PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT
Introduction
Arthur is a student of 7th grade who is 12 years old. He is a student with good academic
background. According to the case he was actively involved in all the classroom activities and
performed excellent in academics. But recently his behavior is changed as his progress in
academics is decreasing and his work is poorly organized and incomplete. He feels fatigue in
classrooms and he is deprived of sleep. Because of that he lost his things and become
argumentative. His mood also fluctuates quite often. The main reason behind this referral is that
this child was previously performing well and he does not suffer from any major illness as well.
Sudden change in behavior of Arthur is the question to be addressed.
Parents are making this referral on the request of teachers of Arthur. Since it is a referral by a
parent for the concern of their child, the assessment needs to be done with utmost care and by
declaring every cause identified in his evaluating tests. A very transparent method of
examination should be done in these cases as it is related to the parent-child bond. The intended
customer for this report is every stakeholder who is directly or indirectly related to Arthur
because this problem can arise to any child of his age as he is going through adolescence
(Gunnar, et al., 2013). So the assessment results and major cause behind this behavior and the
tackling tactics should be discussed with every child of Arthur’s age and their parents, teachers
and the practitioners of medicines.
Data Analysis
The most effective way to organize the data is by giving a brief about the case of child. Then
discussing the various tests used to assess the behavior of child and conferring the test results of
the child. After the results, a conclusion and recommendation to the parent and every other

stakeholder should be provided and necessary means to tackle the child’s issue should be
addressed. In order to make this information understandable and useful for the readers, we must
detail about the case history, the probable cause behind this issue, the necessary tests done on
child, the results obtained from those tests and the recommendation and medication advised for
the child in simple and empathetic manner as the intended reader of this report might be
indirectly or directly involved with the child’s welfare or they might face the same issue in future
(De Los Reyes, A. 2017). The Children like Arthur are often perceived with misconceptions and
misunderstood because this is the time frame when they leave their childhood and get converted
to adulthood. The behavior as observed in Arthur are commonly seen in adolescence and
characterized as issues like problems relating to performance in schools, cheating, lying,
rebellious behavior, disrespect and disobedience, rivalry with siblings, negative attitude, alcohol
and drug abuse, peer pressure, sexuality issues and depression.
Observation
Using the field notes provided and, referring to the specific testing instruments and methods
used, describe the pertinent client behaviors and test conditions relevant to test outcomes and
conclusions. The client, i.e., Arthur was observed in classroom and while conducting tests. While
observing his behavior in class, the substitute teacher compared his behavior with other peers
and it was observed that he was not concentrating on his studies and also required many prompts
from his teacher to concentrate on the assignment. His homework was also observed thoroughly.
In the test observations, it was found that he was not conversing spontaneously as he was giving
delayed responses to the examiner. He was giving brief replies to the queries regarding his
activities of interest. Since he was awake till 2 a.m. the night before, he was continuously

yawning. His attitude towards tasks of testing were variable as for some of the activities he
showed little interest and on others he was more interested.
Setting for the Observation
The setting was natural for the observation and Arthur was totally aware about the observation.
Since he was casual about the test and showed less interest in the activities and taking into
account his introvert behavior, it can be commented that this behavior directly related to the
referral question of changed behavior of the child.
Response of Subject to Testing
The subject was comfortable in responding to questions of his own interest and hobbies. While to
other questions and assignments he responded in very introvert manner. The yawing of the
subject was due to sleep deprivation that is common in the adolescence age and he was variable
towards the various assignment. This duration of adolescence invites numerous problems relating
to performance in schools, cheating, lying, rebellious behavior, disrespect and disobedience,
rivalry with siblings, negative attitude, alcohol and drug abuse, peer pressure, sexuality issues
and depression, inefficiency to respond to questions and issues by strangers and showing moody
attitudes towards others.
Benefits and Limitations
Rationale for the Selection of Test
The tests conducted were very mild on the behavior of child as it was based on his achievements
and IQ. The testing of psychology of adolescent and child includes looking at various impacts
and influences, stages and issues that is experienced throughout the development of functioning

in adults. The psychology in adolescents and child are divided in two distinguished areas: the
real process of development of psychology that the child undergoes while growing up and
treatment and analysis of various issues and problems faced by the child during their
development. The tests consisted of questions which were asked to check his attitude towards
strangers, his own interests, his assignments and his body gestures while responding. He
obtained scores on his achievements and IQ on the basis of the ratings which he received from
his teachers and parents.
Assessment of Different Approaches Used
The test performed were mild and it gave a lot of answers to the queries raised by the parents and
teachers regarding the behavior of the child. Since adolescence is a transition process for
children, this is considered as the hardest time for children as they experience many changes and
variations in their feelings and bodies. The Children like Arthur are often perceived with
misconceptions and misunderstood because this is the time frame when they leave their
childhood and get converted to adulthood. The behavior as observed in Arthur are commonly
seen in adolescence and characterized as issues like problems relating to performance in schools,
cheating, lying, rebellious behavior, disrespect and disobedience, rivalry with siblings, negative
attitude, alcohol and drug abuse, peer pressure, sexuality issues and depression (Carr, A. 2015).
The limitations of these tests included the non-clarity over the test results of the child and this led
to inappropriate results of the Subject. The assignment test was relevant for the assessment of the
child as it showed his concentration level and interest level for the academics and any other
activity assigned to him.

Conclusion
Arthur, a 12 year old is going through adolescence resulting in decline in academic performance
and sleep deprivation for which he needs special care and attention (PDF, 2017). Behavior
problems are commonly observed during adolescence and parents’ concerns regarding the same
are attracted by school teachers who spend more time with children than parents. The threats and
limitations to the validity and reliability of results include the ways to analyze results, biasness of
the evaluator, sample size collected. More tests can be conducted to know his interests etc., his
favorite food etc. proper bedding etc. Child is facing the difficult phase of adolescence and needs
special care and attention.
Recommendations
Sufficient information was provided by the client. Child may be taught about the transitional
period between childhood and adulthood. He should be engaged in activities with his interest
(Ginsburg, et al., 2016). The current research depicts a child suffering from psychological issues
due to his adolescent age. Listening to his problems, resolving queries and meeting all his
demands can help him pass this age smoothly and happily. As per test results, recommendations
are evident and result oriented.
Reflection
I took this project on priority as I have been through this stage in my childhood. I tried to be
friendly with the client and made sure he answers my questions without any hesitation or fear.
Sleep deprivation is most alarming and needed cure on priority. Sudden lack of interest in studies

is important evidence which needed relief. Information about his friends, movements, food
habits etc. would benefit more and discussion with his parents/teachers and friends would meet
the requirement. The study investigated the impact of sleep deprivation and other several aspects
of behavior relating problems in children in early adolescence. We must take good care of
children during this age as they need special attention and care from their near and dear ones.
