A memorable stint: Amazon & ACT
hand in hand
Working with a prestigious name like Amazon.com and pursuing my studies at Seneca
College, Newnham College, North York, ON, Canada, simultaneously was a demanding
task. It was a true test of physical and mental capabilities. Under the current phase of my
life, I accepted this challenge and soon I realized that I am having the best of both the
worlds and completing two distinctive milestones of my professional journey at the same
time. My stint with ATC taught me about various theoretical aspects of the ATC and now
this wisdom has become an addition in my skill profile.

Accounting Basics
Under this section of the course, I gained the first-hand knowledge of primary accounting
and the preparation of various spreadsheets, profit, and loss statements. This course
taught me that an understanding of the functions of accounting allows a person to
develop a thought process that can be considered as business acumen.

Managerial Accounting
Managerial accounting is an advanced topic where I learned some method s to look at the
accounts from the point of view of a manager. While practicing managerial accounting it
is important for a person to look at the things from an objective point of view. With the
help of managerial accounting, a person can develop the culture of reporting in an
organization.

Accounting Mathematics
Certain fractions of regular accounting have an opening in the field of big data and the
accounting practices that support decision-making mechanism. ATC course enriched me
with some skills in the advance accounting mathematics; these skills will help me in
understanding complex systems of decision making and preparation of the projection
charts in the future. I am optimistic that it is a skill that will help me in the advanced
stages of my career.

Cantax Software
In-Depth knowledge of Cantax software helped me in understanding the tax laws and
other provisions of Canadian taxation bodies. The inclusion of Cantax in the syllabus is a
good idea because I learned about this software with ease of “trial & error.” This first-
hand knowledge of the software will help me in the future course because it added a new
feature in my employability profile if I am targeting Canada as a job market.

Excel Advantage
MS Excel has become a baseline language of financial accounting and other types of
accounting in the 21st century. It changed the scenario completely. Although new
applications and customized packages are hitting the deck and supporting big data,
however, vast knowledge of Excel and its advantages cannot be negated because it
forms the fundamentals of all the advanced and evolved versions that are available.

Sage 50
My skills in sage 50 gave me a very valuable lesson of my life, it taught me that while
executing a small business a businessman should stay prepared for the phase of scaling
up a business. As a software sage 50 allows us to handle a scaled-up business with ease
and this is why it is an important addition in my skill profile.

Quick Book Accounting
Quick Book accounting software is emerging as an easy solution for many small business
users.The current success ratio of this account package and its acceptance in various
industry sectors clearly dictates that during the next technology-based transition in the
field of accounting, the data accumulated and processed by Quick book may play a
crucial role, I had first-hand knowledge of this account package in my ACT course and
determined to update myself with the latest developments that are taking place in this
stream of knowledge.

The teaching methods of ACT taught me a lot about the practical implementation of
knowledge. After spending almost eight months with Amazon.com and ACT, I feel that I
am heading towards becoming an industry ready employee.

Amazon taught me many things about the organizational culture, it taught me that what
is needed if you wish to survive in an organization. ACT on the other completed this circle
for me because they taught me that why it is needed. Learning the theoretical aspect of a
practice completes the circle of knowledge, I feel that I am fortunate enough to have the
best of both the worlds.

I am thankful to all my teachers and batch mates for supporting me during the course of
this journey in ACT. I am an Indian, India as we all know is a society that follows “high
cultural contexts” of interaction. Canada, on the other hand, is a society with “low
cultural contexts .” In terms of diversity it is a big gap, I am thankful to all my teachers
and batchmates who made me feel that I am at home, during my stint in ATC.
