INTRODUCTION
Dementia is one of the main disease or loss of cognitive functioning as it affects person’s
daily life and activities. This study is going to discuss importance of advocacy on the behalf of
person with dementia and impact on mental health of people.
Need to communicate with on the behalf of Bob
As a registered nurse, I have responsibility to take care of patients and make sure that they
are comfortable at all places and live with respect and dignity. In regard to Bob case, it can be
said that he requires close supervision and proper care as he has been for his accidental overdose
of pain medications as well as smoke inhalation. He has a confirmed diagnosis of dementia. So,
as a registered nurse, I want to make sure that Bob will be at safe place after discharge so, for
this reason I want to advocate to community nurse. The reason of advocating to community
nurse is improving well-being of people. I believe that community nurse plays a vital role in
improving health of people who are not able to take care of themselves (Pritty, De Boos and
Moghaddam, 2020). By referring or advocating to community nurse, I can make sure that Bob
will be at place where no one will discriminate him or everyone will treat him with dignity and
respect and it will have positive impact on his mental health and will protect him from severe
mental health condition.
In communication of advocacy I want to tell that one in 14-15 people over the age of 65
have dementia. Number of people with dementia in the UK is increasing and it is affecting their
mortality and well-being. People with dementia often become dependent to others that affects
living standard of people and other factors as well. It decreases employment rate that is not good
for economy and other people. So, on the basis of this statistics and reason, I want to advocate to
community nurse on the behalf of Bob and want to request to take care of him and educate him
so that he can perform his own work without help of others.
In addition, it is also found that dementia and mental illness is classified as a disability
under the equality act 2010. It means people with dementia are legally entitled to a level of
reasonable adjustments and other people discriminate them to certain level. It affects their mental
and physical health to the great extent. So, it is important for employers to make sure that
employees who have diagnosed with dementia are safe. It can make beneficial to both employers

and employees as well as country. So, for improving well-being and living standard of people,
community nurse needs to take care of Bob after his discharge.
CONCLUSION
It has been summarised that dementia affect mental health to the great extent and people
with dementia requires close supervision and extra care. Care with respect and dignity is all can
help them out in improving their health. It has further discussed other reasons as why people
with dementia require extra care and proper treatment.
