Background:
Construction industry is immensely working to manage their limited resources to fulfil the
unlimited wants & needs of the stakeholders. The construction industry professionals
repetitively engage in planning, organizing, leading & controlling the different kind of situations
& scenarios to provide the best construction project output effectively & efficiently.
Further, according to Central Bank Annual report, in 2019, construction industry provides
employment for around 600,000 labour capacity & total annual construction turnover is about
Rs. 800 billion. Those statistics clearly shows that, the construction industry plays a major role
in the economic growth of Sri Lanka. Effective & efficient management of the resources is one
of the key aspects to drive success not only in the construction industry; but also, for the
overall national economy. Hence, the construction managers have a pivotal role to play not
only in considering the growth of construction industry, but also national economy.
As a potential scholar who is willing to join this significant & complex industry, one should have
a holistic understand about the construction practices and modern construction management
processes. Additionally, the historic development of the construction industry enabled
integrated construction processes and management styles to be implemented within the
construction industry. In order to have proper complete knowledge, one should have an in-
depth knowledge about the whole life cycle of the construction management process.
Scenario
You are a newly appointed assistant project coordinator who is working under supervision of
General Manager in Alpha Contractors Pvt. Ltd. Alpha Contractors Pvt. Ltd., is an upcoming
construction company, which is having a C-6 ICTAD grading. The Board of Directors requires a
review report of current status of the company.

Professionalism in construction is a combination of important derivative activities
of professionals. This is mainly related to their professional activities, such as; an
active demonstration of the characteristics of professionals, the level of
professionalism can also be assessed how successful you are in your job and
further, it can be determined as the point of view of others on you and to what

extent you are also developed.
The history of professionalism has been shown since the beginning of civilization
in this world, however it refers to the construction sector, professionalism shows
itself in the first phase of WWII in 1942, if we consider the records set by the 5th
United States Command Shipbuilding Battalion Throughout history, this battalion
has earned a reputation for excellence and professionalism over the 54 years of its
existence. They also built airstrips, hospitals, bridges, roads, and provided
humanitarian and relief aid to almost all parts of the world. The last two decades
have seen faster changes than any other period in history, including both the Industrial
Revolution and the post-war period. The construction industry today is booming, from
digital reporting and 3D imaging systems to smart construction software and drone
technology.
The construction industry has made a significant contribution to improving
business infrastructure (Wood et al., 2016). Today, with the help of many
engineers, architects, architects, surveyors and many others, organizations
working in this field are profiting from the production of efficient infrastructure to
improve the standard of living of people (Hairul Bahara et al ., 2016). In this
regard, in the construction sector, employers used to create a real team of
professionals, including project managers, engineers, and technicians, skilled,

There are few entry-level professionals in the company known as architects,
drawing owners, civil engineers, structural engineers, automation engineers,

relevant authorities, a construction project is ready to be implemented. After
meeting the above criteria for setting up a project, the client will refer to a general
contractor or architect to complete the project.

organization to take on a proposed project. Its policy will dictate how the project
life cycle is divided between organizations and which professionals should be
involved. The decisions of the owner's senior management will also influence the
organization to be made to manage the project.
Among the benefits of working together with all three parties is the ability to work
more efficiently and effectively, eliminating the need for one person to take on
everything. The more people work on a project, the more time it saves. And as
they begin to do the same tasks overtime, they become more specialized and the
experience they gain will be better than what they do. This allows the productivity
that can be generated to enable the company to make more profits and expand to
grow with the market.
