INTRODUCTION
Academic Reflection refers to the ability of the presentation of own views and thoughts
to the world which leads towards identification of own mistakes so that the appropriate
rectification steps can be taken in a right manner (Barrineau and et.al., 2016). In this essay,
detailed focus will be made on the reflection to be done on a chosen career.
MAIN BODY
Scenario- I am a student studying in a university in U.K. I am a studying a course related
with Nursing. I aim to make sure that I pursue a career in nursing in the future. I want to become
an Adult Nurse in the future and therefore I want to make sure that I am able to develop
appropriate skills and competencies which are required for this particular purpose. This will be
quite helpful in ensuring that I develop these skills and competencies in a right way in the future.
I will be able to pursue excellence in my profession in this way which will help me in my career.
Identification of chosen health/social care role- My chosen career is Adult Nurse. It is
a profession in which the people are required to play a very important role in ensuring that the
better care of the patients can be taken and therefore they can be helped with their wide range of
medical needs and requirements. Thus, it is an important role which I need to play in the future
which will be useful for ensuring that the medical needs and requirements can be met out in a
better way (Ghanizadeh, 2017).
This role will be quite helpful for me in ensuring that I am able to take better decisions in
the future which will help me a lot in the right way.
Entry into chosen health/social care role- In order to work as an Adult Nurse, there is a
requirement of having a degree which is registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council i.e.
NMC. Also, it is required that the completion of pre-registration nursing course is done so that
the eligibility to enter can be ensured as these courses are only run at NMC-approved educational
institutions i.e. AEIs. Therefore, these are the particular requirements which are essential for
becoming an Adult Nurse in U.K. Thus, by fulfilling those overall needs and requirements can be
fulfilled (Healey and Jenkins, 2018).
Further, it is quite essential to aim for skill development which will be quite helpful in
becoming Adult Nurse in the future. Thus, it is very important that the right skills can be
developed for this particular purpose like Teamwork skills, Cooperation skills, Coordination
skills and Organizational skills. Therefore, it becomes quite important that the development of
these skills can be ensured which will lead towards bringing an enhancement in own abilities so
that the personality development can be done and the desired level of improvements can be made
within the personality properly.

I have to make sure that I fulfill all the requirements which are essential for becoming
successful in the Adult Nurse Profession in U.K. I will be able to attain the wide range of goals
and objectives in the future in an appropriate manner. Therefore, I have to ensure that I can
manage out all the requirements related to this profession quite appropriately.
Skills required- It is important that the overall development of the skills can be done in a
right manner so that the personality development can be done quite appropriately. Thus, it is
quite crucial that the skill development is done for better personality development in the future
(Long, 2019). The skills which will be required for this purpose are explained as follows-
 Teamwork skills- It is important to ensure the use of teamwork in a right way because in
nursing profession it is necessary the cooperation and coordination with the healthcare
workers can be done effectively and efficiently so that the needs and requirements of the
patients can be fulfilled (Owusu-Kwarteng, 2019). I will need to develop these skills so
that I can work as a part of the team in the hospital and can take better care of the
patients.
 Cooperation skills- It is crucial that the use of cooperation can be done in a proper
manner because in nursing there is a requirement of cooperating with the other staff
members so that the better actions can be taken for taking the best possible care of the
patients.
 Coordination skills- It is important that the use of coordination can be made in an
effective manner because in nursing there is a requirement of coordinating with the staff
members of the hospital which will help in completing the tasks which have been given
and ensuring that the best care of the patients can be taken.
 Organizational skills- It is quite important that the organizational skills can be used so
that the management within an organization can be used appropriately in the right
manner. Therefore, it is crucial that the development of these skills can be ensured so that
the right actions can be taken at a right time and the efficiency and effectiveness level can
be enhanced in a proper manner.
Thus, it becomes important that I make use of methods and techniques which can help me
a lot in the skill development. This will help me in ensuring that I am able to enhance my
overall skills and competencies in a better manner and thus ensure that their use can be
made as and when required according to the needs and requirements.
Reflection- I have to make sure that I can develop all the skills and abilities in myself
which will help me in becoming Adult Nurse in the future. Therefore, it is quite
important that I am able to develop these skills and abilities in a better manner so that I
can develop my personality quite effectively and efficiently in a right way. Thus, I can
state that through a better use of reflection I can make sure that I can attain my short-
term, medium-term and long-term goals and objectives in the future.

For this purpose, I will undertake skill development sessions in my university which will
help me in enhancing my overall skills in a better way for becoming an Adult Nurse.
Further, I will also aim for enhancing my knowledge in a better manner which will be
helpful in ensuring that the application of knowledge can be made appropriately so that
the attainment of the future goals and objectives can be done by using a right approach.
Therefore, it is important that I am able to bring an improvement in myself so that I am
able to ensure that I can attain my own goals and objectives in the future. I will be able to
develop myself so that I can become successful in the field of healthcare in a right way.
In this way, I will be able to contribute to the best of my skills and abilities.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that Academic Reflection refers to the ability
to provide views in detail on a specific topic. It is thus quite important that the use of Reflection
can be made in a proper manner so that the attainment of the short-term, medium-term and long-
term goals and objectives in the future can be done quite appropriately. Thus, in this way it can
be said that the Personal and Professional development in the Academic field can be done so that
the development of skills and competencies which are required for the future can be done.
