INTRODUCTION
Hospitality industry is one of the most important industry for every economy. This
industry actively contribute in the betterment of the economy, and maintain a level of foreign
relationship. Hospitality is a wide sector which include hotels, tourism, travel, leisure,
accommodation and restaurant (Hassanien and Dale, 2019). This mainly aim to provide comfort,
accommodation and entertainment to people and help them to spend their time well within week
or holiday. This study is based on Linthwaite House, this hotel is one of the most famous and
accommodated among tourist who want quite and polished natural environment and visit to relax
(Linthwaite House, 2021). In this report we will discuss hospitality industry. Later we will
discuss current structure, scope and size of hospitality industry. Later we will discuss anticipated
skills which is necessary in hospitality industry. Later we will discuss internal and external
factors that effect the smooth flow of this industry. At last, we will analyse and discuss potential
trend affecting the hospitality industry.
MAIN BODY
Different type of business organization in hospitality industry:
Hospitality industry is one of the largest industry which include various businesses all
together, there are various type of business in the hospitality industry such as:
Hotel business: hotel business is key business of hospitality industry, hotel means a place to stay
where a visitor finds luxury accommodation. Hotel business offer diverse service to the visitor
which include accommodation, entertainment and food and beverage (Ionel, 2016). Hotel
business actively contribute in the betterment of hospitality industry which later contribute in the
betterment of the economy, many country mainly depend upon hospitality industry and mainly
on hotel to improve the economy. The Linthwaite House is one of the most beautiful hotel in the
country which provide super luxury accommodation to the people and offer diverse service to the
visitor. This hotel offer super luxury accommodation and quite and polish environment to keep
tourist relax in the natural beauty where this hotel is been located.
Restaurant business: restaurant business is one the largest business in the world, this industry
alone actively contribute in the betterment of the economy. Restaurant means serving food and
beverage to the guest, this business mainly provide food and beverage rather than

accommodation. Restaurant offer diverse product and service to the guest which include tangible
and intangible product. In product, tangible product include food and beverage whereas
intangible is the experience which a guest get in the restaurant. The Linthwaite House offer fine
dinning super luxury service to the guest and their food products have unique taste which make
their product diverse from the other restaurant.
Travel and tourism: travel and tourism have major part in the hospitality industry, travel and
tourism means transportation of people and their products. Although travel is not just
transportation but it is a package offered to the guest to travel around the world, transportation
offer super luxury experience to the guest with a meal to offer in the service. Travel mainly fall
under flight and transportation, many business class flight provide service to the guest and help
them to get better experience (Roblek, Stok and Mesko, 2016). Whereas tourism falls under the
tour of the city or any historical places, tourism focus on attracting guest to other hospitality
business such as hotels and restaurant. All the businesses of hospitality industry is connected
with each other and help each other to grow, this is a complete cycle which start from tourism to
accommodation and then travel flight back to home.
Contribution of hospitality industry in the betterment of local, national and international
economies:
Hospitality industry is quite wide and cover every small and large business organization
together, this industry actively contribute in the betterment of the economy. Many country who
have great destination and one of the 7 wonders of the world mainly depend upon hospitality
industry, they try to promote hospitality business within the local and national economy (Breier,
et.al., 2021). In hospitality industry, hotel play a vital role and contribute greatly. Many hotels
generate huge revenue and create various job opportunity for local people, when a hotel operate
within the local area it is observed that lifestyle and the standard of living of people tend to get
improved.
Statistic of contribution of hospitality in the UK economy:
Alone in 2019, this sector contributed 59.3 billion euro in the betterment of the economy,
gross value was around 3.0%. According to the national statistic, 2.38 million jobs were been
created by hospitality alone in 2020 which heavily represented 6.9% of contribution of the
industry in the economy. In January 2020 before COVID-19, there were large number of
hospitality business who are been running smoothly and participating in the economy. Around 3-

5% of business were dropped after the impact of COVID-19 (Hospitality industry and COVID-
19, 2021). Hence, local hotel businesses were effected the pandemic and many large scale hotel
business find hard to survive for example the Linthwaite House contribute in betterment of local
economy and generate job for the local people, this hotel complete corporate social responsibility
which include generating jobs for local people, building essential building, providing essential
things to the local people and making the lifestyle of people better.
International contribution:
Hospitality industry not only contribute in the local and national economy but this also
help in the betterment of global economy as well. Global economy great influence with the
hospitality industry because every country have their own unique destination or 7 wonders which
pull visitor towards them. Every contribution whether it is local or national effect the overall
global economy, most of the countries take great initiative to improve this sector (Ozili and
Arun, 2020). Many countries like UK have some of the unique and attractive destination or some
wonderful past historical places which pull half of the guest of hospitality towards them. Many
global event effect the hospitality industry such as world cup and Olympic, they attract wide
range of visitor towards them. At last hospitality industry greatly contribute in the local, national
and global economy. This industry was economy king and will going to remain economy king as
per its uniqueness, hospitality industry is one of the best industry.
Range of different operational roles in the hospitality industry
Hospitality operation involves the resource implementation, involves the technologies
and other requirements, all work is carried out in a careful manner to avoid any kind of mistakes.
The major operational roles are carried out by the operational department which involves the
housekeeping, food and the beverages department or other operational department in which
everyone is playing their effective role to accomplish the goals (Sun and Lee, 2018). In the
hospitality industry the following people plays an important role which are as follows:
Staffs:
Staffs are the main key player who plays an important role in carrying out the task effortlessly,
whole success process is depended on them, therefore it is important for the Linthwaite House
hotel to recruit the employee who possess all the knowledge and skills to carry out the task. For

