Part A
Amgen Inc. have partnered with multiple innovators with the goal of combating any serious
disease that come across. The partnership have different stakeholders that provide different
medical services. For example, scientific partners, financial partners among other teams. From
the Amgen partnership it is evident that they aim at business development. From the description,
Amgen is ready to accommodate other innovators that aims at solving client’s problems.
According to Lewiecki et al, (2019), it is evident that alliance management has been one of the
key strategies that Amgen have used to ensure that their partnerships succeed. The corporation
have a unique partnership structure. Every partner have specific functions that they must meet
while promoting Amgen partnership. Apart from that, there is a clear communication structure in
the company. Clear communication mechanism enable them to identify the real opportunities
that they should set fund to facilitate. Parnes & Griffiths, (2018) stated that Amgen alliance is
very innovative in areas that they invest their funds. They ensure that the innovative
biotechnology industries have adequate resources in spearheading discoveries related to human
therapeutics. The companies have come up with different technologies and medicines that
address the patient’s needs. The alliance make it easy to treat patients with serious illnesses due
to massive technology in the company.
On the other hand, Amgen have also developed a wing responsible for external innovations there
is the external product group in Amgen alliance that does the partnership and licensing of other
innovations. It means a great organization in the industry that analyzes all the therapeutic fields
that the company can invest while serving the patients. However, integration is also important in
every venture. For instance, when a company want to transit to Amgen, there must be a clear
process to be followed Amgen have an integration team that facilitate the whole process.

Part B
With the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, my expectation is that the weight of employee
relations in Amgen. With dramatically fall. One of the reasons to my expectations is that Amgen
like any other company is reducing the interaction between people. In a way to manage the
spread of Corona virus, Everett et al, (2020) states that Amgen will require most of their
employees to operate from home. The relationship between employer and the employees will
reduce. For example, Amgen will reduce the doctor patient interactions. Patients are also scared
of the virus thus the company is registering few daily visits to the company according to Seo et
al, (2018). It means that the Amgen Inc. sales will fall. Therefore, if the need be, the employees
will have to take pay cuts in response to low sale. The move might also worsen the weight of
employee relations in the company. The end of COVID-19 pandemic is still unpredictable,
however, if it persist for long some staff members might be sent home without salary. It will be
difficult to continue paying some people when they do not work. It is hard economic time which
will also affect the relations between employer and employees. When one is laid off, it leads to
weaker relationships with the company.
