Introduction
Alcoholism is the addiction to the Alcohol. People who got addicted to the alcohol are
called the alcoholics. Malaysia is considered to be the 10th largest consumer of the
alcohol. It is a common issue nowadays and getting worse over time. Alcohol is a
disease which harms the body of the individual and can kill a person too. Around the
world, there are at least 208 million people who consume the alcohol on the daily
basis which is harming their body and leads to dying also. Drinking this type of drug
is not good for the health of the consumer. It can lead to the various problems rather
than the health issues (Sumpi & Amukugo, 2016).
Background of study
Being an alcoholic does not mean that the person drinks too much but it means that
they cannot have the limit of how much to drink. Consuming the alcohol has many
disadvantages. It can cause the brain damage, liver disease, cancer in the body etc.
The problems of depression in some person are found because of their regular
drinking habits. This will make them unconscious and they are not able to cope up
with the things. They also face difficulties in their social personal and work life. In
social life, alcoholic persons are not able to manage the relations with their loved
ones and may face disputes among them (Babayi & Arshad, 2015).
Discussion and implication
According to the Data from the World Health Organisation that overall 35% of males
and 64% of females abstain from alcohol. In their personal life, if a female is
consuming alcohol in extra quantity it will affect their health and can face the problem
at the time of pregnancy. As by consuming the alcohol leads to damage the womb of
mothers which will make the complications at the time of pregnancy and birth of a
child. The other issues are also faced consuming the alcohol is they have the weak
immune system which makes it complicated for the body to fight against the
diseases and other problem. Some people also face the problem of hormones in
their body due to the consumption of the alcohol and anxiety too (Hoffman,
Pinkleton, Weintraub, & Reyes, 2014).

In the record there are many deaths are found which are due to the excessive
consumption of the alcohol. Some people are also facing problem in managing their
work life. As drinking in the night makes the person frustrated in the morning which
also harnesses the performance in office and behavior too. The person is not
remaining in a condition to mug up all the things when he is consuming the alcohol.
In order to avoid the problems associated with the alcohol use, it is recommended
that people from abstaining to the safe consumption level which includes one drink
per day for the adult females and two drinks per day for adult males. This will able to
make the balance between the physiological and social life of the people living there
as they are not left the habit of drinking and also not getting affected by it (Rees,
Freng & Winfree, 2014).
It is a type of addiction which leads to the side of the social problems. These social
problems include the crime, delinquency, and poverty and pre-marital pregnancy.
The problems of poverty can also arise in some people lives. Alcohol is the addiction
which forces the people to take it regularly. Some people are found below the
poverty line which does not have the basic standard of living but they consume the
alcohol on the regular basis. The disease of alcohol is finding to be the reason for
some people to come below the line of poverty. Some people start selling their home
materials and assets to get the alcohol. This will make the people come below the
line of poverty (NSW Government, 2018).
Some people start doing the crime like theft or robbery to get the money for alcohol.
It is the type of addiction which makes people do anything which is not ethically and
lawfully right. In one of the recent article, it has been stated by the World Health
Organization that harmful use of an alcohol is a major contribution to the violence.
Alcohol use is also heavily at play within the world of crime including such violent
crimes such as rape, assault and battery and various other forms of abuse
(Andrews, & Bonta, 2014).
Recommendation
Some measures have to find out to reduce the impact of the alcohol on the public.
Various measures can be opted for downsizing the impact of the alcohol on the
human beings as it is harmful to them and society also. The development of

individual and country has been decreasing due to the consumption of the alcohol. If
the action is today against the consumption of alcohol then it will be made a great
future for the persons. The start of reducing the consumption should be done by
some organization which includes the Center for Mental Health and other rehab
centers in Malaysia and in other parts of the country (Solace Sabah, 2018).
Some strategies are choosing by to reduce the consumption of alcohol in Malaysia.
There is a group called the Alcoholics Anonymous in many parts of Malaysia. In this,
they provide the awareness to the people not to consume the alcohol as it is not
good for health. This fellowship uses the 12 step program to help the people not only
quit the addiction but also rebuild their living using the spiritual principles. Another
strategy used by the Malaysian people is that they leave the country for the
meditation and rehab therapy taken by them from the DARA Rehab. This rehab is
situated in Thailand and is considered to be the number one destination for
substance abuse help in (Asia DARA Thailand, 2018).
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it can be concluded that the consumption of alcohol in
Malaysia is very common and Malaysia is considered to be the 10th largest consumer
of alcohol in the world. The Consuming alcohol harnesses the body and body can
face various complications from it. This complication includes the hormonal
imbalance, heart attack, problem of cancer, lack of immunity to fight against the
disease etc. Due to the consumption of the alcohol, people of Malaysia are found
various problems in sustaining their social lives. The people living there start doing
the crime, facing the problem of poverty and delinquency. This entire problem
affecting the Malaysian people personal, social and work life and marinating the
balance between them is found difficult for them. In order to manage all these things,
Malaysian tries to reduce the consumption of alcohol to have a good life. For this,
they started reducing the consumption and start going to the rehab centers in
Thailand.