the staffing organization set a recruitment panel who hires the appropriate talent to fill their job
post. It is better for the organization to give the role of leader to a responsible person, so they
will motivate them. It is good when employee work together as a team which improves the work
place environment, also beneficial to carrying out the operational work effectively for achieving
the objectives and goals (Yam, Raybould and Gordon, 2018). In which the employee handles the
various job titles within the hospitality industry which are receptionist post, front office
management, kitchen leader or the marketing department etc.
Operational manager:
Managers are responsible to manage all the work, they ensure that all the processes are going
effectively or seamlessly. They oversee the activities of the organizational businesses. It involves
the overall business functions which are human resource as they hire the fresh talent and
provides them a training to understand the work place environment or other departments are
housekeeping, security and the finance etc. for the Linthwaite house organization their hotel
manager need to deal effectively with the operational work so that they will be able to achieve
their desired objectives and goals. As hotel manager have the assistant which helps to manage
the work place environment. Operational manager needs to posses a good knowledge and skills
which will help them to hire a candidate or to effectively assign the roles to the staff so that there
will be no delay in delivering of work.
Supervisor:
Supervisor fulfil the needs of the hotel, they carry out the work to get instructions from the
general manager. They supervise all the departments of the hotel industry, as well as supervise
the hotel employees and front desk processes. They assist the general manager in managing the
whole place work (Secchi, Roth and Verma, 2019).
Front office management:
Front office is the place where the guest can get the first and the last experience of the hotel,
therefore for this job post Linthwaite house organization need to hire a person who have all skills
to manage the front office work, as it is important for the front office manager to create a
pleasant impression on the guest or to provide them better services so that they will visit the
hotel again.
As for the hospitality industry to carry out the operational work it is important that every
employee have good work ethics and skills. For the staffs it is essential that they know how to

operate work in hospitality industry. For an example for kitchen staff if they do not know possess
the kitchen knowledge then they will not be able to prevent the food from contamination.
Operational manager if they do not possess good leadership skills then they are not able to lead
the team which will affect the efficiency of the organization. As well as if front desk manager do
not have communication skills then it will be difficult for the hotel to attract the customers.
Skills required for the hospitality industry
Skills are very important in order to grow as it helps to complete any task without any
complexity. For the hospitality industry the skills are divided into the categories which are soft
skills and hard skills.
Soft skills:
It is the skills which is used to encourage the team or to manage the work place relationship. It
involves to interact with the prospective clients, co-workers.
Forming connection:
For the Linthwaite house hotel it is important to form the positive connection in order to reach to
the success.
Multitasking:
It is important for the hospitality staff to possess the relevant skills which helps them to ace in
multitasking, as it is possible that in some circumstances employees might have to work on
different project within hotel (Majid and et.al 2019).
Planning and organizing:
Planning involves the great thinking to design the task to be done, organization organize the task
in appropriate manner so that the good outcomes can come out.
Hard skills:
Hard skills are the concrete abilities, it is important as it increases the productivity of employee.
Therefore, for the Linthwaite house organization it is essential for their employers to have the
skills which help them to negotiate with the suppliers, to deal with the contractors and to ensure
that all laws are effectively followed.
Current skills' shortage:
It is seen that hospitality industry is facing the problem in their hiring as they required the semi
skilled workers. But for the youngster it is not their ideal job which satisfy their needs. As hotels

offers low wages, or enable them to work as anti social hours which is no fair for the candidates.
Many youngster do not select their profession in this line as their expectations do not meet with
the hotel's policy. Therefore hotel industry is facing skill shortage problem in broadly manner
(Kandampully, Zhang and Jaakkola, 2018).
Skills gap impact cause delay in delivering the service on time, as well as it affect the
productivity of the organisation.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it is concluded that for the hospitality industry skilled full workers
plays an important role. This report describes about the different business type in hospitality
along with their contribution in local and national economy. It further describe the range of
operational and the functional unit. Or the different roles in the industry. It lastly concluded with
the skills which are required for the hospitality industry and the current skills shortage.
