Introduction
The following report is based on conducting the research project which considers various
research methodologies and approaches in conducting primary and secondary research. The
main aim of the assignment is to widen the understanding of the knowledge and increase the
capabilities to analysis the topic and conduct thorough research on it. The report is divided
into four main learning outcomes where the first learning outcome helps in finding the
appropriate methodologies and approaches. Second focus on conducting the research
methodology. Third marks the communication plans and outcomes of the research. At last
fourth section implies the application area of research methodologies and approaches.

Section One: Title, objective, responsibilities
The following research project is based on the impact of AI and the topic selected for the project is
“How do AI and machine learning contribute to the innovative use of technology e.g. robotics and
automotive transportation? This topic is going to serve as the research question and hence all report
helps in answering this question. The main objective of the project is to enhance the broad
understanding of knowledge by evaluating the strength and analysis capability of a student on a
particular topic. It aims at achieving the following learning outcomes: it helps to identify the
different research methodologies and approaches which are used for the primary and secondary
research. The main responsibilities which should be exhibited by the learner are to carry out the
research carefully and achieve all the learning outcomes designed for this assignment.
Section Two: Reasons for choosing this research project
With the growing technology and use of the Internet, advancement is happening in everyday routine

and artificial intelligence is the greatest invention done by human power. This technology is yet to
develop mature and hence impacted society in both positive and negative sense. AI and Machine
Learning has many tasks easy and brought tremendous changes in the working style, it is none
another than a machine exhibiting the properties of human thinking, behaviour and actions. But its
impact when integrating into our daily lives and workplace still need examination and analysis. So
Artificial intelligence becomes the hottest topic to be selected as the research project.
Section Three: Literature sources searched
According to Shabbir and Anwer, AI is the technology which is made up of machines and devices
that seek the environment and takes actions according to action provided and achieve the maximum
goals. In the paper, the author talks about the importance of the AI, its application area and various
AI tools which include predictive and machine learning. The various abilities of AI which the author
talks about are reasoning, natural Language Processing, Computer vision, Speech Recognition and
Synthesis, Knowledge Representation, Planning, Solving and etc. The author tries to explain all the
concept of AI with its evolution and challenges faced by the concept.
Section Four: Activities and timescales
Different activities and timescales for conducting the project are done with the help of Gantt chart
which is the scheduling tool used to represent different stages and activities involved in the project
with its duration period mentioning its start and end date. The below-given figure help to

Section Five: Research approach and methodologies
To conduct any research, it is very important that appropriate research methodology should be
chosen so that collected prove evidently to be true and based on the facts and artefacts. The research
methodology chosen for conducting primary and secondary research is qualitative and quantitative
which include literature review, surveys, questionnaires and etc.

There is two types of research conducted one Primary and other Secondary Research which is
described in details below:
Primary Research – It is a type of research which involves research conducted by oneself for
directly collecting data from the source. It is generally conducted to take reviews, opinions
and feedback from the customer. It is conducted on the raw data. It is also (Alvesson and
Sköldberg
, 2017) conducted to identify the impacted area, potential customer and gain a specific result.
It is focused on the target approaches which helps in providing better data interpretation
qualities. During the primary research, the data collected were of two types: Specific and
exploratory.
Exploratory – it is a type of research in which open-ended questions where asked which
usually takes a longer time.
Specific – It involved the formal set of questions and help to conduct interviews in very short
and little time. It is a more focused and precise form of research.
Examples of primary research are: Interviews, Focus groups, Case study, Surveys,
Questionnaires.
Secondary Research – It is the type of research which or it is a source of information which is
already been presented, gathered, organized. This type of research is easy to conduct,
quickens and more flexible with cost-effective benefits. In this research overall summary of
existing source of data and information. One of the benefits of research methodology is that it
is less time consuming than primary research. One of the drawbacks it holds is that it does not
authorizes the authenticity of the source and it keeps on changing with time and the stored
data becomes older which may affect the resulting research.
Examples of secondary research are as follows: a source of (Flick, 2015) data which are
present online or Internet, the data can also be collected from the government agencies,
public libraries and educational organisation, published journals and articles are also part of
secondary research.

