Common Problems in American Society
Common problems that have been highlighted include the discrimination on the basis of
race. The discriminated communities have been oppressed and denied much of their rights.
Education has also been stated as a problem where it is being offered selectively. Education
being offered concentrates more on grades and academics that it leaves out the part of letting one
to know the history and discover oneself. Non-inclusive democracy has also been stated as a
problem in the American society by the three documents.
Differences in These Problems
The problems highlighted in document 7 dwells much on rebuilding America back to its
glory times. The document does that by highlighting; historical issues, the ever worsening
education system, poor politics leading to bad policies and non-participatory democracy (Huron).
Document 8 dwells much on the historical injustices the black community have been exposed to.
This document seeks to improve on the living conditions of the black people only in any way
possible (Newton). Document 9 states the problems suffered by the agribusiness employees
which cover a less population than problems expressed by the document 7. Solutions to the
problems being faced by workers in agribusiness are more straightforward than those suggested
by the first two documents (Chavez).

Roles Suggested by Documents in Achieving Social Justice
Document 7 suggests that for justice to be achieved, participatory democracy must be put
in place which will change the whole concept of politics to become more positive. Human
independence is also suggested as the main goal on finding a meaning of life that is authentic.
Establishment of channels that would relate men to power and knowledge. This will in turn
change the perspective of monetary gain to more of social responsibility acceptance. Abolish
violence and develop institutions that encourage non-violent means of conflict resolution
(Huron). Document 8 suggests that the political bands be dissolved and in turn be subject to the
laws of nature which are God given. It also suggests the respect of opinions of every human. The
documents also suggests that the government should be instituted by the citizens on principles
upon which they are broken, the government needs to be dissolved and another one formed by
the same people (Newton). Document 9 suggests that social justice can be achieved when the
union representing the workers and those being represented by Mr. Barr sit down and come up
with a solution. The union also suggests democratic change and protected human rights
guaranteed for the union and farm workers (Chavez).
Persuasiveness of the Arguments
Document 8 is very persuasive and has expressed the problems, their root cause and has
suggested the possible solutions. The document has tackled the American history from politics to
economic aspects and has also addressed the present events. By analyzing the education system
and the young people in these systems, the document has also addressed the future of America
(Huron). Document 8’s arguments are not persuasive as it is based on historical issues without
much evidence or stating facts to justify the arguments. It suggests’ actions against the

constitution and othesr that may escalate the racial discrimination in the society (Newton). The
argument in document 9 is persuasive in that it highlights the problems faced by workers in
agribusiness. It has stated the facts regarding workers’ oppression and also offered a solution of
how these people may be helped without use of violence that would cause bloodshed (Chavez).
