Environmental sustainable work practice refers to the rates of continuous resource harvesting,
pollution creation and consumption of non-renewable resource which can be continued in
future. It is a state in which people will be able to fulfil their demand without hampering the
environmental recourses. We can also say that sustainable work practice help to reduce
wastage of recourses as well. The main policy is to give importance for protecting the
environment and should try to reduce the environmental impact of work practices that carried
out by the organisation itself & here the organization is an aircraft maintenance organization.
It is necessary to manage natural resources and ecosystems along with meeting people’s basic
requirements and other environmental, social and economic needs (Sharholy et. al, 2008).
Due to increasing climatic change, water scarcity and dispute over access to resources,
environmental sustainability is needed very much. The procedure of environmental
sustainable work practices includes reduction of waste by choosing eco friendly products for
aircraft maintenance organization that have minimal packaging and can also increased
productively and recyclable, use that type of goods which minimize waste production, re-use
of products & raw materials, reduce the volume of the harmful component by waste treatment
and dispose of the waste safely (Guerrero et. al, 2013).
Strategies that have been implemented by Manager and Supervisor of aircraft
maintenance organization
Development of environmental protection knowledge to aware employees about
environmental responsibilities.
Environment protecting issues should be considered at the time of making plans and
designs.
Improvement of environmental condition by identifying and addressing
environmental risk.
Considering new strategies in order to reduce waste & manage the resources such as
energy management, conservative use of materials and waste management etc. in a
proper manner.
Management of waste -
Waste management is the process of treating solid wastes which offers variety of solutions
for recycling items related to aircraft maintenance operations. We know about how garbage
can be used as valuable resources by the process of recycling. Leaning of Waste management

treatment is necessary for each & every organization in the world. In this waste management
process, disposal of the products and substances that already have been used number of times.
Waste can be solid, liquid, or gas and each have different methods of disposal in order to
manage. Waste management is important to reduce adverse effects of waste on health,
environment, and aesthetics. Waste management treatment is not always uniform in all
countries, regions, and sectors. A large portion of waste management practices deal
with mainly aircraft maintenance operation solid waste which is generated at the time of
operations. There are different methods of this kind of waste deposal.
Landfill- It is the most popular method of waste disposal. Landfill mainly found in
developing countries. The waste generated from aircraft maintenance organization which are
not suitable for recycling or incineration, are used for the landfill purpose.
Incineration – Another way of waste disposal is incineration. In this method municipality
solid wastes are burned at high temperatures to convert them into residue and gaseous
products. The advantage of this type of method is that it can reduce the volume of solid waste
20-30% of the original volume. The process is also known as thermal treatment.
Recovery and Recycling - This process of converting waste products into new products help
to prevent energy usage and consumption of fresh raw materials as well.
Centralized waste management – This procedure is considered one of the tidy procedure
which able to provide better options for the classification of the waste. It is also favourable in
terms of economic scale as well.

Waste to energy process - It involves conversion of non-recyclable waste items into useable
heat, electricity, or fuel through a variety of processes. It also helps to minimize carbon
emission.
Waste minimization – Most easy method of waste management treatment is to reduce
creation of waste materials. It can be done through recycling used materials instead of buying
new one, avoiding use of disposable products like plastics and reusing items.
Among all of this, currently our orgnisation chose the way of waste minimization & recycling
& recovering procedure.
2. Comply with environmental regulations
To maintain balance of environment we must follow environmental law, it is a collective
term which describes rules, act and regulations, common and customary laws addressing the
effects of human activity on the natural environment. Environmental protection act was
established in 1990 for the management of pollution from any kind of industrial processes
(Epstein and Buhovac, 2014).
The Environmental Protection Act deals with issues relating to waste on land, discussing all
aspects of waste management and places a duty on local authorities to collect waste. This act
includes Landfill directives which aim to reduce landfill as a disposal option. , Hazardous
waste regulation, which includes lesser use of hazardous substances that may harmful to
human health or the surrounding environment. Packing waste regulation its aim is to
increase the recovery and recycling of packaging waste in a progressive way, pre-treatment
of waste is requirement to prevent or reduce the negative effects on the environment. Aim is
to increase waste recycling and recovery. Use of electrical and electronic equipment
directives are also other way for waste treatment of an aircraft maintenance organization.
An organization should follow environmental act & they also have some specific rules &
regulation which should be maintained by the employees of the particular organization
otherwise, they should have to give penalties for breaking the rules of the company which
may be harmful for the environment or the organization also.
3. Seek opportunities to improve environmental practices and resource
efficiency

It is our basic duty to protect our environment. Environmental protection is necessary for
human health as well for our future generation also. Healthy environment provides clean
water, purify air, maintain the capacity of soil, regulate the climate, recycle nutrients and
provide us with food. They provide raw materials and resources in a constant manner for
many purposes. Environmental problems are increasing day by day. The problems are not
only related to the aircraft maintenance organization but also related to our social, political
and economic aspects, that’s why the study of environmental protection is very much
important. So we need to take care of our environment. Recycling of used products, an
informed choice of products, minimizing waste products, purchasing energy efficient
appliances, plant more trees and also support organization dedicated to sustainability can
promote sustainable environment.
