towards the growth of the organisation (Deloitte Australia 2020). Other
benefits provided by the entity in the workplace in this regard include extended parental leaves,
inclusion of women, more opportunities to the LGBT community and cultural diversity within
the workplace of the organisation.
Role of an accountant in Deloitte
According to the website of the entity, the main role of an accountant is to provide
strategic advice and support services to both the clients and the internal functions of the entity.
Other roles undertaken by the accountant include technical and accounting support like account
reconciliation & control and statutory accounting (Deloitte Australia 2020). Other roles include
finance facility administration, cash flow forecasting, tax compliance support and fixed asset
management along with the management of payroll services.
Role of a newly appointed graduate
The company has a policy called the Graduate program where newly passed out
graduates are appointed by the organisation. The expectations of the company include getting
sufficient client exposure to learn about their business and obtain multiple networking
opportunities. Other opportunities include working on hands-on projects and obtain relevant

professional training and guide throughout the program. The graduates are also expected to learn
from various professionals operating across industries.
Skills and attributes required by the industry partner
The main skills required by the industry partner include sound knowledge of accounting
and tax related concepts along with financial management. Other skills include the ability to
form connections as a part of the business and ability to learn quickly about the client’s business.
Some of the attributes include good communication skills, dedication towards learning from the
job and the willingness to take responsibility (Deloitte Australia 2020). The person should also
volunteer for the causes of charity undertaken by the organisation.
Critique of self
Some of the skills that I have include knowledge about accounting and good
communication skills. However, I need to improve my technical skills related to accounting
software like Xero and Tally. Even though my communication skills are good, I am not very
good at creating networks. My knowledge about specific industries is also not very high which is
also required to be improved.
Strategy
One of the steps would be to improve my knowledge of the accounting software Xero
and also learn more about Australian Taxation. Apart from this, other steps would include
working on developing networks by attending seminars organised by the entity. Following the
industry based reports and obtaining more knowledge about the business conditions is another
important step in the skill development.