Different approaches and methodologies have been evaluated in the above task P2. The
method which will be chosen for conducting this research project is both primary and
secondary research study because a single source will not be enough to draw any powerful
conclusion. Hence, it becomes very important to draw points and bulletins collected from
different sources to arrive at a particular conclusion taking into account the perspective from
every side.

Different analytical tools of artificial intelligence which can be applied are as follows.
 Virtual agents – It is the branch of artificial intelligence which helps in creating an agent
which is based on the computer coding and tools and can help to provide online
assistance and representative. One of the examples of virtual agents is Louise and
(Shabbir and Anwer, 2015) VirtuOz. The various task performed by them is having a
conversation with the client, answering questions to the user and perform good behaviour.
 Recognition of Speech – It is also the branch of AI which helps in recognising the voice
or speech exhibited by the humans. It converts or transforms the speech so that it can be
readily used by the application to perform any actions. Speech recognition has been used
in many applications of mobile, for example, Siri of Apple and Alexa of Amazon. They
are the proactive members of the voice system.
 Natural Language Generation – It is the application are of Artificial intelligence which is
capable of generating texts after extracting information from the computer data. This type
of application also helps in recognising the images and finding text on it. It is widely used
in report generation and customer services.
 Biometrics – It is the branch of the artificial intelligence which helps in recognising the
humans on the basis of behavioural as well (Li and Du, 2017) as the physical base. It is
generally been used in almost every organisation for security as well as marking the
presence of employment. Such type of application helps in identification and management
of security.
 Machine Learning – One of the greatest applications of artificial intelligence is machine
learning which is teaching a machine to behave and perform like a human without even
their interference is what it is called machine learning. It has been divided into many
fields like supervised machine learning etc. It helps in providing algorithms that have
been used for creating APIs and new application.
 Deep Learning – It is the branch of machine learning with the integration topics of
artificial intelligent which consist of the neural networks and made up of artificial
abstraction layers. It is mainly used in the recognition of the pattern and in classifying a
large amount of data into datasets.
 NLP –artificial intelligence helps the greatest hands in natural Language Processing. In
NLP, it facilitates the working and creation of the sentences and forming sentence
structure. The major use of NLP is greatly used in (Ashrafian, 2015) mining and in
providing human assistance in language processing. it is also used in detecting the fraud
and ensuring the security of the system.
 Robotics – As discuss it is the greatest invention of the humankind, making the machine
which is as capable as a human in all aspects from thinking to performing the task and
analysing the situation very critically and then arriving at any situation. Robots is nothing
a machine with programmable coding which is used to assist the humans and make tasks
very easy and quick.

Advantages of the approaches
 The approach described help in conducting the subject-oriented research and focuses
on the single topic one at a time.

 These approaches are the one which helps in managing the data and simplify to the
level to be used by the researcher without increasing the complexity or destroying the
contents.
 In such approaches, data complexities can be converted into desired conclusions.
Disadvantages/ Limitations of the approaches
 Ambiguities are the sometimes problems which are faced during the research
approaches.
 One of the main disadvantages of qualitative research is that the outcomes and
findings are not intended to be used by the wider section of the demographics.
 Data which exhibits the rigid nature are very difficult to understand and cannot be
demonstrated easily.

