Report
AI Summary
This report outlines a comprehensive network design plan for the Advanced Digital Computer (ADC) organization, which includes a headquarters and several branch offices. The report begins with an executive summary and introduction, detailing the organization's current and future network expansion plans. It recommends 100 Mbps Ethernet as the primary network media, discussing its advantages and various applications within the network, including access, distribution, and core layers. The report provides detailed IPv4 and IPv6 addressing schemes for each subnet, including head office, branch offices, and WAN connections. It then specifies the networking hardware requirements, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, along with their functionalities and quantities needed for each location, including VPN configurations. The report proposes a hierarchical network topology for the head office and branch offices, with mesh topology for smaller home offices, explaining the benefits of each. Finally, it discusses the type of internet access, recommending a wireless network with the organization's own DNS server for cost-effectiveness and control. The report concludes with a list of references used in the design.

Executive Summary
Wireless local area network (WLAN) has turned out to be progressively well known in the field
of computing industry. The innovation, with the development of cross merchant industry
guidelines has turned into various prominent as well as cost effective remote solution for
Advanced Digital Computer organization. In this paper some efforts has been made to WLAN in
small budget. (Deep, G. & Dr. Kush, A., 2010). Transmitting secured, affirmed remote
framework is a business challenge, the prerequisite of that is to adjust client flexibility with
security. Remote development offers customers versatility and flexibility and allow the
organization to grow effectiveness while minimizing framework foundation costs. This paper
depicts the challenges related with planning WLAN. In this paper, we will discuss about network
media, IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, servers, printers etc for ADC organization. (Avaya Inc., 2011).

Introduction
The Advanced Digital Computer organization is just started having Head Quarters working in
the city, and with branches in Parramatta, Hornsby and Sutherland. It also operates with two
small home offices that are in Bankstown and Epping. These branch offices are connected to
head office by means of WAN by having Internet access at each office. They are planning to
reconstruct its network to take into consideration a normal 100% extension throughout the
coming 5 years. They will have same number of branch offices in next five years but they are
expecting to have increased number of staff in another five years. The server room will have 4
servers that are sufficient according to the requirement for future use. Being designated as
network consultant, my duty is to design network plan for Advanced Digital Computer
organization.
Network Media
I recommend 100 Mbps Ethernet for Advanced Digital Computer organization. Ethernet is the
most broadly utilized LAN technology. 100-Mbps Fast Ethernet is the type of Ethernet that can
be utilized for high-transfer speed devouring customers or servers. An Ethernet LAN is precisely
provisioned to meet data transfer speed prerequisites with better components that include NICs,
cables as well as internetworking devices that can meet the most stringent demands for
accessibility. By utilizing the suitable Ethernet availability that can provide vital speed to the
parts of the system with very reasonable expenses. WLAN 802.11 also possess some security
protocols that were produced to give better security from that of a wired LAN. (Oppenheimer, P.,
2010).
Ethernet technology can be used in many ways:
1. Ethernet speed of 10 Mbps will be utilized at the access layer to give better access to clients.
Also, 100-Mbps Fast Ethernet can be utilized for high-data transfer speed to clients or servers.

2. Gigabit Ethernet can be utilized as the connection between the access layer as well as
networking systems that can support the network traffic from Ethernet fragment on the access
interface.
3. In order to get better performance for client server model in the organization, and to maintain
a strategic distance from bottlenecks at the server, Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet connections
can be utilized to connect the servers. Fast Ethernet can be used to avoid slow network.
4. It can be used as the connection among distribution layer as well as the core.
It can be used between switches as the backbone of organization. (Mcquerry, S., 2004).

Networking Hardware Requirements
The different networking devices that are required for the usage procedure incorporates -
switches, routers, firewalls, etc. This list incorporates various devices such as configuring VPN
for the remote access. These devices should be tried before usage as they can set aside long lead
time for the output. Likewise VPN firewall should be installed in the middle of switch that
approaches the VPN and a switch that advances movement into the grounds framework. The
firewall must help Ethernet interfaces that are used as a part of the network. (Oppenheimer, P.,

2011). A switch or router associates with the modem through an Ethernet link and gives network
to different systems. As compared to switches, routers can enable us to interface two systems
together. In case of ADS, we can use VPN empowered switch to give a protected association
with those workplaces. Routers and switches with a DSU/CSU give T1 links to branch offices. It
has in build firewalls and propelled feature like Web filtering. (Steele, B., 2017).
Minimum one router will be required at each location. But as there are 125 hosts at head office, I
will propose five routers. For Chatswood, it will good if we use 3 routers and two routers will be
recommended for Leichhart branch office. So total of fourteen routers will be required. These
routers will connect with WAN. Switch can be used to make the network traffic at very fast
speed. One switch can be used at server room. The list of recommended hardware required for
setting network is given below:
NetGear Wifi Cable Modem Router - $120 (per piece)
Cisco Smart 24 port Switch - $420 (per piece)
Cisco SA540 firewall - $400 (at Head office server farm)
Network Topology
I would like to propose hierarchal topology for HO. Utilizing a hierarchical network topology it
can enable to limit costs. We can buy the suitable internetworking devices for each layer of the
hierarchy, avoiding expenses on pointless highlights for a layer. Additionally, the secluded idea
of the hierarchical model empowers exact scope organization inside each layer of the hierarchy
and it reduces squandered transmission capacity. System administration obligation and system
administration frameworks can be disseminated to the distinctive layers of network to control
administration costs. If adaptability is a noteworthy objective, hierarchical topology is prescribed

in light of the fact that seclusion in an outline empowers making plan components that can be
replicated as the system develops. Since each example of a module is reliable, and easy to design
and actualize. (Oppenheimer, P., 2010)
As there are 4 hosts at Bankstown home office and 2 hosts at Epping, mesh topology will be
better option. But in case of Chatswood and Leichhart with 52 and 25 hosts respectively,
hierarchical topology will be best.

Network design for Chatswood.
Type of Internet Access
Dependent upon the ISP and the associating development, diverse organizations are available
like virus checking, video on demand and data storage. The organization must pick ISP who can
give a speed of min. 1.5 Mbps or higher for using DSL advancement. ISPs must have the ability
to recognize and transfer information to end customers and diverse ISPs using an arrangement of
developments. Frameworks organization devices that are used as a part of ISP must be awesome
and quick devices with redundancies. ISP must consider the physical requirements, for instance,
control and also ventilating. (Reid, A. and Lorenz, J., n.d).
Wireless network will be best option for the organization. The organization can utilize their own
DNS server since it gives direct access to all systems administration devices and can be easily
consolidated into whatever structure the association will use to manage the customer's domain.

The association can set their own specific TTL values and different parameters. The association
can without much of a stretch keep up their updates at whatever point required. It can make cost
cheap. This administration can give quick, solid and better DNS that can access the domain
hosting and can also provide control settings. The DNS can provide faster access. (Patullo, K.,
n.d).
