ANA CODES
Introduction
Maintaining ethical standards while on duty is one of the core values in nursing according to
Gurney et al, (2017). The field of nursing illustrate the concerns of the vulnerable, the injured
and the sick in the society. These concerns binds the nurses while they are delivering their
services. However, Olson & Stokes, (2016) said that when one is joining the nursing field, he or
she is expected to abide by the moral norms that are outlined in the nursing profession. One of
the bodies that outlines the ethics is the American Nurses Association (ANA). The code of ethics
from these groups have a specific obligation, values and goals.
What I have learned from completing the ANA ethics
After successful completion of the ANA ethical codes, I have learned several things related to
code of conduct for nurses. One of the main lessons is that the ANA code of conduct consist of
ethical guidelines aimed at guiding nurses on how to deliver their services. They apply these
codes when making critical decisions while providing care to patients both the relatives and the
non-relatives. Besides providing the guidelines, these code of conducts also help a nurse to solve
a diverse ethical issue when he or she encounters the situation. The approach improves one
decision making capability and the ability to serve different environments.
There are also values that a nurse should maintain while delivering the nursing services. The first
thing is that, the code of ethics are non-negotiable in the nursing field and its shows a level of
understanding and commitment to what a nurse is doing. Going through the modules have
expanded the knowledge I had concerning ethics of nursing. Initially, I had multiple dilemmas
concerning the conduct of nurses, however learning these ethics have solved the doubts. I
understand what the society expect from me as an experienced nurse. There are a lot of benefits

of holding to the values as a practicing nurse according to Tluczek et al, (2019). Apart from that,
after completing the modules I was in a position to understand the alternative ways of addressing
various situations.
How I will use the information to be successful in my next practicum course
One of the first thing I plan to do after completing the modules is that, I will maintain moral
values no matter the scenario. By maintaining the standards, it shows clearly that am a nurse who
is responsible and care for the patients. Secondly, I will always maintain a positive attitude in my
next career level. Positive attitude will assist me to learn more and embrace others. I will be able
to preserve my positive character in my call of service. Lastly I plan to maintain the agreement
that I promised to adhere to during my call of service.
The importance of clear and transparent communication
Clear communication ensures that one understand his or her role. Apart from that one can ask for
assistance where there is doubt according to Wentworth, Dorfman & Taddeo, (2019). It maintain
trust between the communicating parties. One is able to tell the truth and the other party can also
offer solution where there is misunderstanding.
