AI Summary
This report examines the issue of air pollution and the actions implemented by the US government to reduce it, focusing on the Clean Air Act. The report highlights the significant reduction in common pollutants achieved through the Clean Air Act between 1970 and 2017. It discusses the EPA's role and collaborative efforts with various stakeholders to solve air pollution problems using technology and science. Despite continuous efforts, challenges such as conventional air pollution, climate change, and ozone layer depletion persist, hindering further progress. The report also mentions the revision of standards by the EPA for common contaminants to align with national air quality standards, aiming for more protective norms based on updated scientific evidence. For the present study, issue of air pollution is considered. In the current environment, the air
pollution is growing every day and has become a very big issue throughout the world. For
reducing the air pollution various actions have been implemented by government of USA
(Schnelle Jr, Dunn and Ternes, 2015). In this aspect, Clean Air Act has been introduced and as a
consequence to it there were drastic changes occurred in the environment as air pollution has
been reduced and it prevented thousands of life’s getting affected from severe health effects. As
per the survey of Manhan (2017), it was examined that through the implementation of Clean Air
Act, six common pollutants were dropped up to 73% between 1970 and 2017.
As of EPA and Clean Air Act multiple problems of air pollutions have been solved. The
programs that are carried for making solutions are based on latest technology and science. They
started working with state, tribunal and local governments, and various other federal agencies as
well as investors to overcome with the issue of air pollution and made an efforts to reduce the
damages caused by it.
In spite of continuous efforts have been make to control the air pollution there are various issues
hinders in between due to which Americans have to face various health and welfare problems.
Major challenges associated with the same are conventional air pollution, climate change and
ozone layer depletion (Devinny, Deshusses and Webster, 2017).
To cope up with the same, in the present phase standards were revised by the EPA for 5-6 usual
contaminants to match the national standards of air quality. The standards created move
protective norms for resolving the issue as new and analyzed facts indicates that available
standards are not appropriate for protecting the health and surroundings.
