Drama is the piece of art which is produced and shaped by the artists using the different elements
of the drama (Stafford, 2021). The different elements of drama are role, character, voice,
dramatic tension, space and time, situation, mood and atmosphere etc. The present report will
demonstrate the three elements of drama used in this video titled as “The Secret Garden (1/9)
Movie CLIP - There's Someone Crying (1993)”.
The three elements of Drama are:
Voice: It is tone expressed in the space and time to create the roles, atmosphere, symbols etc. It
is very powerful tool in the drama that has combination of characteristics such as pace, pitch,
pause, tone, volume, accent, intonation etc. (Golding, 2021). In context of the video of the secret
garden in starting of the video when the girl has the voice that emphasised on present tense.
When the girl enters the room her voice changes from present to past. While talking about her
aunt and looking at the stuff of her mother she has a reminisce in her voice. While touching her
mother’s picture she delivered the sad tone of voice. The tone of voice was depicted the girl as
the gentle and innocent child. The old lady voice in the video when she bumped into small girl
was shocking. Later her voice was strict, loud and aggressive.
Tension: It is element that demonstrates the sense of mystery, conflict, problem between the
characters and their relationships. In the whole video the music played was demonstrating the
situation of the tension or the problem with the small child. When the small girl bumped into the
old lady there was the conflict between them and also old lady was forcing her to stay in room
locked. This whole situation where the girl was telling the old lady that she heard someone
crying and lady resisted was demonstrating the tension element in the drama. The movements
between the old lady and the small girl in the video where clear depiction of the tension element.
Also when the video was beginning the girl was rushing fast towards the upstairs that was
representing the Tension element as the girl has heard the sound of crying.
Mood and Atmosphere: Mood in the drama is created with the support of lighting, sound,
rhythm, movement and more (Fahlenbrach, 2021). Basically mood and atmosphere is the feeling
of the physical space and actions together. In the video of The Secret Garden the mood and
atmosphere was dark. In the video with the darkness and ominous background music, flapping of
the bird’s wings all has developed the mood and atmosphere of the mystery and suspense. The
whole video was toned and full of dust and darkness is shown as symbol of mystery. The whole
video that has the atmosphere of suspense through verbal and nonverbal interaction. Also

through the atmosphere the audience was able to connect and engaged also it was demonstrated
easily through performance that the girl was missing her mother.
