INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this assignment is to focus on the scope of human resource management and its
importance and principle which plays an important role at Amazon.com to fulfil the objective.
Amazon.com is a UK based public company and was founded on 28th May 1996 (Kristensen,
2017). The mission of human resource management is to acquire, develop and keep back talent
of employees putting in an order at workforce with the organization (Bratton and Gold, 2017).
This assignment includes the responsibilities of HR and functions by focusing on skills and talent
of an employee, selection and recruitment approach with its strengths and weaknesses which
are suitable for business objective as well as the elements of HRM. This will also focus on the
human resource keep in sighting on the employers and employees practices within the
organization and highlighting the key aspects of employment legislation at the organization and
the working practices for a flexible business environment. This will analyze the relationship of
an employee with respect to influencing the decision making of HRM by focusing on the impact
of internal and external factors.

INTRODUCTION
As an assistant to the human resource manager at Amazon, Human resource management is a
formal system of management which is responsible for managing organizational resources and
the employees of the organization (Collings, 2018). The human resource manager has the
responsibility of staffing, recruiting, designing and defining work, employee's benefits and
compensation which is benefited to the organization and help in maximizing the company's
profit and productivity by working efficiently and effectively for achieving the business objective
(Saxena and Kothari, 2015).
1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AT AMAZON
The basic function of human resource management is to develop coordination between
management and employees to achieve the organizational objectives (Brewster, 2016). HRM
focuses on employee's satisfaction and their requirements by focusing on the internal
environment rather than an external environment by using people, technology and processes.

Staff recruiting
This is the process of recruiting a suitable employee for the working environment to work
effectively for achieving the business objectives. Staffing includes creating the announcement of
positions to the employees and identifying their job duties based on their skills, knowledge and
requirements for that particular position (Source Brewster, 2016).
Remuneration
Human resource department focuses on giving fair payment to the employees by evaluating
and changing the organizational payment system by analyzing the remuneration trend. This
department also accesses policies according to the legal, federal, local and state laws with
regards to remuneration with due respect of Fair Labor Standard Act.
Benefits
The program of recruitment and retention tools used by the organization for employees benefit
and development administers effectively (Chowhan, 2016). Such benefits of a job include
retirement plan, dental insurance, and health insurance and are researched and analyzed by
the human resource personnel to obtain the information regarding best packages which
minimize the cost for the employer and sufficient coverage to employees for these benefits.
Performance appraisal
The main function of the human resource department is to evaluate the employee's
performance and responsible for the whole performance appraisal process. This is an effective
process which is straight forward and simple. Performance appraisals can be given as
promotion, termination and retention if properly executed and on the other hand, it brings
legal action when these appraisals executed improperly (Chowhan, 2016).

Under this law, the company pays more attention towards employee's safety and health care
and is responsible for their treatment. According to the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) US, 20-40% can be reduced cost arise from the illness and injury of an

organization. Amazon HR managers give focus on employee's motivation and develop their
efficiency to work for them.

According to the workforce planning, it is a continuous process which Amazon needs to identify
and analyze the need of the organization on the basis of quality, size and type to achieve the
objectives. It regulates the management with a mix-up of knowledge, skills and experience
required for selecting the right person at the right place. It includes a corporation of employees
as well as the government for working effectively for the organization’s productivity and profit
(Sturman and Park, 2016).
The process of selection at Amazon is based on 2 types of approaches for recruitment at the
workplace that is internal as well as external recruitment.
Internal Recruitment
This involves the recruitment process of working people at Amazon by giving promotion or
transfer of job within the organization. This internal recruitment is cost-effective and easy to
get implemented within the organization (Shields, 2015). Here employees are fully trained and
motivated so this eliminates the training and development cost as employees at Amazon are
dedicated towards their work for achieving the goal (DeVaro, 2016).

selection process, the Human resource manager provides training and development program
for improving and increasing employee capacity of doing work at Amazon. Employee
performance appraisal is important for motivating them to do work effectively and efficiently to
achieve the objectives.
