HORRIFIC VIOLENCE FROM THE HATE YOU GIVE
A thesis of the novel The Hate You Give by Angie.
The Hate You Give is a text which shows the response of the horrific violence and deaths
in America. Those who were killed were the unarmed black people who were shot by the police
sparked by Black lives Matter Movement. The book opens with celebrations of the 20-aged
students where dances, music and drinking accompanied the ceremony. There is a lot of police
brutality where the killing of Khalil is not well defined. The police officers have been acting out
of tempers and were discriminating the black American. Human rights are violated in the society
beginning with the education. Starr is not given ample time to pursue her education. Khalil is
killed at a young age when he was in school.
Tensions in the party begin as the party takes its course. Groups of students started
leaving the ground unto their directions. A 16yr old Starr, the main character, with her friend
Khalil left the party ordinarily. On their way, the White police murdered Khalil and the only
witness there was Starr. Due to this humiliation of humanity, Starr finds herself confused on
whether to disclose the information or risk her life. Communicating this scenario, she will be
risking her life. There is a lot of dehumanisation in the society where the oppressed have none to
speak for them. Oppression has been a challenge to the students who had invaded the school to
advance their education. The teachers and students are uncomfortable for being associated with
the institution. This makes the right to education not achieved by those in school because there is
a lot of insecurity in the schools. The victims have no one to report to and therefore have to

suffer severely. The security sector should be reviewed in America, but due to discrimination of
the colour, ethnicity and racism it is a great challenge in dealing with the security.
The students spent their time celebrating the St. Patrick's Day but all in all discrimination
of their colour is costing them a lot. All the white American are armed whereas the black is
suffering a lot. The inequalities in the public sectors should be abolished for it will obstruct the
fair distribution of resources. When these black people are seen enduring in life positively
something, is looked upon to suppress them. In the community of mixed people, the variety of
ideas can be shared hence improve the economy in the setting. Most of the people they do take
such difference in people from different nationalities as fate. The killing of Khalil may have
buried a sound mind in changing the clear thinking of the people.
Trauma and fear were indulged to the neighbourhood students, for instance, Starr who
her heart was full of fear because she was at the scene of death, shot of Khalil. Starr hid the story
about the killing of her friend because of the security’s state. Disclosing this story would cost her
much; therefore she resists to tell the real story. Living in urban areas is something which makes
the black women and girls to be determined and as well create a lot of counter-narratives
amongst themselves. Starr is an excellent example of black women in which the young girls
should emulate. Therefore, this brings about the argument that when people of different localities
even concerning their colour, ethnic group and the racial difference should make sure that they
live in harmony and unity.
Violence due to race politics, social history and human suffering has been a significant
challenge to the immigrants. The brutal police officers were not differentiating the age unto to
which they were beating and shooting. Starr, the protagonist, has been an excellent example to
the other neighbourhood children as she was a witness when Khalil was alleged to death. Starr

family was alienated and set aside to Garden Heights. Violation of the individual human rights
was the great challenge unto the people. The black had no peace of mind all through. Oppression
is the routine of the white neighbours unto black America. The black people have no word to say
for the difficulties they were undergoing. The kind of survival in this area is so challenging and
as well unfavourable. The Starr’s parents were always there for their children. Most of the times
the people were living in fear due to the Khalil’s scenario in the scene of death.
This book is displaying what happens to most of the immigrants. Ethnicity, skin colour
and racism has been the course of the differences in most of the countries where there are mixed
people of different countries. Most of the immigrants are imprisoned mercilessly, and brutality
humiliated. For example, Maverick was detained after being alleged of knowing the cause of the
Khalil's death. If one is caught of breaking the law of the country and to happen that is not one of
the native settlers, he is punished severely. Killing is not a big deal to this people. The life of
those black American people living in the city is suffering a lot. There is a lot of lessons to be
learnt from this book about how the violence regarding human differences has been rampant in
America.
In conclusion, the horrific violence and brutal punishments have been a great challenge to
black American Immigrants. There should be a precise measure of dealing with the immigrants
to appreciate their stay in such new countries. Laws should be set for making a conducive remain
of those who will be visiting the country. Racism and prejudice should be dealt with seriously for
it has been a significant challenge to the immigrants. Hailey challenges the sexist behaviour.
Maya and Starr, they formed a minority alliance which assisted them in coping with the
betterment of living well in this racist society.
