Since World War II, the world has become more fragmented than any other time.
However, in the political divisions and the business operations, there is a much great progression
and improvement. Christopher and Sumantra have come up with the model that is aimed towards
showing the balance in management structure for the local and the global demands. These
demands have been placed in the companies that are operating throughout the world. The two
authors say that within the volatile world for the transnational corporations, the idea of
“universal” does not exist. However, there is an existence of business managers, the functional
managers and the country managers. The specialists also help in identifying plus developing
talented executives for the successful transnational that is required. On top of that, there is an
existence of executives in corporate headquarters. These executives help in the management of
complex interactions that exist between the 3 specialists that have been named above. This
organizational structure has transnational characteristics rather than the multinational and the
international company.
Transnationals help in the integration of assets plus diversify people within the operating
units all over the world. The transnationals also help in integration of the resources. Flexible
management process helps to balance businesses within the nations (Harvard Business School,
1992). Through the flexible management routine, whereby businesses and the functional
managers create triad for different perspectives which balance each other. Transnational
companies help in the formation of three capabilities that are very strategic namely; global scale
efficiency plus competitiveness, cross marketing capacity for leveraging the learning within the
world and national level for responsiveness plus flexibility. Lastly, the authors have helped to
express the skills which every managerial specialists needs (Bartlett, Ghoshal 1 Sep.1992).
