Definition of Goal
According to me, goal is defined as the object of the ambition of the individuals
which will be achieved by them within a course of time. I feel that goal is the process of
deciding what the person wants to achieve and accomplish and devising a plan to achieve the
result which is being desired by them. According to Mauro (2016), the professional goal and
personal goals are different from one another as professional goals require proper planning
and organizing of different activities which will help in managing the different kinds of
activities in a proper and effective manner.
Selection of Goal
The goal which has been selected by me is to become a manager in a reputed MNC
after completion of MBA program. This is one of the dreams which I want to fulfil as I feel
that I have the leadership quality which is required to become a successful manager.
Importance of the Goal
The major importance of the goal which have been selected by me are described as follows:
Firstly, due to globalization there has been increase in the job opportunities in the
market and there are huge employment opportunities available as well. This will be beneficial
for me to succeed in the respective goal.

Lastly, I feel that I have the leadership quality which is essential in nature for
becoming a manager as leaders have the capability to understand the queries of the
employees and solve them efficiently.
Criteria of Selection of the Goal
The main criteria which is selected by me while selecting the goal are as follows:
The first criteria are that I feel I am honest and responsible for the different kinds of
activities which are performed in the organization. Furthermore, I am confident on handling
the team of diverse group of members which will be essential for my growth.
Secondly, I feel that in order to become a better manager, it is essential for providing
more feedback which can be done through quantifying the feedback such as by using the 360-
degree assessment which will help in exhibiting the different goals.
Furthermore, while I will be creating the goal, I would be required to analyse the
different kinds of relevant aspects along with values of becoming a successful manager which
will help me in becoming successful.
Lastly, I would be requiring deadline or time frame to become a better manager and
this will improve my quality to become more effective.
Goal Setting Theory
According to Bishop (2015), the goal setting theory is inclusive of the action plan
which is being designed in such a manner which helps in motivating and guiding a person
towards the goal. The goal setting can be analysed with the help of SMART criteria which I
have discussed above. This will help and assist me in my personal development along with
the growth in my professional career as well.

Applications and Effectiveness
Self-efficiency is the first application of the theory which helps in making the
individuals confident and they have the potential to increase their self-efficacy in performing
the different kinds of tasks.
Goal-Setting Theory helps in leading towards the better performance by increasing
the motivation among the different employees and the efforts will be valued as well (Grant
2016). The theory is the technique which is being used in order to raise the incentives for the
different employees to complete the tasks in a quick manner along with maintaining
effectiveness.
These are the two major applications and effectiveness of the goal setting theory
which will help me in:
Analysing the goal difficulty which includes the difficulty to achieve the goal
Analysing the clarity of the goals which are required to be achieved
Analysing the extent to which I will be accepting the goal
Analysing my level of commitment towards the goal which is required to be achieved
Implications of GROW Model

Goal- My main goal is to become a successful manager in the reputed Multinational
