2ETHICS – THE CASE OF AMANDA TODD AND ANONYMOUS PART 2
Introduction
In the case where Amanda Todd had taken her life due to extensive bullying online
tarnishing her image and maligning her moral values is the question of various ethical issues
presented one after another (Mhiripiri & Chari, 2017). This is why in the following report it
would be justified if there are specific reasons for considering the case as a legally
prosecutable one, under the "conspiracy to commit harm, or defame".
Reasons to consider this case as a legally prosecutable one under “conspiracy to
commit harm, or defame”
As per personal discretion there are justified ways to consider this case of
cyberbullying as a legally prosecutable one under the "conspiracy to commit harm, or
defame". Although it can be said that the case is a very complex one containing multiple
layers, it should also be noted that the risks of moral panic in media reporting and vigilante
justice facilitated by internet connected digital media is also a matter to look about in this
case.
In the digital age that the millennials are living in right now, it is very easy to be
offended about an action and in the same way the number of people using the internet
maximizes the problem further (Campbell, Martin & Fabos, 2018). When the cyberbully
could not get Amanda follow their instructions after finding her compromising photos, they
threatened her of posting the same photos online. When Amanda still did not choose to listen
to the cyber bullies, they committed harm to the image of Amanda by posting those photos
online. Therefore, this in that can be regarded as the intention of causing harm to somebody
with the help of intense conspiracy. the continued behaving in the same attitude with Amanda

and demanded more explicit actions from her to be provided to them online in exchange of
her image over the internet.
The cyber bullies only intended to cause mental harm by threatening her with
tarnishing her reputation online with exchange of her dignity. Therefore, it can be clearly
stated that, this indeed is a case to legally prosecute as the anonymous bullies had resulted all
the peers of Amanda to defame her when they found her compromising photo online (Ess,
2013). Since, the cyber bullies we are not aware that Amanda is a person who would not let
her dignity go away online at the drop of a hat, they conspired against her to forcefully make
her follow the instructions in further defaming or tarnishing her own image. Morally, this has
been extremely excruciating for Amanda to bear with and she decided to add her life. this is
essentially a case where the people who made Amanda go through self-harm and finally
suicide, are worthy of getting prosecuted for their actions.
Methods to decide the charges
The first and foremost method that would be it taken to decide the charges would be
the video evidence of Amanda that she had posted online on YouTube describing her
situation. As per the legislative measures, video evidences of a person who has committed
suicide is a high importance is there regarded as the rawest state of mind of a person who are
going to end their lives (Dube, 2017).
Next the investigation department can look for clearing out the anonymity of the
cyber bullies and should also press charges to all the people who have chided Amanda online,
including her fellow students and peers who could have supported her. In this way the
charges can be pressed.
