Education aims in the overall development of the personality of a human being. The right
to education is not just applicable for children and young people. Adults can too learn and enrich
their capabilities, as gaining knowledge is a never-ending process (Knowles, Holton & Swanson,
2014). Mature people can develop their prized skills and raise their standard of living through
continuing education irrespective of their age.
Adult education helps in the betterment of the society as it facilitates active citizenship
(Lindeman, 2015). After continuing education, the confidence level of the people increases with
a sense of dignity. Even though people are old enough to learn, vote or work can continue
education. Adult education can be developed in various forms, which involves both informal and
formal education, first, through vocational trainings and adult literacy programmes, for people
who want to gain knowledge in professional fields. For example attending seminars, workshops,
part-time classes, classroom teaching and online courses would guide them to apply for a job
they ever wished. Educating adults plays a crucial role in decreasing the rate of illiteracy (Usher
& Bryant, 2014). Secondly, adult education can be developed in the society in the form of raising
awareness on health and proper hygiene. Imparting education to the people about parenting and
childcare in today times is beneficial for the society. For example, through clinical education, the
adults can learn new techniques and training programmes for self-aid and nursing. The adults
should also be educated about the importance of family planning and measures to control the rise
of population in future (Knowles, Holton & Swanson, 2014).
Moreover, setting up medical camps in the area for health awareness that requires direct
involvement of the local adults would prove to be a great help in imparting knowledge to the
people and raising the standard of living. Thirdly, an adult can pursue their education for self-
fulfillment of their personal desire at any age. Education in theatres, music, cooking, dance,
literature and art should have special classes and different shifts for adults according to their
preferences. This would further help in personal enrichment of the people and would further help
in effective participation in social life. Lastly, educating the adults regarding community
developments, national and international level affairs would increase their encouragement in
participating actively in politics and voting resulting in positive outcome (Lindeman, 2015).
Education empowers the adults to evaluate, understand and transform the nation into a better
place to live (Boud, Cohen & Sampson, 2014). To guide the future generation, education is vital

for all people in the present generation to strive a learning society, which would help them to
progress in life (Usher & Bryant, 2014).
Education is a life-long, continuous process and can be achieved at any stage of life.
Throughout life learning new things and gaining knowledge is important for everyone in the
ever-changing environment. Adult education gives chance to the mature once in developing their
skills by learning new things and contributing in the growth of the society and nation.
