Impression management (IM) is a goal-oriented conscious or unconscious attempt
for influencing the perceptions and beliefs of the surrounded people (Eunson, 2017).
IM is attempted for a person, event or object through controlling and regulating
information within the social interactions. In other words, IM is a term which is used
to define the procedure through which people, as well as organizations, attempt to
influence others’ perception or thinking of them (Eunson, 2017). In addition, IM is the
process of how an individual creates a favourable impression while evaluating and
perceiving others based on:
Their body language
General behaviour and manners
Dress, hairstyle, and make-up
In this way, it can be said that IM is a process of portraying oneself to others in a way
that leaves the desired impression on them (Eunson, 2017).
