Holocaust, genocide and Nazi are some of the most heard name term in past history and
impacted today's generation as well. Mass killing of people were taking place in world war as
Nazis where taking control over Germany and destroying every thing which comes in front of
them. Red Army advanced Germany have not only killed Jews, but they started killing Sinai and
Roma as well, destruction was not scalable, millions of people have died and horror of war was
still continued (Brenner, 2021). This book highlight role of Raphael Lemkin during times of war,
this young Jews lawyer from Poland had escaped holocaust but his family was killed. Lemkin
continued to study about Nazi and holocaust and highlighted how human slaughtering was
common in the era of Hitler, jumping from holocaust to genocide, this was against humanity and
need to be stopped before whole world is wiped out.
After mass killing of people, it was very clear that this need to be stopped by signing
convention between state. Immediately after Nuremberg trail, United Nation General Assembly
took place to craft convention to completely stop genocide. Although general assembly was not
law making body which was not effective to criminals of war, this convention was terminated by
these criminal. Creating law against holocaust was necessary to stop mass killing of people by
Nazi, world war was slowing coming down and convention was getting stronger. The drafter of
convention were knew that holocaust and genocide was danger for humanity and leaders who
tend to use international law for mass killing of people.
Academic contribution:
The book; “the Holocaust to the Genocide Convention” highlighted some major event of
past that humanity is still ashamed of, holocaust was one of the most disturbing and remember
able event in human history. Criminal of war impacting mankind and marking some of the worst
event, turning holocaust into genocide convention (Brenner, 2017). Nazi who were ready for
aggressive war not ready to settle their mass killing of people, during world war leaders who
leading army knew that killing will be done and slugthering will be continued in human was
history. Today's generation will never know how painful was era of Nazi, death and killing was
common word that completely destroyed humanity at certain event. Understanding this book
allow student explore deeper knowledge of stopping a war and their responsibility, this book is

been drafted by Raphael Lemkin who survived holocaust and crafted convention to completely
stop mass killing of people. This book will impact academic session in certain ways;
History and impact: when looking at world war, mass killing was common, leaders of
war continue to attack public to show their power. Ethics and humanity was badly impact, this
book allows student to understand why wars are some of the most disgusting thing that impact
years of human history. Slaughtering of human still have impact on today's world.
Wide pool of knowledge: this book unlocks certain importance aspect where student can
understand how social, cultural and political interference matter in conducting of war and
stopping of war (LaCapra, 2016). At some point mass killing have impacted humanity forever,
student who analyse importance of crafting convention will understand how Lemkin played an
important role and what was process of taking convention to United Nation General Assembly.
This book will impact academic session and will allow student to explore two criticism of the
Genocide Convention, these are:
Lack of prevention and punishment: Genocide convention is been considered as non-
effective because there was lack of prevention and punishment, this will impact student
knowledge and will allow them to understand how justice play vital role in war. This book will
allow leaner to understand importance of genocide convention in stopping of holocaust. Lack of
war punishment allowed war criminal to impact humanity, due to less effective UN power,
convention drafted by Lemkin was ineffective which show case how UN is important in
international matter, this book help in understanding role of UN in managing war and war crime.
After years of struggle, holocaust was reduced and convention of genocide is been implemented,
Role of politics, social and culture: political play vital role in leading a war, in the case of
holocaust, politics become safe place to commit war crime. Leaders of wars were using powers
to destroy humanity, this book will demonstrate importance of politics and its powerful influence
in leading or stopping war crimes. This book will allow reader to explore importance of social
and culture in managing war and will allow them to understand who genocide convention was
slowly impacted to stop holocaust and prevent harm to humanity. Convention was effective after
years of struggle and UN finally made convention for genocide effective in the process.
