Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment explores Alzheimer's disease, focusing on its pathology, symptoms, and the essential nursing care required. It begins by examining the disease's underlying mechanisms, including the roles of beta-amyloid deposits, neurofibrillary tangles, and prion disease, and their impact on neuronal function, leading to cognitive decline and memory loss. The assignment then delves into the practical aspects of nursing care, emphasizing the importance of nutrition and diet in managing the disease. Specifically, it highlights the need for a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy, while also advising against high-fat, high-cholesterol foods, excessive sugar, and salt. The importance of adequate fluid intake, including water and other beverages, is also stressed. This assignment provides a concise overview of the disease and its management, offering valuable insights for healthcare professionals and students alike.

Question 1
Explaining of how pathology of disease relate to symptoms
Alzheimer is a common disease which usually occurs in old age people. In this symptoms
include difficulty in language and problem, memory loss, confusion, etc. basically,
pathophysiology means process which is related to disorder or injury (Mathys and Martorell
2019). So, in this it is studied that what are changes occurred in functions which led to causes of
symptoms in Alzheimer. Hence, there are 2 pathologic symbol of Alzheimer which are described
as below :
Extra cellular beta amyloid deposit
Intra cellular neurofibrillary tangles.
So, these both led to loss of synapse and neurons. Thus, it result in gross atrphy of area
which is affected in brain. This usually relate to mesial temporal lobe. Along with it, there are
various other theories of pathology of disease which is described as below :
Amyloid hypothesis state that liberal build-up of beta amyloid in brain activate flow of
event in neuronal cell death. Due to it there is loss of neuronal synpses and deficits in neuro
transmitter. So, this led to developing symptoms of Alzheimer.
Another theory is that in prion disease normal cell surface brain protein known as prion
protein become misfold. This forms a pathogenic form prion. So, this prion cause other to
misfold in same way. Due to it, abnormal protein increases in brain resulting in damage.
Therefore, it led to developing symptoms of Alzheimer.
Question 2
Aspect of nursing with Alzheimer disease
The patient suffering from Alzheimer should be given effective and relevant nursing care.
However, the type of nursing care depends on disease (Weller and Budson 2018). Thus, in
context of Alzheimer, nutrition and feeding is nursing care to be given. In this it is important to
maintain a nutritious and heavy diet. In that the patient is required to eat variety of fruits and
vegetables such as whole grains, low fat diary food, etc. Apart from it, there is need to keep a
healthy weight and do a lot of exercise to keep mental and physical health stable. Alongside,
there should not be intake of high fat and cholesterol in it. For instance- meat, chicken and fried
foods. Also, sugar intake must be reduced in it as well and also salt. The patient is required to
drink plenty of water to recover from Alzheimer. The fluid such as juice, milkshake, etc. can also

be given. It requires to prepare and eat a balanced diet by including variety of foods and
vegetables in it. Thus, it require for nurse to focus on nutrition so that mental and physical health
is maintained.
