ACCOUNTING IN CONTEXT
Reflection
This reflection is being constructed in order to reflect on the seasonal work that I had
done during my session break in order to earn some part time pocket money. I therefore had a
part time work at a local food joint where I worked as the cashier. I got hired for the seasonal
work as the actual cashier was on leave for 15 days and after he would join I would work as his
assistant for the rest of the days. It was a new experience for me as I had never had a working
experience and on the first day of the job I had a feeling that was a mixture anxiety and fear.
I was appointed on a daily wage basis and had to work for 8 hours in a day in the cash
counter where I had to maintain the records of all the transactions that were taking place on a
daily basis. At the end of the day I had to close the account and I found my job to be very much
interesting.
The structure of my workplace was a very good one as all the employees and the
management executives were very social and jovial and always complimented me and
encouraged for my work. They used to assist me in the works where I had some problems and
during the peak hour of the day, they would lend their hand in order to get my job done
effectively. The structure of the cafe was formal where the decisions came from the top level
however; the management took the feedback and advices of their employees as well. I really
appreciated this structure as this encouraged the employees to share their ideas and gain a feeling
of bonding with the cafe. The cafe maintained a blend of the traditional and modern culture in
which each and everyone respected each other and worked as a family and performed their
activities according to the needs and the demands of the customers. These things were very easy
to recognise as it a part of the daily operations.

ACCOUNTING IN CONTEXT
I gained a sense of motivation from the compliments and the encouragements I received
from my peer members and higher personnel and development of my performance motivated me
to work harder in order to give out my best. I had a sense of accountability in the workplace as if
I was unable to keep track of the accounts properly; it would lead to financial discrepancies that
would have an impact on the business. I never had the feeling that there was anything that I
disliked about the workplace and the employees but the only discomfort I faced was the use of
outdated accounting software that made my work slower than normal. This is one thing that I
would have liked to change. My performances have always been greatly rewarded as I have been
financial as well as non-financial benefits like extra leaves and free meals in the cafe because of
my dedicated performance and I have always been very satisfied with the rewards they have
provided. My stay in this work was excellent and I wish I could spend some more time there and
learn a few more things just for an experience.
