Introduction
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most widely remembered as well as popular painters
that the world had ever seen. He is known for creating over 2000 paintings in over a decade
of his works. His paintings mainly focused on the depictions of the landscapes, still life,
portraits as well as self-portraits. His portraits were not commercially successful and he died
at the age of 37 from mental illness as well as poverty. This research paper will deal in details
with the paintings of Dr. Gatchet that the author had drawn.

The Painting of Dr. Gatchet was based on the real-life person of Dr. Gatchet who took
care of Vincent van Gogh during the final months of his life. The painting was made with the
subject resting his head on a red table, his head in his hand. The subject sensitive face
provided the inspiration for van Gogh to write the heartbroken inspiration of our times. Van
Gohg painted the doctor’s pictures using bright colours to emphasize the features of his face

and the expressions of the body of the doctor (Kidambi: 64). The painting is considered to be
one of the best paintings of all times by the critics and art lovers alike.
The painting was sold by Van Gogh’s sister at the price of 300 francs. In the later
years, the painting was modified and made different from the earlier versions by different
artists as well as the museum in which the painting was put into a different room than the
original painting. This painting was later shown in various museums around the world where
it was appreciated by the art lovers as well as the critics of the paintings (van-Gogh Boner:
2018). This proves that the painting is not only important in the history of the art world but is
also popular for its significance among the people of the world.
