Interpersonal communication is the process in which the individuals exchange their
feelings and information through face to face method through non-verbal and verbal
communication. Regardless of persons industry, interpersonal skills have some which are crucial
for the employees in their working place. For the working industry, interpersonal skills which
means workers are able to communicate effectively. The importance of interpersonal listening in
communication is that, creates positive working environment to the employees, employer and the
clients.
Listening is an act in which different senses are used to hear a sound and understand what
you hear. It is a skill in which lets you to hear sounds then it goes through your brain to give the
meaning of it. Hearing is a way of perceiving and receiving vibrations or waves of sound through
their ear. It is a skill which uses ear only (Adler, Ronald B. INTERPLAY: THE PROCESS OF
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION, 13th Ed. (Custom). 2015. Page 174). Difference
between hearing and listening include that hearing uses one sense which is ear while listening
uses many senses which include seeing, hearing or touch. Example of hearing is when a man
walks around the corridor and he hears some people arguing but he does not make an effort to
stop and listen what they said. Example of listening is when another man walks in the same
corridor and he stops to listen the argument between the two people.

Listening styles
The first style is task oriented. This that style which mostly concentration with job
accomplishment and efficiency. This style needs active person in production, critical and also

confident. In this style I find myself task oriented but some other times I get frustrated in
carrying something out of time. That’s the reason as to why my score is 15.
The second style is rational listening. This is the style which is all about the building the
closeness of others emotions. This also called empathic listening as individuals take it as a skill
of order to maintain relationships which are good verbally or non-verbally (Adler, Ronald B.
INTERPLAY: THE PROCESS OF INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION, 13th Ed.
(Custom). 2015. Page 208.). This t he best style as am able to score 40. This is because when am
talking I like to be listened and people to understand what I am saying.
The third style is analytical listening. This is where the listening contains messages which are
decomposed thus paying more attention to many details so as to examine the meaning of words
and their purpose.in this style I scored 35 because I like to know more about anything which I
give opinion on.
The last style is critical listening. It concerns analytical thinking more and uses skills of
critical reading. Its importance is to recognize problems and their solutions to those issues. In
this I scored 28 which I need to improve. I need to pay attention to nonverbal cues so as to
determine the accuracy of anything.
I am a relational listener followed by analytical which I use when interacting with
foreigners. This is because without that style I cannot understand anything and also I may
misunderstand their expressions and also their intentions. I need to improve on critical thinking
style and task oriented.

As for me I am a rational listener and analytical listener. This is because my attention is
needed most so as I can understand what is going on without misunderstanding any expressions
as they may differ from my local one. My poorest are critical and task oriented. To improve on
those, I have to carry an estimation on what is important in my life. Am planning to improve by
listening to English more in radio, television and also from the local individuals so as to get
required accent and the speed also. This will help in reducing the barrier of English language as I
have to listen to significant things which make sense and deal with so many different people so
as to find ways on which I can express the insecurities, nervousness and excitement which is an
ambiguous behavior in the communicative value. I also have to pay nonverbal cues which
convey accidentally and those which do not catch from the individuals.
In conclusion, listening it will be easy when we fall all the styles with more seriousness.
This is because they affect our lives in daily basis. Therefore they are the most essential areas
which we should improve concerning our listening.
