Analysis of Still the One Song by Shania Twain
To begin with, Shania shows how she is happy with her husband. This is well portrayed
when she says that he is indeed the one ‘still the one'. Twain is satisfied with choosing him as his
partner for life. In her words ‘looks like we made’ shows that they have gone through hell but
still managed at the end of it all. It looks like they have encountered a lot of challenges to reach
where they are. The dynamics in this song are well arranged as portrayed by how Shania starts
the song in a low volume and continues to raise the voice as she goes on. It seems that there were
some people who were against their love but they are still together. This is a true indication of
true love and a powerful couple all together. In her statement, ‘still the one I kiss goodnight’,
Shania shows that their love is not growing old. It is not becoming tired1. This is a good
description of how a relationship should be. Strengthening each other despite all odds, loving
each other despite what other people may talk about. It is quite a layered dynamic. Still the one is
a sweet melodious song with voice weaves that are so captivating. The melody is laid down in a
very special and professional manner. Shania is very much aware of the things that can make
them fall apart2. She knows too well that no one wishes them well. In her statement,’ I am glad
we did not listen’ is a true indication that there will always be haters along the way in a given
relationship3. It shows that in one way or the other, they were advised to separate since some saw

as if the relationship would not survive. This shows how the outside world can influence or
doom a relationship when one is not careful or convinced of what he or she wants.4
In this song, there is some anger portrayed. When twain says, ‘they said, I bet they'll
never make it,' shows that when others doubt her relationship, it really hurts and sucks. It can be
confusing at the same time. Friends that only speak the worst are not to be trusted after all. They
should not be regarded even when one is making a decision. They are spoilers who do not want
to see someone succeeding in life. In other times it can be termed as jealous. They want to be at
the front line with no competitor. This is another point in this song. Shania brings out a very
unique rhythm in this song by how she starts the song by saying.” from the day that I met you I
found love and until then, you are still the one that I love”. It has a homophonic texture. The
song has a mid-range that is low allowing warmth in the vocals coming through. It has a very
homogenizing effect even when it comes to layering of the sound. This song has a roll and rock
sort of introduction. All these create a unique effect in the song making it to be outstanding.
Shania depicts how relationships are of importance especially when the feeling is mutual
between the two parties involved. Relationships give one life. They are a source of hope and
strength to carry one. When she says ‘ the one I belong to', Shania is trying to show that she has
no doubts that he is the one that she has chosen to be his life partner come rain or sunshine. This
shows commitment and resilience regardless of what naysayers may say. She is willing to fight
for her love since he is aware of the significance. Anger is not portrayed or hidden in many
songs. So this makes this song to be an exemption. Twain loses both of her parents in a car

accident. She steps in to cater to her siblings. This shows the importance of a family.5 There are
very many benefits that come along with a family. It gives one a sense of belonging. That's why
Shania values her relationship very much because her husband is her family.
Still, the one is a good song to listen to. It seems simple but when analyzed it brings out some
hidden aspects. It shows happiness, strength, and support that a relationship can bring.
