Project
AI Summary
This project proposal outlines a plan to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data to enhance healthcare delivery, with a specific focus on improving care for senior citizens with chronic health conditions. The project aims to investigate the current state of healthcare provision, the application of big data and AI, and the potential of incorporating these technologies with the Internet of Things (IoT) to create smart healthcare devices. The research will address specific questions, such as the current development status of these technologies and their effectiveness in the Australian healthcare system. The proposal describes a novel remote healthcare delivery system designed to remotely monitor patients' health indicators using wearable devices, transmit data to a central database, and provide insights to caregivers. The proposed system will utilize IBM Blue Mix cloud platform and wearable devices. The expected outcome is a system for remote health care monitoring utilizing AI, cloud computing, and big data processing to capture, transmit patient data and enable caregivers to provide better care and monitor patients.

Project Introduction With health-care delivery becoming more expensive and staff shortages
persisting, new novel approaches are needed to improve health-care
delivery, especially with a growing population of senior citizens in the
developed world. Care givers are stretched and have to provide in-home
care to numerous persons while the elderly and unwell have to travel long
distances to reach care centers. The use of technology can help solve tis
problem, especially in monitoring and providing remote care to such
patients (Li et al., 2018). Among the UN Sustainable Development Goals
is the right to access quality health-care (Latif et al., 2017).
Main Objective and
Research Purpose
To investigate and understand the current state of health-care provision
among the elderly suffering from chronic diseases
To understand the concept of big data, the use of artificial intelligence
and how they work

PROJECT PROPOSAL: HOW AI AND BIG DATA CAN BE USED TO IMPROVE IN HEALTH-
CARE DELIVERY2
To establish how big data and AI can be incorporated in the IoT for the
provision of smart health-care devices and be used for augmenting
traditional health care remotely
To propose a novel system solution and architecture for using Big data,
AI and IoT in improving health-care delivery to senior citizens with
chronic health conditions
Specific Research
Questions
What is the current state of development and use of Big Data, AI, and IoT
technologies?
What is the current status of health-care delivery for senior citizens with
chronic medical conditions in Australia?
Can the use of Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and the IoT be
applied to improve health-care delivery for this population effectively
(remotely)?
Brief Description of
the Proposal
The project aims at proposing and designing, as well as testing a novel
remote health-care delivery system targeted at senior Australian citizens
suffering from chronic health conditions. These people have to sometimes
cover long distances to reach care centers and this becomes a painful
process for the elderly with conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, or
other chronic conditions. Further, there is a shortage of care givers to
adequately. Leveraging existing technologies, this research project
proposes to design a novel remote care model that uses big data, IoT, and
AI (Artificial Intelligence) to improve monitoring and effective low cost
health-care delivery. These technological developments mean that care
givers can remotely monitor patient data from wearable devices that
monitor they key health indicators and transmit this data over the Internet
to a central database (Nguyen Dang Tuan, Nguyen Thanh and Le Tuan,
2019; Pang et al., 2018). The data is then processed to provide useful
insights to care givers and also for policy makers, who then incorporate
AI technologies to automatically provide crucial information, such as the
need to change medication for patients (Chhowa et al., 2019). AI will also
provide care givers additional tools for effective and accurate decision
making, and help with making decisions (Taher et al., 2019). The

proposed system will be designed and then an experimental set up used to
test its functionality and efficacy, making use of IBM Blue Mix cloud
platform and wearable devices.
Expected Outcomes A novel system for remote health care monitoring using AI, cloud
computing, and big data processing to capture and transmit patient data
and information and enable care-givers provide better care and monitor
