Introduction
In organization, people of different age group works together for the attainment of
common goals. Age discrimination is about differentiating the workforce based on their age
(Wang, Chen and Zhou, 2020). The present study aims to examine the impact of age difference
on the business performance and market image of UK retail industry. The present study is based
on ASDA that is a well-known company of UK. Along with the impact of age discrimination, the
study will also cover ways to overcome from the impact of age discrimination at workplace.
Research Aim:
To determine the impact of age discrimination of business performance as well as market image
of UK retail industry.
Research Objectives
To identify the types of discrimination occurred within retail industry of UK.
To examine the impact of age discrimination of business performance and market image
of ASDA.
To evaluate the ways that are used by ASDA to overcome from the impact of age
discrimination within workplace.
Research Questions
What are the types of discrimination occurred within retail industry of UK?
What is the impact of age discrimination of business performance and market image of
ASDA?
What are the ways that are used by ASDA to overcome from the impact of age
discrimination within workplace?
Methodology
In project work, research methodology is a crucial part that is related with the step by
step process of collecting, analyzing and interpretating the data. This part of research is useful in

terms of gathering useful piece of information within minimum time & efforts. In this context,
the steps of research methodology are mentioned below:
Research approach: It is one of the most crucial part of research work wherein the
theories are evaluated and analyzed so that pre-defined goals can be attained in an efficient
manner. It is classified in two categories like inductive and deductive (Staron, 2020). In context
of present project work, the researcher has been chosen deductive approach. The main rational
behind using the respective approach is use of numerical data to get adequate outcomes in the
future period of time. Here, investigator will be able to analyze the available information for
further betterment.
Research design: Research designs can be understood as the techniques that are used by
investigator for the completion of project work in timely manner. Here, design allows the
researcher to use appropriate methods for the success of research study. In this context, there are
numerous research designs can be used by researcher such as descriptive, experimental, co
relational and more. The present research study is based on descriptive research design as it is
helpful in developing detailed knowledge base regarding the particular topic.
Research methods: Research methods are considered as the most significant part of
research. It is associated with collecting necessary amount of information in a rightful manner.
Here, qualitative and quantitative are the two major methods of research. In quantitative method,
numerical tools & techniques are used to collect, interpret as well as evaluate the information.
On other side, qualitative methods are associated with using questionnaire, observation, survey
and other such techniques to gather detailed information from respondents (Kumar, 2018). In
context of the present research, quantitative method has been chosen as it is based on using
numerical techniques to get authentic results. In addition, it allows the investigator to get the
reliable results for the future betterment.
Participants: In research, sampling is an important technique. Through sampling, it is
possible to collect adequate number of units to represent the entire population in true and fair
manner. For this purpose, investigator is likely to use probability sampling where the units are
included in the sample randomly (Rodrigues and Rosa, 2019). This is helpful in conducting the
research in an authentic way. In context of the present study, 30 participants have been selected

through random sampling technique. These participants will represent the entire population in
true manner to get better results in the future period of time.
Ethical consideration:
While conducting a research, it is imperative to consider the ethics. There is requirement
to follow the ethical principles in order to get authentic results in significant manner. By
following ethics, it is possible to complete the study successfully. In this context, the major
principles are outlined below:
Respect for autonomy, privacy and dignity of individuals & community: To maintain
the autonomy, the information gathered from each and every respondents will be kept separately
(Robertson, 2021). In addition, all the units of sample will be treated equally in terms of
gathering the response and making conclusions. In addition to this, the researcher is likely to
treat every unit of sample equally and fairly.
Scientific integrity: Scientific integrity is about adhering professional values & practices
while conducting the research. In this context, the researcher is likely to maintain accuracy in
representation of contribution of reports and proposals in success of project work. In addition,
the peer review is likely to present in fair manner. Additionally, the researcher will follow
scientific interactions in terms of communication, sharing resources and more.
Social responsibility: The research needs to be conduct for social well-being. In current
context, the research work is based on the impact of gender discrimination (Lee, Lee and Nam,
2021). This research work will prove helpful in identifying suitable ways to minimize the issue
of gender discrimination within retail industry. In addition, this will make the researcher enable
in contributing the common good of society for better future.
Maximizing benefits and minimizing harms: The research work will prove helpful in
terms of minimizing the gender discrimination at workplace. Through this, all the employees can
easily receive equal opportunities of growth. In addition, it will reduce down the potential harm
and contribute in the overall well-being of society.
