the hosting of such a large event and the way it can create different benefits and challenges for
the host nation.
Perspectives
Olympics- Olympic games are the most prestigious games that held normally after every
four years. It used to be organised in the stadium of Olympia, Greece in ancient times and from
there it got its name Olympics. Many participants of different countries compete with each other
in different games and the winner is given the gold medal followed by silver and bronze. XXXII
Olympic games was to be held in Tokyo, Japan but due to COVID-19 it is postponed till 2021, it
has postponed earlier also in the time of world war. The economic impact of organising the
Olympic games are explained in detain below- Job creation- Olympics are considered to be a game changer for a country as it has the
potential to create more than one hundred thousand jobs in the market (Benier, 2016). It
is a big event that happen once in four years and by seeing the size of the market as well
as the jobs that it can generate a country must try to host it. Its a once in a lifetime
opportunity as different countries host the event. It is said to be a booster for a country in
which employment is a serious problem and by hosting these games that nation can
reduce the problem of unemployment. Also it helps in developing infrastructure of the
host country because improved stadiums and facilities are required for such a big event
and thus recruitment of various personnels can be done which will directly contribute in
improving the GDP of a nation. Costs to the tax payer- As Olympics is a big event and thus the amount that have to be
spend on it is millions of dollars that includes renovating, developing, and maintaining
stadiums, accommodations, security, etc. The cost has to be recovered from ticket sales
and the sponsors if it does not recovered from these sources the burden shifts to the

citizens of that nation. The country imposes heavy tax rates on tax payers so that the cost
that is spent while organising the games must be recovered otherwise economy of that
country will suffer, so it imposes heavy measures which have a negative impact on the
society. It can affect the people of a nation hosting the games so most countries does not
show their interest in organising Olympics because of the debt that comes with it (Chen,
Qiao and Wang, 2016).
Future trade- Olympic games have a impact on a country's trade as it can drastically
change it in a very short period of time. As it a a big event that is seen by millions and
watched by billions it can act as a promoting event for a nation. It can attract a large
number of tourists which can result in increased trade of present as well as of the future.
These games can also be very beneficial for the local manufacturer and traders as it can
boost their sales level of the products and services that they deal in (Costache, 2017).
Organising Olympics has a impact on environment that can be explained as follows- Carbon footprint and pollution- Olympics generate a lot of pollution because it is
organised at a larger scale. Tonnes of waste is generated which pollute the rivers and
oceans, plastics, electricity, and fuel is used at a wide level which contributes to
increased level of carbon emission and thus harming the environment. A lot of things
have been done by the countries to reduce the carbon footprints but still it is not good
enough because the Olympics generate a huge amount of waste and by treating a small
portion it cannot be solved. An effective planning should be done before organising
Olympics about the alternative methods that could be used in the games so as to reduce
the carbon element and waste that it generates (Grundke and Tuchscherer, 2019).
Sustainability- Olympics is also beneficial as it leaves a long lasting effect on the
working of a country. As many improvements are done in a nation while hosting the
games such as using renewable sources of energy, reducing the dependency on natural
resources, etc. that are used afterwards also which makes the environment clean. Also
many campaigns are done during the period of games which helps in spreading
awareness among the citizens of the country as well as other people too because it is
watched all across the globe. Advanced and new version of technologies are used in the
Olympics so that waste would be minimised so that the available resources are fully

utilised. Also some countries uses innovative versions of technology that are supposed to
cut down waste drastically and help in improving the environment.
Olympics have a social impact too that are briefly explained below- Intangible benefits- Olympics have a lot of benefits that can not be seen but can be felt
and it is an important aspect of it. It increase the morale of the participants because of the
number of people that are watching the game. It gives a adrenaline rush to the performer
and it acts as tool of motivation that could help an individual perform with all his
capabilities and thus resulting in more intensity of the game which can be enjoy by the
viewers also. Viewers also feel a connection with the participant, also the energy and
enthusiasms that these games generate is immense. Also there is a drastic increase in the
number of people seeing the game because they provide a lot of entertainment as well as
a person can grab a lot of things from the professional players like team spirit,
motivation, orientation towards goals, etc. which can benefit an individual in his career
as well as in general too.(Hartenfels and Becker, 2016)
Regeneration opportunities- When an Olympic is hosted by a country it impact the nation as a
whole. It provides opportunities for development at a larger scale in a very short period of time
and that can last pretty long too. There is a need to identify the opportunity at the right time and
right place that could help in changing the economy and infrastructure of the country. It must do
proper research and development by forming a team of experts so that each and every
opportunity must be identified and grab at the right time which can prove beneficial for its
development. It can be very crucial for a developing country to become developed as the games
possess a lot of value, carry the potential that is needed and if used effectively and efficiently can
help a nation grow rapidly (King, Karoly and Henley, 2017).
Recommendations
From the above explanation the things that can be recommended for smooth and
uninterrupted organisation of Olympics are as follows-
It can be recommended that the country that will host the Olympics must do a detailed
planning after a rigorous research and development process. Though the games will
create a pool of employment opportunities and there are a lot of trade benefits that it
holds still the expenses that has to be done must be in a precise way so that it would not
4

create a burden on the citizens of the nation later on. The games must not compromise
with the people of a country by any means (Mancini, 2018).
It can be recommended that environmental factors must be considered before the
organisation of such a big event like Olympics. The government of the country hosting
the games must search for all the alternatives present so that the best could be chosen so
that the carbon emission, pollution, wastage, etc. would be minimised. The games must
be held in such a way that it should not pollute the water which is an essential part of
living.
It can also be recommended that the games hold a lot of benefits as a whole and a great
impact on the society too. Government of the hosting country must encourage its citizens
to participate in the games and cheer their favourite person, so that the intensity of the
games is maintained. As well as it could be helpful for the people also as it can help in
developing their character by seeing the professionals playing which can help in building
their career as well as personal life. It would also help a government to build a strong
infrastructure that can be beneficial for the society (Porter and Evans, 2020).
CONCLUSION
From the above it can be concluded that global events can be referred as the events which
are held for a short period of time but have a mass reach in which contribution from all is
expected and it also helps in building a sustainable society and environment. Its positive and
negative impacts are also discussed. Apart from that analysis have been done about the various
impact that Olympics possess. The impacts that are explained in detail above are economic,
environmental, and social which have both plus and minus points which have to be considered
while organising the Olympic games. After that recommendation have been given which is in
accordance with the impacts that are analysed above.
