Introduction
The American Revolution, which took place between 1765 and 1783, was the historic
colonial revolt by the American patriots, for independence from the British Colonial rule. The
American patriots won against the immensely strong British army, owing to the strategic
framework of the former and the dedication to the cause. However, there were several
comparative advantages of both the British and American militaries in the concerned revolution
(Alden).
Relative advantages of both the sides
One of the comparative advantages of the British side was their military force, which
with advanced equipments, high payment, discipline and abundant funding, seemed unbeatable
at that time. The army and the navy of Britain enjoyed triumph over almost all the mighty
nations including Spain and France for a century. The funding received by the Americans, on
the other hand, were scanty and were often insufficient to meet even the basic needs of the
military.
The Americans, however, has a huge advantage over the British, which was the strategic
advantage of the location. For the British, the war was not fought on the home ground, which
forced them to send military troops and ammunitions, which took months to reach the war
ground. The Americans however, did not have that problem (Ushistory.org). Also the Americans
had a greater cause for the war as they were fighting for their rights and freedom, against the
British cause of denying independence to the Americans. This helped the Americans to earn
many sympathizers in the British Parliament also. The Americans also earned the support of
French people which helped them win over the British (Washington and Army).

George Washington and his winning strategies
George Washington was on the forefront of the American Revolution and much of the
credits of the victory of the resource and skill lacking Americans over the strong British army
can be attributed to his strategic moves and skills. One of the strategies of Washington, which
proved to be beneficial, was his recruiting process, the action plans and his all along presence in
every situation, which motivated the American military. He prioritized the creation of an
efficient army with proper training (Raphael). He took help of the concept of the “Myth of the
voluntary militia” and used his immense influence and personality to attract and motivate even
the doubtful recruits for achieving the goals. One of the war strategies taken by him was
avoidance of direct confrontation with the immensely powerful British army. He kept on winning
small battles, surprising the opponents and convinced the French military to support the
Americans, which strengthen their stand against the British military, thereby increasing their
probabilities of victory against the British military.
