TASK 2
What category of abuse is placing the person at most risk?
Gregor is placing with an abuse of psychological or emotional abuse. This abuse is related
with the mental and emotional dis-balance with the coming in approach to such words that can
affect the mental and emotional trauma. As number of rumours with regard to Gregor is taking
place including calling of police, rumours related with its marriage and many others. These will
put a psychological impact over the mental health of Gregor. It can be seen in case study that
Gregor’s said that he is tired of everyone getting on him and talking about his weight. Moreover,
he said nurses also makes holes in him. Hence, this is clearly evidence of emotional or
psychological abuse. This is abuse being done as people make fun of his weight.
This category of abuse is placing Mr Gregor at risk because it is impacting Mr Gregor with
regard to its mental health (Lonbay, and Brandon, 2017). As psychological abuse is having a
direct impact over the physical action and life of an individual so facing this emotional abuse is
having a direct impact over the health of Gregor. Being a patient of diabetes and with a follower
of hectic schedule of 4.30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and existence of such mental and psychological abuse
will lead to a creation of major health impact over Gregor. Such abuse is counted as major crime
with regard to Domestic Violence law. As under this law it is a crime to mentally abuse someone
that may put mental stress and pressure. The law defines behaviour of person if he or she is
involved in any type of abuse such as sexual, physical, emotional, etc. The law is applicable to
people who are above age of 16 or there is any relationship with each other.
There are certain interventions which can be applied to reduce emotional abuse. In this
case the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based interventions is given on basis of one to one,
with help of a therapist who works in clinic. The clinical psychologist can identify behaviour of
Gregor’s. Here, thinking patterns of behaviour is recognising to find out problem faced by
person. Similarly, in this case also CBT intervention can be used for that. This will help in
finding out abuse. The benefit of CBT is that it helps in engaging with person (Montgomery. and
McKee, 2017). Also, it is a centred approach and focus on one’s emotion and thoughts that how
they feel or behave. Another benefit is that depression or anxiety problem is treated in effective
way with CBT. But difficulty in this is due to its structure the intervention is not suitable for
people having complicated mental health issues or behaviour. Hence, in this case as well CBT
1

intervention can be applied. It will help in stopping risk emotional abuse being faced by
Gregor’s. But it is difficult to get engage with him so this is challenge to apply CBT intervention.
TASK 3
Rationale for assessment of Gregor’s mental capacity and implications of decision
It is necessary to do assessment of Gregor’s mental state so that it becomes easy to find
out what are the risk which can occur. Besides that, the main reason for doing assessment is to
identify risk of abuse that Gregor’s may face and how it can impact on his mental state.
Moreover, it is being found that Gregor’s behaviour is also disturbing. He sometime calls police
if children misbehave. This is major risk which can led to problem. Here, the children or police
can misbehave with him or they can abuse Gregor’s as he is facing learning disabilities and not
able to recognise what is being done around them. The mental state is not stable which can result
in abusing of him. If a person is at risk then he or she does not understand that what can occur.
Alongside, there is no one in his family who understand or support him. Even when he goes to
play gambling machine anyone can misbehave with him. Another things is that Gregor’s thinks
that he is going to marry someone from abroad. This behaviour is clearly a sign of concern for
him and it shows instable mental capacity (Penhale, 2020). Moreover, his GP has also said that
Gregor’s is facing some mental health issues. Besides that, he is not taking his medications
properly. Hence, such signs in behaviour shows that Gregor’s is at risk. He is not able to think
properly.
This assessment will impact on future work if person is a risk. It is because it will help
me to conduct risk assessment of Gregor’s and then on basis of that providing them care. Besides
that it will help me to take corrective actions and measures by which I will be able to maintain
and mitigate risk which can occur. Moreover, with help of assessment I can work in effective
way with Gregor’s. I can coordinate with him and also ensure that he is safe from all types of
risks.
I can also evaluate what types of risks can occur and on basis of that provide a safe
environment. In future as well I will ensure that Gregor’s is not at risk of any type of abuse. This
will help me to make a strong relation with him. In this way I can observe behaviour of him and
take feedback regarding how abuse risk can be minimised. Hence, when there is any risk as well
than Gregor’s will communicate with me and give details about what can be done. So, in step by
step way in future I can ensure that all types of risk is determined and then mitigated. Besides
