INTRODUCTION
` Management refers to a process of organising and planning the activities and resources of
a business in order to achieve organisational goals in effective manner (Schill, 2017). For this
report, selected company is Unilever which is based on UK.
The report cover different forms and functions of business along with different
management functions. It further describe marketing functions and how they manage a business
as well as talent management and organisational culture.
MAIN BODY
P1 Analysing management structure and business functions
Organisational structure refers to a system which direct certain activities in order to
achieve organisational goal in effective manner. Management refers to a process of planning,
directing, organising and controlling the different functions of the organisation as well as
applying management principles efficiently and effectively in order to achieve goals of the
business. Management theories refers to a collection of ideas which provide certain rules in order
to manage an organisation in effective manner. Different management theories are there which
help managers of Unilever in order to choose those theories which is suitable for their employees
and organisational culture. In context with Unilever, these management theories are described
below:
Scientific management theory was developed by Frederick Taylor and it is based on
scientific management. In this theory it make management to force employees to work hard in
order to make working area most productive and effective (Park and Ahn, 2021). In respect of
Unilever, this theory makes management to focus on achieving efficiency in working area by
finding an effective way in order to complete the task.
Human relation theory help management in order to motivate employees and make them
productive by fulfilling their needs in effective manner. In regard of Unilever, its management
uses this theory in order to make their employees more productive and motivated by fulfilling
their need in effective manner.
Different type of organisational structure that help organisation in order to make its
business function more effective and efficient. In case of Unilever, Hierarchical organisational
structure is used in which command goes from the top level that is CEO or manager to down

level that is employees or worker. It help them in order to define responsibility and authority in
better manner. It also provide speciality for each employees in effective manner. It can effect
negatively by slowing down innovation or important changes needed in organisation. It can also
demotivate some employees if they does not get chance in order to express their ideas for the
company.
P2 Analysing marketing functions
Marketing functions refers to a combination of task and responsibility for the marketing
team of the organisation in order to organize, design and execute an effective marketing strategy
or campaign for the company (Khan and Yu, 2019). An effective marketing strategy is
interlinked with other functions areas of the business in order to make organisation most
productive and effective. In accordance with Unilever, its relations with other functions of the
company are described.
Production function refers to a process in which capital, labour and material are put
together in order to manufacture or produce a products for the company. In production function
of Unilever, its marketing functions helps them by providing adequate research and development
in order to fulfil potential customer needs. It also help them to manufacture products to the
quality and designed which is specified by customer. Whereas production function help
marketing function by providing proper information about product and services of the business
in order to promote them in effective manner. It also help them in order to calculate return on
investment.
Finance department helps company by acquiring and managing funds in order to get
utilize in effective manner. In finance department of Unilever is interlinked with marketing
department in order to get know about adequate budget that is needed in promotion, research and
distribution of the organisation. Whereas finance department provide budget in order to promote
their offerings in effective manner (Katz, 2018). It also help them for managing costs and
budgets in order to make their promoting strategy easier in effective manner.
Human Resource department of a company helps them in order to recruit employees as
well as provide proper training to them. Human Resource management of Unilever need to work
with marketing department in order to get information about research for developing new
product ideas, meet production target and create an effective sales team for the organisation.
Whereas Human Resource management department help their marketing department by

recruiting effective employees that helps them in order to work effectively with other members.
It also help them by providing proper training and development in order to become effective for
promoting product and services in effective manner.
P3 Analysing management functions
Management function refers to a set of principles which relates with other functions of
the company such as organising, planning, controlling and directing in order to get effective
results from it. Henri Fayol give 5 functions of management that are planning, commanding,
organizing, controlling and controlling (Davies, 2018). According to Henry Fayol, these
functions are universal in nature and every manager should perform these functions daily in their
working environment. In context with Unilever, these functions helps its management in many
ways.
In planning function, manager should plan in order to perform future activities and
develop objectives which is to be achieved in future. In respect of Unilever, planning plays a
major role in the company in order to help them to identify their goals and also helps them to
make a plan for performing activities of the company in effective manner.
In organising function, manager should organise its employees in effective and efficient
structure and manner in order to help them for performing their work effectively. In regards of
Unilever, its role in the company is to find people for the specific job of the company. It is
responsible for making employees to perform task in effective manner.
In commanding function, manager should supervise their employees or subordinates in
their work as well as they also inspire as well as motivate them in to achieve goals of the
company. In case of Unilever, its role in the company is to guide, supervise and instruct
employees in effective manner so, they perform their work in effective manner.
In coordinating function, manager should harmonize each and every activity of the
company in order to make them effective in order to get perform (Andersen, 2019). In
accordance with Unilever, its role is to make harmonize environment in the company that help in
order to perform different activities of the company in effective manner,
In controlling function, managers should control the activities of the company and make
them work with company's policies and objectives. In account of Unilever, it is responsible in
order to get effective result according to set standards of the company.

Management function is interrelate with each other fort managing different companies of
the company in effective manner. Planning makes set objectives which makes organising
functions to organise all activities in this manner which helps them to get achieve it.
Coordinating function guide employees in order to perform their function in organise manner.
P4 analysing HR and talent management
Human Resources department is responsible for finding, selecting and hiring employees
for the company. Human resources play a vital role in company by supporting, making and
developing friendly environment in the working area of the company. It perform many function
in the company such as recruiting and selecting employees, providing training and development,
performance management, and maintaining payroll (Ahmad and Shariff, 2019). In context of
Unilever, its HR department perform various type of roles and responsibility in the company.
One of the most important responsibility of its is to set a recruiting procedure in which finding
and selecting a suitable candidate which is suitable for specific job. They are responsible for
maintaining payroll activities of the Unilever. They also arrange training and development
program for the new employees in order to make them effective for the Unilever.
Talent management refers to a HR process in order to attract, select, develop, motivate
and retain highly productive employees for the company. In respect of Unilever, it help company
in order to improve their business performance through training and practices that make
employees more effective and productive. This will make employees to perform effectively in
order to achieve organisational goals in effective manner.
Organisational culture refers to a collection of rules, practices and expectations that
inform and guide different actions of all team members. Different type of organisational culture
are there which help company for its smooth functioning. In regards of Unilever, if its
management use task culture they have to form a group or team in order to achieve targets or
solve critical problems in effective manner. If they use power culture they have to provide some
power only for few people's in order to take decision for the company.
Task organisational culture is strong because it is quite flexible and results adjusted by
performing task in team work. Power culture is weak because it provide powers only in few hand
which make other employees demotivated.

From the above mentioned report, it is concluded that management help companies in
order to manage different function of the company ins effective manner. Management functions
of the company uses Scientific management theory and Human relation theory in order to
manage their functions in effective manner. Management function is collection of different
function of the company such as planning, organising, controlling, commanding and
coordinating.