A stakeholder is the people who see the profit or have a keen interest in the project. They are
the people who can affect the projector which can be influenced by the project. To name a
few stakeholders can be company owner, director, supplier, government, project Manager,
staff, employee. The priority and authority power of stakeholders differ very greatly.
Stakeholders can be categorised in two parts external as well as internal stakeholders. The
one who belongs from within the organisation and have a role in investment, employment or
any kind of ownership then they are known to be internal stakeholder sometimes known as
primary stakeholders. External stakeholders are the people who (Kumar, 2019) are not from
the organisation and indirectly impacted by the organisation project and decision. External
stakeholders are also known as secondary stakeholders as they are not directly linked with the
company. Example of external stakeholder includes suppliers, customers, labour, agencies
and etc. It is very important to maintain the collaboration with both internal and external and
prioritize them according to the requirement of the project need. Stakeholder analysis is one
of the procedures which help to categorize the stakeholders according to their influence and
demand.
Communication Plan is the procedure which helps to communicate the information and the
maintain the sort of transmitting channel so that required information reaches to intended
stakeholder to take necessary actions and proceed with the further plans. It is very necessary
to have an effective communication plan for the successful completion of the project.
Communication plan helps in identifying the type of data which will be transferred further,
who will receive it and how many portions of information will be delivered. Many ways of
communication with stakeholders include via forms, conversation, face to face meetings,
interviews, online databases, status report, email, fax, telephonic calls, websites, messaging
chat, video and audio conferencing. There are different criteria (Flick, 2015) for delivering
information to stakeholders according to their authority power. Stakeholders having both high
interest as well as an influence will be informed about each and every detail and should be
communicated daily to give an update on the progress of the project. Stakeholders having low
interest but maintenance high influence should be informed once a week so that have an idea
of what is happening in the project. Then there are stakeholders who do not consist influence
nor interest they should be informed once in a while in between six months or when they are
needed.
The outcome of the following research methodology can be measured in terms of its various
advantages and disadvantages which are listed below:
Advantages of Artificial Intelligence
 AI systems have a very low rate of errors giving the characteristics of speed, precision
and accuracy.
 The use of AI will help in reducing the human efforts which are wasted in doing a
repetitive and laborious task which AI perform with the greatest ease and in a
comparatively very shorter duration of the time.

 It has a great mechanism to detect the fraud in the systems (Gunning, 2017) and point out
any glitch or error occurring which hinder the successful completion of the project.
 They help in arriving logical decisions and help in organising and managing the task and
activities.
 Applications of AI has provided assistance to human in many fields like surgeries,
military, organizations and etc.
 The working capacity of artificial intelligence is very great they do not require any time
of the break and can be easily extended to work for the very large duration.
 Continuous improvement and invention can be done with advancement level and
specification can be added to provide with the greatest results.
Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence.
 Data act as the fuel for Artificial Intelligence and it is very necessary to provide with the
great quality of the data and sometimes wait for a longer (Kumar, et.al, 2016) period for
the generations of new data.
 Cost of building search highly complex structure is very expensive even the assemblance
and instalment of any application cost a huge amount of the money.
 Artificial intelligence can try to exhibit behaviour like humans but never they can perform
and thinks as human do.
 Increasing the machines will decrease human employment and will cause lesser jobs and
unemployment.
 Definitely, it will complete our task in a shorter and faster manner but it will create a
sense of laziness and addiction in human behaviour.
 Machines work only when data is feed and hence reties on some other source to feed
which will decrease the authenticity and innovative thinking or creation of the system.
 One of the greatest disadvantages it has is it cannot learn with the experience which
means that experience cannot bring improvement (Witten, et al, 2016) or enhancement in
their performance.
 Machines can never have the common sense and it opens a chance to ask a question if it is
ethically right to replace the human workforce with the robots and machines.

The intended audience for the particular project will be the one who will be interested in
Artificial Intelligence and find the appropriate methodology which will benefit their business
or organization. Artificial intelligence has provided with the tremendous advantages and
benefits in almost every sector of the society and different stakeholders and people have
taken a keen interest in the project. One of the greatest features of AI is to perform and make
a decision like human and perform tasks very easily and in a lesser amount of time and
efforts. Hence all the possible outcomes of the project are listed in the above learning
outcome P5.
