Sport Analytics Course Project Proposal: Fantasy Football Analysis

This project proposal outlines a plan to create a fantasy football draft system and analyze its results using statistical methods. The project aims to answer key questions regarding player blending, the effectiveness of planning, and the identification of the best players. Data from fantasy football leagues will be analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and linear regression. The proposal will use data from the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins, focusing on player rankings, team data, goals scored, and player positions. The goal is to determine the best players based on points and tries and to identify how to combine players effectively for optimal team performance in the NFL. References include various research papers on statistical methods and data analysis.

PROJECT PROPOSAL.
The following title was chosen for my project proposal; create a system of how to draft
players in a fantasy football league and analyze the results from previous years. The
topic was chosen because of the experience in football that had been acquired over the
years. In this project proposal, the overall aim was to answer the following questions:

i) How can different players be blended to achieve results?
ii) Does the planning made lead to the achievement of the team’s goals?
iii) Which of the players are the best?
iv) Which players play perfectly when put on together in the field?
The data collected from the fantasy league made will be evaluated using different statistical
methods. The models will be mean, standard deviation, and linear regression analysis.
All the ways possess advantages that make them unique and suitable for these
purposes, but they have similarities (C Massmann and R Woods (2018). The
similarity between the techniques is that both methods are easy to apply and very
simple to interpret; therefore users don’t have to undergo a lot of stress trying to
figure out how they can be used. The data to be used in the project proposal will have
five columns that will be the rank of the various players through the season, the
different team players, goals scored by each player over the season and finally the
position played by each player (D Comaniciu and P Meer 2012).
In the fantasy football league, four questions were to be answered appropriately. The
schedule and team players provided for both Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington

Redskins will be used to answer these questions (RT Collins, 2013). To achieve
excellent results in the NFL clubs let’s say in Philadelphia Eagles all the top players
ranked according to points have to be chosen. In determining the best players in the
club, an individual can look at the points, and the tries made (HW Lilliefors, 2017).
Example from Washington Redskins Brantley Caleb has 99 tries that make him one of
the best. If you check the information provided in the excel file the players with the
top points and tries can be ideally put together to perform well (MH Pesaran, Y Shin
and RP Smith, 2019).
